Will be a big test tonight Palace has Michael Olise in and their number 11 is unbelievable - Rak-Sakyi

Another dog shit cast off we've picked up from a club worse than us, still a long way to go until this club takes investment in to the academy seriously.

Our whole defence are other clubs cast offs, Daley-Campbell and Hughes were released from Arsenal and Man Utd. Don't know who this R Nelson is but I'd bet he's joined in similar circumstances.

Nelson has come from Gillingham.

Our whole recruitment in the academy is dubious. Reports this summer we were going big and yet we bought a goalkeeper from Hartlepool, a centre half from Grimsby and then a few free transfers. Chris Popov is a decent capture though, Man Utd wanted him to stay and to be fair the 2 we got from the said lower leagues are highly rated but its still not the signs of a club serious about investment at that level.

With all due respect, Brad Young was called up by England Under 20s and nabbed underneath the noses of Chelsea.

If you look at how Man City have got their youngsters today, it’s a very similar policy.

The likes of Ben Knight, Liam Delap, Samuel Ndozie and Morgan Rogers are from Ipswich, Derby, Millwall and West Brom. They won the league last season at under 23s by largely picking out prospects from across the country and utilising the EPPP to get them

for a cut price

Man City take their youngsters from everywhere, they sign dozens of them every season. I've no issue with signing the best youngsters from lesser academies as part of a strategic recruitment process but that's all we do a long with cast offs from academies in the PL. To date we've not brought through a young player who we've signed aged 16+, you could argue Iversen and Sowah are possibly good enough and Callum Wright we got at 17 from Blackburn who is going to have at the very least a decent career in the EFL but we are lazy in our recruitment.

It should be a huge priority. European football year in, year out requires us to have a conveyor belt of talent, otherwise it puts pressure on the EL squad allowance and competing across 4 competitions. We're a club all about marginal gains on our competitiors but whilst Villa have invested heavily in their academy recently and taken many of the best young players in the Midlands we've been much slower to act.

West Brom, Birmingham and Derby have been hammered for their young players in recent years and we haven't been in the race, I don't get why. I also don't get why we opted against the last chance to bring in some U18 European talent before the transfer rule change and I'm even more at a loss why we aren't still signing some and placing them at Leuven for a few years so that we then get them at 18/19 and we can class them as academy trained players before they are 21 which counts to out quota as well as being able to recruit some of the best European youngsters still.

Went to this tonight, they were obviously much better as the score line suggests but they did seem further ahead of us as far as having players closer to the first team.

Id recommend going to the games, £3 and you get to see a small portion of the new training ground. Even got a cheeky wave out of Brendan leaving for the day.

Hope you all yelled “keep it on the deck” and “play to feet” to negate the Beags’ long ball tactics
