Hope you all yelled “keep it on the deck” and “play to feet” to negate the Beags’ long ball tactics

I think we were too busy barking and shouting roll over at their number 3 who was heard saying “good boy” to another player.

Go be fair you could hear Beaglehole from the other side continually saying play it so I’m not sure about him constantly wanting long ball.

Good to hear on him wanting to play, obviously I was joking on that (a bit).

Good boy indeed! LOL

Was very funny being able to hear the players, the most entertaining part was constantly taking the piss and watching the players react. 10/10 would recommend

Next weeks game vs Everton has already sold out

Next home game after is Friday 1st October vs Leeds - tickets not yet on sale

They are only selling a fraction of the seats because they don’t want people freely wandering round the grounds apparently.

There isn’t masses. We arrived at 6.30 and there weren’t many spaces left.

Yes at least a third of seats empty, despite being “Sold Out”.

No refreshments available which I found a bit surprising; spoke to a steward who said still early days, maybe sometime in the future.

If they do finally decide to sell all 499 tickets, don’t reckon there will be enough car park spaces, maybe tonight’s game was a test run.

Yeah agreed on the parking point.

We went to this as well and would certainly recommend it for a cheap night out. We parked ok, getting there around 6:20, and would have been nice to be able to get something to eat/drink, we were half expecting a burger van at least but they possibly don't want greasy fingers all over the new seats just yet. Big Wes was watching from the balcony, boy, how we could have done with him on the pitch.

Think the biggest entertainment the crowd got was taking the Michael out the opposition for their comments and gestures (it was in a friendly manner though)

All in all a good night despite the result and was nice to be away from the match without any holdups and back home within 20 minutes of the final whistle.

I might see if they want me to do the pizzas. I can then watch my boy Alves and sling some scran.

...we have been pleading for a change in our academy and overhaul of the U23s!!!

We have made changes but have not gone far enough in putting in a program that benefits the whole club.

Petty now in charge of the U23s, and by the sound of things Beaglehole not too far removed, and we still retain the same philosophy, in respect of how the game is played and training regimes.

At the moment we are experiencing heavy defeats across the board, and I can take that, if it leads to us transitioning to a more technical approach to the game.

I would like to see foreign Coaches brought in to elevate the quality that we have in our ranks, and not just to bring the ones through, that would have made it irrespective of where they were being coached.

Reading and QPR having brought maverick players through their systems who have not been stifled and has the ability to express themselves, Eze, Olise and Ejarria have come through their system.

So far, we are paying lip service to a long standing problem, and peeling off the band aid very slowly, in order to prolong a process, for no good reason.

I was there as well, used to go to Holmes park a lot but this is literally 4 minute drive for me now.

Empty seats up near the turf academy building/ balcony where Wes Morgan was standing were reserved for other players/ families as we were sat the first couple of seats near them.

As the newness wears off I think it will get back to Holmes Park attendance and be fairly easy to get tickets, We looked like under 18 side compared to Palace though.

Early red card certainly didn’t help but even with 11 on the park I think last night would’ve been a huge task to come away with a win, a shame being first game with a crowd again.

Parking was a lot easier than I thought it would be with all the car share stuff they were saying before hand. Getting out after final whistle was easy enough too but I turn left instead of right. ;)

Agree on the difference between the teams, Palace were streets ahead.

Ex-Sheffield Wednesday striker George Hirst on following in his father David Hirst's footsteps

George Hirst insists he has never felt any pressure to emulate his father and Sheffield Wednesday icon David Hirst.

Ex-England international David Hirst plundered 149 goals in 358 Owls appearances.

George followed in his dad's footsteps by representing Wednesday, making two appearances as a substitute before leaving in the summer of 2018 following a contract dispute.

After a brief spell at Belgium club Oud-Heverlee Leuven, the 22-year-old headed to Premier League Leicester City. George Hirst spent last season on loan at Rotherham United but failed to score in over 30 outings - the majority coming off the bench.

The striker, currently on a season long-loan at Portsmouth, admits he is still inspired by the goal-scoring exploits of his father.

"When I was younger, I would walk around Hillsborough with my dad and everyone wanted their picture with him," he told The Portsmouth News.

"I was looking at it thinking “He’s only my dad, why would you want a photograph?”.

"But, as you grow up, you see videos and start to understand what impact he had. He’s a legend there, in my eyes especially.

"I don’t see it as a pressure because we are two completely different strikers.

"As much as people will make the comparisons naturally, my dad is 5ft 11in, even though he tells me he’s 6ft! I’m 6ft 4in. He’s left footed, I’m right footed.

"So straight away I don’t see the comparison at all, there are differences.

"Growing up with that hasn’t been a pressure, I’ve seen it as a free learning tool. You can have the best coach in the world, but to have someone like that on my doorstep at home every night, looking at my clips, giving me little pointers, is invaluable.

"I would love to be able to retire and say I played for England more times than he did!

"He also spends a lot of time talking about his goal in the 1993 FA Cup final, so if I can score a couple that would be brilliant.

"Dad has never put any pressure on me, which a lot of people would be surprised about.

"When I was younger, I was told that if I wanted to be a ballet dancer then he’d be quite happy.

"It was up to me. I chose to play football."

George Hirst has featured six times since joining Portsmouth on a temporary basis last month, with five appearances coming off the bench.

"Dad has always said to me there are things I’ll do right, things I’ll do wrong, but I’ve got to work it out myself at times," said Hirst junior.

"It’s no good having someone else there telling you everything you need to do and know – otherwise you’ll never learn anything for yourself."

Hirst's Portsmouth side are due to host Wednesday on December 7.
