Bate is one of the most highly-rated midfielders in the country, coming close to making his debut for the senior side when he was named on the bench against Sheffield United and Bayern Munich last year.

Five clubs have expressed an interest: West Ham United, Leeds United, Liverpool, Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion. However, West Ham and Leeds are the clubs pushing the hardest and both are believed to have made Chelsea an offer.

Leicester City step up youth recruitment ahead of potential Champions League return

Leicester City are improving their youth recruitment this summer as the first team edges nearer to Champions League qualification.

The Foxes have missed out on the Champions League on the final day of the last two seasons, but qualification this season would also mean big things for the club's youngsters.

Not only would the first team play in the prestigious competition, but City's under-19s would compete in the UEFA Youth League.

The competition mirrors the first team's fixtures through the group stages, and Leicester have played in the competition before, facing FC Copenhagen, Porto and Club Brugge in the 2016-17 season.

After crashing out in the group stages, the current crop of young Foxes will be hoping for first team success so they can go one better than the team of five years ago.

The under-17 group has been the main focus of the club's youth recruitment so far this summer, with a number of new 16-year-olds ready to step into the under-18s next season.

Left-sided players Jahmari Lindsay and Chris Popov have both signed from Manchester United, while midfielder Jack Lewis has joined after he wasn't offered new terms at Liverpool.

Last week, the club signed midfielder Ben Grist from Grimsby Town, beating a number of other Premier League clubs to his signature.

The club's scouting network have been more active than ever over the past year, attending games ranging from local non-league fixtures to international youth tournaments.

LeicestershireLive understands that the club's youth team recruitment is 'far from over' as they look to produce more players for Brendan Rodgers' first team.

The club have recently been linked with a move Dundee United's 16-year-old centre-half Kerr Smith, with a potential six-figure fee involved if the Scot does make a move to King Power Stadium.

His Dundee United teammate Lewis Neilson, 18, was a target for the Foxes in January, but the teenager turned down a move to the East Midlands.

City have expanded their academy recruitment department in the past 18 months and now hold greater pulling power as they are able to offer players world-class facilities at their new Seagrave training base.

The successes of Harvey Barnes, Ben Chilwell and Harvey Barnes are also helpful in recruiting players as there is proof of a pathway for them to progress into the first team.

Steve Travis, who has a strong track record of scouting and recruiting youngsters at Nottingham Forest and Stoke City, joined the club as Head of Emerging Talent last year.

Bill Wall, who has led the club's academy recruitment department since 1997, remains with the club but will be focused solely on scouting.

Wall and his team were responsible for discovering the talents of Harvey Barnes, Hamza Choudhury, Ben Chilwell, Andy King, and many others during their time at the club.

Meanwhile, the club have so far added two new players at under-23 level.

Right-back Iestyn Hughes has joined on a three-year deal after leaving Manchester United and will compete with Vontae Daley-Campbell and Mitch Clark for a place in the Development Squad.

Leicester have also Brad Young from League Two side Hartlepool United, with the 19-year-old also set for a battle to break into the under-23 side.

He faces competition from Chituru Odunze and Jakub Stolarczyk for the shirt, with Daniel Iversen set to go out on loan again.

The club have previously been linked with a move for Spurs contract rebel Elliot Thorpe, 20, although talk of a move has since quietened.

Not bothering to tell us about Beaglehole?

...perhaps this now explains, why we have been bringing in players from other academies, and not looking to develop them ourselves!!!

There is now a clear plan in place for developing this club, and taking us into the upper echelons of the top tier, (and most importantly) competing with them. I would have wished for us to have brought through our local students but that will come later, as we are seeking to build a platform for them, in the short term.

....if Beaglehole is no longer the head of the U23s and his approach no longer a feature in our play, that is all we could ask for!!!

Beaglehole did what he has been doing for a long time, it was the club who failed to resolve the issue in a timely manner. Beaglehole falling on his sword was not going to happen and we need to trust that this new pathway encourages flair and diversity within the new set up..

Sure I was told that only 5/6 from the under 16s were staying on for next season. May point to us signing from other clubs academies early?

Yes, he's been plucked from there after just a couple of months.
