I have seen, friends,aquaintences,strangeres succombe to some uncharacteristics traits,Desperate urges and self-denial daily  wonky routine or paths..

Though a majority of  Happy pastime disciplined punters, Enjoy having that punt,

it just takes a small Minority of weaker characters,to Ruin a large Minority of Family lifes..but make millions for the modern too many gambling OTT businesses..

 

Its a question where One draws the line... 

Whos Knocking at the door, whos ringing the bell lottery, state lottery,Football-pools , fair-grounds or casinos,buy 3 get 1 free

Sports various Melting-pots of bets, the stock-exchange, hiding behind investments.

The World Economies have crashed several times due to Stock-brokers taking a punt..

 

Enticement exsists as a word, because in  Peoples-character most seem to want to run with their punts & urges...

I get bombarded with free bets,told I have just won,this or that..falsley Enticed by banks,insurance, A.N.OTHER businesses,to Take a once on a lifetime-offer,

over Internet sites, who still get behind my ad-blockers..Forcing me to do 100s of total irrelevant deletes,and

on every PC/Tablette sign-in, und nothing to do with sites I am logging into... Thats like going into bakery, und before One reaches the Counter 3 Metres away,

Get accosted and Interrupted by a Thousands of salesman, before I can purchase,or just to look at the relevant wares, I  fking originally  went in for..!!

Crude, clandestine over enthusiastic businesses abound in our world...I want to Clock somebody, but again where do we join the line....

 

I have always Sympathy when People put themselves into stressfull, no-way-out situations, this Story is another tragedy,I hate the Type of mentality of These

People these  coniving Sale tactics....

but to fight it, I can only Think of shaming,also the middleman,and the messengers with bombarding-tactics...

If a punter goes into an auction, und comes out with a £ 10,000 painting he nor his Family ever wanted,

or could even  afford because the Auctioneer was pushy & enticing,

Who is to blame & who is morally right or wrong...??

Signed and shared. Like everyone else who has responded, I am very sorry for your loss, which must be almost impossible to bear.

 

Gambling should be treated like tobacco and alcohol - an addiction for which all forms of promotion should be banned, not just free bets. But it would be a start.

So sorry to hear of your loss through what appears to be a harmless catchpenny advert but as you say it is far from safe when presented to an addict. It took me many years to realise any gambling gains were very short lived and worth about 1p a bucket full.

 

I've signed and hope it gets a reading in parliament.

I think this is a great thing you're doing. I couldn't agree more. I think the lies pumped out in the adverts from gambling firms is scandalous. They pretty much imply that you can't lose / you're a mug if you don't have a bet.

 

The greatest insult is the faux-sincerity of the 'when the fun stop, stop' slogan- these firms know full-well that this is not a possibility for many gamblers, especially when they're chasing losses.

 

I am so sorry for your loss. When I was a student I worked for a bookies back when telephone betting was a big thing and I've had grown men crying on the phone because they've spent their kid's Christmas money (for example). It's insidious.

 

Hopefully your petition will make a difference. Best of luck with it.
