I know money is tight at present , but when u are 3rd could be 2nd in the league , still a chance in the FA cup and still in Europe and u only have one fit attacking midfielder, it’s a no Brainer , if u finish high up in all of the above it will have paid for the out lay . I just think we don’t want to part with the cash , but want to be seen as doing something. If YOURI get injured we could miss all of the above and that will cost the club a lot more .

January never has been a buyer's market. Players fit for a top 4 team are few and far between. Players that are fit for a top 4 team who are also available are even rarer. Add in the value for money element and you're left with basically nobody.

What would people prefer? We buy any old chump and end up with another Ghezzal on our hands?

If our targets aren't attainable right now there really isn't any point in bringing anyone in.

If we panic buy we potentially have a millstone around our neck eating into our wage bill for years to come who isn't good enough and doesn't fit in with the team dynamic.

I trust our current scouting network and recruitment model. The right players will be brought in if they can.

If not, well the current squad has got us this far so let's give them a chance to see the season through.

Even Wolves got a  Brazilian striker on loan William Jose, had 2 decent shots on target yesterday and if it wasn't for Palace's goalkeeper he would have scored. That's the type of old school solid Edison Cavani type striker  we need.

It would be great if we could get someone in but only if they're the right player to improve our squad.

Wolves are not really a good example of how it should be done. They have brought in the likes of Cutrone, Fabio and now Jose but they have declined over the past two seasons.

Will have helped them massively in getting that other striker in that Jimenez is likely to miss the vast majority of the rest of the season

Any striker who comes here is likely to get no more than probably 5 starts, and a couple of appearances off the bench

We were never going to make many signings.  We have loads of good players.  We might still see a signing ( or even two) before the window closes.

Please can someone start a thread about set pieces and the fact we need to a striker in this window. These 2 topics have not been talked about anywhere near enough for my liking

It’s simple... there is not much money around .....a January  purchase is unlikely to be good value for money.

We have to accept our lot and hope things come good and we can hold on for a EL spot or better.

...fortunately others are dropping points too, its not a normal season.

Yep, Costa would be my hope as I said in the transfer thread but as there’s usually no smoke without fire, I’d guess it’s unlikely.

Stringer has just tweeted that BR confirmed he’s confident we’ll get an attacker in. Hopefully it’s not someone like Cantwell...wouldn’t give us anything different to what we already have.

We desperately need a midfielder and striker. If we dont get one in we have no hope of the top 4. Club need to show some ambition here. Net spend of minus 7 million this year.( according to google)  Must be some money knocking about
