I still remember when people said the same about George Taft because he was massive and a beast for his age. That one didn’t quite work out lol let’s hope for better for Ben.

Nelson is waaaay better than taft.

Taft was just noisy so people liked him. Also don't think he won academy player of the year. Could be wrong though.

We’ve come a long way as a club since then, with more focus on your technical ability, which is what Nelson will have. George Taft is an old style CB, a world away now.

Complete nonsense mate. He’s a solid bloke and been a great coach over the years. I’ve worked closely with top academy coaches and the thoughts on here are not echoed within the game 👍

I reckon Foxy lady’s son got released by Beaglehole from the club when he was 8 years old and she’s just held a vendetta ever since lol

Believe what you want to believe....but ive never met anyone yet with a good word to say about the bloke....and that includes respected coaches and senior players at LCFC.

(Ps  i dont have a son....but i doubt he would have been released at 8 years old by Beaglehole if i did as i dont think they sign players at the academy until they're 9....but i guess that answers the question about what you know!)

Not that I know a lot but having spoken with plenty who have been involved in our academy and others, he has not got a good reputation rightly or wrongly. Certain people stick up for him which is fair enough but there's certainly no smoke without fire here. Looking forward to a new era, it's long overdue. If Beaglehole is as good as some have said he should have no trouble getting another PL or Championship academy gig...... we shall see.

Cant see him going anywhere! Will just be given a different role within the academy. Side-lined, not removed.

How does it work in academies, are the coaches not on contracts like 1st team staff? Or are they more like standard employees where there's no end date to the contract and therefore its harder to get rid of them? I mean you can't make Beaglehole redundant as an U23 manager is still needed, but surely he's on a contract or that the club can just say thanks Steve here x of your remaining contract, off you go to Racing Club Warwick.

Standard employee contracts with no fixed end date as far as i am aware for most of the academy staff.....hence the reason why its quite difficult to make people redundant or get rid of them if they are not wanted..

I don't see why, it's no different with the 1st team. Its not as if the only way to get rid of 1st team staff is to not extend their contracts. They get sacked and paid an amount, or is that the problem - not having a parameter to pay them up.

...I would think the contracts are different, as Rodgers assistants would be signed for a period or with a caveat and the other non playing staff are very much like civil servants!!!

You would need good reason for misconduct for the non playing staff (Civil Servants) in order to dismiss them, and a short term contract for the first team support to the manager.

Back in day they often moved people into a new role as part of restructuring and then a few months later decided it wasn’t working and they didn’t need the new role, cue redundancy.

I saw a few people lose out like that I guess the only consolation was they took into account their total time in the business.

It can't be that hard, otherwise academies would seldom ever change staff through their own choice which clearly isn't the case.

Maswanhise, what do we reckon? I think he looks very promising… maybe keep him around the first team first half of this season?

I think we should get him out on loan if we can, Championship might be a bit too much at this point but I think he could certainly do well in League One

Any team that does well on set pieces will have a field day with how many free kicks he can pick up

Ideally someone like lincoln city could suit him best? Under appleton who might be aware of him + have a good record of loaning players and developing them.

Replacing Brennan Johnson is a good shout! That said we might want to keep him around, all depends how quickly Barnes is fit but we still don't really have a replacement for him so like Thomas last season they are needed here.

Not sure if you've noticed but....we haven't changed any of our Academy staff for years unless they leave of their own accord which is the issue we keep discussing on this forum.

Only one who is no longer there from Championship days is Peake who retired.

Yes I get that but other clubs manage to do it, if we are choosing to let these employees work at our academy until they no longer want to then I think that says it all doesn't it, it's no surprise what's happened.

....I would suspect although this is a business, Top would rather this was seen as a family, as opposed to a commercial enterprise than had no soul, just profit at its heart!!!

That would be a conundrum that we will find hard to solve, and the possibility of bringing in better staff with new ideas, to bring up the level of success in our academy, could be a start.

If other academies have found a way to do this, then we need to take a look at what they have done, it might work for us, or it might go against the grain of, what the club is intending to foster.

I would guess that business will always come first even for KP, Of course within that a family criteria is important but with out business success there will be fewer jobs anyway.

They sacked the man who won us the Premier League a mere 9 months later (rightly). They'll do whatever is needed but they won't do it nastily. Our academy is still Rudkin's in everything but name, that's why things haven't changed but that's obviously been under the spotlight now for quite some time and somethings being done.

Thought they signed lads at the end of their under 8 season so May time

But the age group goes through to August 31st so not all the players will be 9 when they sign

Guess that answers the question about what you know
