Absolutely agree with that. I know football is a business but the fact that an owner cares and carries a personal interest means a great deal.

I don't know if Stringer is still on here but he completed 5 marathons in 5 days for the Bodie Hodges Foundation - phenomenal effort for a great cause . 

 

Now this story to match with it 

 

 

When we arrived in Bangkok for leg 1 of The Global Marathon Challenge the Leicester City and King Power Chairman Khun Top asked to meet us and see us off for the first of 5 marathons in 5 days in 5 global cities. 

We met with him 30 minutes before we started running and he asked about The Bodie Hodges Foundation, who it helps and how they help. He was genuinely interested and offered his heartfelt sympathies for the loss of 10 month old Bodie. He cared and cares. 

Khun Top asked about the challenge, told us we were mad (quite right), then enquired as to how much we wanted to raise. We replied “£55,555 to represent the 5 marathons in 5 cities” he called one of his colleagues over and had a brief chat, he returned to us, in the shadow of his late fathers’ statue in the head quarters of King Power he said quietly and with grace “I will make sure you get to £55,555, I want you to concentrate on the running and complete the challenge, don’t worry about the fund raising” as a group we were emotional yet delighted at this news. 

We were on £14,000 of fundraising at that stage and ended up on £26,000 after leg 5, so, we were hoping for a kind donation of £29,000 from Khun Top to get us to £55,555. 

He just put a massive donation of £41,000 in because we were on £14,000 at the time and he said he’d make it up from where it was when he pledged it so the additional money we raised is on top goes into the pot too. 

Meaning as a group we’ve raised £72,000 running this challenge. This will be split across The Bodie Hodges Foundation and the VS Foundation. 

We are so very thankful to Khun Top, his incredibly
kind staff and all at King Power for helping us with this. From enormous aid stations on the run, the quickest and smoothest ride to and from the airport to plates of food at 4am into our room to refuel whilst in an ice bath recovering. We were treated as kings and cared for as family. We will never forget the generosity we received but to now get such a kind donation; we’re blown away.

The wealthy and privelidged are often scorned in our society and many deserve it probably. The amount of good these individuals can do for the struggling majority by sharing just a fraction of their wealth and fortune is priceless but if doesn’t always happen. 
 

Our owners continue to demonstrate they are Mike’s better than the vast majority of club owners not just in England but all of Europe. They’ve done so much already they have nothing to prove. Who cares if they aren’t as rich as the Arabs or glazers.

Its what they do with their money that counts! Leicester city has adopted Top and his family as one of our own and they have adopted us all as their family. It’s beyond just business. With Vichai’s legacy forever rooted into our very soil I see this relationship last forever.

I've said it for ages now and will keep reiterating; if other Clubs had owners like ours football would not be in the state it's in.

First time I saw him up close was driving up the motorway in my Leicester shirt when a big black car overtook us and him and his dad were sat in the back of the car and he waved at us. It's an amazing gesture that will bring tears to many eyes this morning. We are very lucky.

No person or people with that level of wealth are 100% squeaky clean in their actions or the company they keep.

 

But putting that cynicism aside, what Top and his family have done both for the club and for the city and its people is phenomenal and far beyond what most others of their means would do.

 

As others have said, they are a rare breed, as fans of this club we are fortunate, and they do deserve our utmost gratitude and backing.
