We have no pace and no threat accordingly. Morgan started the season saying we were going to play with no fear and take the game to every one, but has realised you can't do that with the level of players we have.  So he has gone far more defensive, but we have no get out ball, so usually the ball keeps coming back, and there is no attacking threat. I have to say though, Brighton actually look beatable if we were a bit more adventurous. At least we have Flint on now. I was amazed she didn't start, for me she is always our most dangerous player.

The break out passes are terrible misdirected or way too long.

No back up there for Flint.

Too defensive and not enough quality. Tash flint looks the only decent player in the team.

MORGAN OUT!

and she doesn't start and since she came on isn't in the box for corners, she's the bloody striker and one of the taller players

They deserved something from that but the team set up and technical ability of most is so bad I can’t see them winning a game all season.

A centre back playing centre midfield, a right back / left back playing on the wing, 1 striker on the pitch who’s just running around pressing deeper than half the midfield all whilst the only player who looks like scoring is on the bench lol.

If they are playing 5 at the back, Flint & Sigsworth need to be upfront as a 2

Never a free kick for me, but you just knew what was coming as soon as they were lining it up.  How Tash Flint doesnt get into our starting eleven is a mystery.

Morgan has to try and start winning games against the weaker teams, instead of trying to Eek out a draw, Brighton were not much better than us, and were there for the taking, if we had been more on the front foot.

I think Brighton today actually showed how poor the standard is in the WSL, apart from the obvious teams.

Kirstie Levell & the 3 centre backs of Brougham, McManus & Plumptre are more than good enough and a solid foundation to build from but if we are keeping with wing backs, they drastically need to improve, especially going forwards. As said above, 5 at the back should mean we get Flint & Sigsworth into the team.

I didnt realise Brighton were so high up the table, Wow the WSL must be of a poor standard!

It's an odd season.  Based on the squads, Man City should be top 3 with Arsenal and Chelsea but a ridiculous number of injuries have messed up their season.  Man Utd should be fourth and Everton should be 5th but the latter are woefully underperforming though they have played all the other aforementioned four already.  Signing the vastly over-rated Toni Duggan hasn't helped either.

Reading and Brighton are the opposite way round to what I would have expected.  Villa are over achieving but Carla Ward is an excellent coach.  Spurs and West Ham were always likely to improve as they seem to be taking it seriously.

That only leaves Birmingham (who have basically given up on their women's team having been decent for a few years until last season) and Leicester to battle for relegation.  Leicester haven't recruited well, though as others have noted in this thread there aren't that many players available.  Personally I would have kept Remi Allen and tried to recruit Rachel Williams from Spurs (she's a Leicester girl and had been consistently good at Doncaster, Birmingham, Notts County and Chelsea and, at 33, would bring necessary experience).  As it is, relegation beckons but some decent business in the next window could yet avoid it - if the club are bothered.

And getting Jenny Sugarman from WBA to replace Jonathan Morgan would help too (ok, this last point is entirely biased as I know her, but I've seen at first hand how well she can build a club).  I've also heard a few negative stories about Morgan, though as they were from a couple of former (and possibly disgruntled) City players I've taken them with a bit of a pinch of salt.

I think the standard of outfield play has improved immensely in the women’s game. The goalkeeping seems to be an Achilles Heel to a degree. Kirstie Levell did a fantastic job for us last year but more than most I’ve seen she looks a little exposed at this level.

Any shot hit high and on target just looks more than likely to result in a goal than a save.

We looked much better today but you knew what they were lining up with that free kick.

Flint and Sigsworth doesn't work as a pair, they get in each others way, Devlin was the star creator last season she has yet to start a game even when fit.

We made too many changes in the off season and threw away our identity from last season with the players coming in. In some ways it was like an evolving transfer door with WSL offcasts that we were purchasing.

Morgan did a fantastic job last season, but he was the wrong manager IMO to take the team forward in these circumstances.

...you may be right regarding Morgan's position and suitability!!!

When we offloaded all those players and brought in their replacements just how much did the club know about the quality they were bringing  in. It is hard to judge as the league is not a known quantity, and therefore we, or it seems the club were not aware of their suitability to compete in the WSL.

Didn't think it was a free kick but Levell shouldn't be getting beaten by a slow, loopy effort like that.

.. she is a very suspect keeper..!!!

Anything in the air she struggles with, poor with the ball at her feet. Brougham is an option but not much better.

...Flint and Sigsworth do not work as a front 2...!!!

No point playing with a back three, the wingbacks have no pace and lack the fitness required for the role.

Simplify the game, play with a back four, two wingers and two upfront. We can't afford a high line we lack the pace with the ball over the top.

So far have been disappointed with Plumptre who I believed was a quality player, someone who could marshal the defence.

You mention Flint and Sigsworth cant play together but then also say we need to play two upfront, who would you play? I'm interested to see what Connie Scofield & Abbi Grant could bring to the party but getting them fit seems to be a problem.

For me, its got the point where they aren't good enough to sit in and grind out the draws / clean sheets Morgan seems to be playing for, so we might aswell at least have players on the pitch who look half capable of scoring.

They need Barker back in the midfield ASAP, she's the only one who can retain the ball. Tierney has done a job & gets stuck in but doesn't have the mobility to be a central midfielder IMO.

Levell

Howard

Brougham

McManus

Plumptre

Purfield

Pike

Barker

O'Brien

Flint

Sigsworth

You could argue Devlin for O'Brien but I thought O'Brien looked good against Aston Villa in the role behind the strikers.

....it is difficult to sit and look to break on teams as we lack any pace in the team!!!

We do need to progress the ball through the middle of the park and Barker would be the one to do this. Pike has had a lot of good reviews but I see her as one of our problem, stands around a lot and weak for someone looking to compete in the middle of the park. We just can't keep the ball long enough for us to build any pattern with our play and apart from Tierney (who continually puts in cheap shots) there is no one robust enough defensively.

Lachante Paul might be a an option to play upfront, has a bit of pace and could run the channels and come in centrally as opposed to being a passenger in a wide option. Some players do come to life when they can get involved in the game and are more proactive due to this.
