Seeing he's all over the Internet having problems at St Etiene, I'm shocked at the hatred some of our fans have for him.

Whilst I was pulling my hair out at the time, and calling for him to go, it is my opinion he did a good job in a transitional period for our club and whilst results were not good, he was on the right track and given more time would imo have turned it around. This is no way anything against Brendan Rodgers, I just dont think Clause Puel deserves pelters from our fans.

Some comments I've seen include - I'll never forgive him for what he did to our club.

Please discuss.

Agree with virtually everything you wrote - except the bit about ‘given more time he would have turned it around.”

He was never gonna turn us around but we were never in relegation under Puel. He did well to steer us away from that when he came in.

He signed some of our better players, and made the changes required, but Rodgers is a better manager and has proved that.

Puel sorted us out. Rodgers would never have come if the squad wasn't built by Puel in the first place.

Puel held us back to be honest. He gets 'some' credit for the signings but I'm not even sure how much of them were really down to him really. I think Ricardo he definitely had an influence - Ghezzal & Diabate both signed against the advice of the scouts to my knowledge.

I don't get the hate towards puel. He made some great signings, was a decent transition coach and did his job to the best of his ability. I hope he does well. He wasn't the devil in human form. Just be respectful and move on

Did some necessary evil as well, albeit not dealt deftly enough. Worked out well for us in the long run. Find it bizarre that Puel gets a level of hatred that Holloway and Taylor have never really got

He’s never going to be remembered as one of the best Leicester managers, no doubt about it.

We have to remember the context of the situation a little bit though, it’s easy now to go he was rubbish - but at the time we needed to solidify ourselves and evolve a bit in order to survive. Those lessons learned from him there have no doubt helped us nowadays under Rodgers otherwise we wouldn’t have hit the ground pretty much running with him and become better again.

Similar to how Pearson set up Ranieri right? That turned out remarkably

well for us, like a fresh cocktail that had never been seen before and no one else could ever invent. We should be very thankful for his input and wish him the best for what he did bring 🦊

Let’s not forget the way he handled the most difficult situation this club had faced. He carried himself with dignity and handled the whole situation very well. Yes, he had his flaws and, probably was correct that he left when he did, but he gets huge credit for this alone. I have nothing against him and never will he was what we needed at the time and we now have someone who’s taken that model and taken us to a new level.

Completely disagree re: Taylor, he's despised in a manner that goes way beyond the ill-feeling some have for Puel, and I'd argue that feeling is as good as universal amongst our fanbase whereas Claude is infinitely more polarising.

Holloway, however, gets away with murder really - said recently in the "worst ever managers" thread. It's as if he didn't come in with 30+ games left of a Championship season and the division's best defence. We weren't great, and a circus off the pitch - but that squad shouldn't have dropped into League One.

Boring football but did really well to guide us to ninth while reducing the average age of the squad.

Got it spectacularly wrong regarding Vardy.

Grade: C-

Pretty much sums it up for me.

He goes into the bracket with other managers we’ve had that you could easily forget.

He isn’t a Taylor, Holloway, Pleat etc

i meant to type 'may have turned it around', and i say that because he brought in the missing link in Youri and didn't have him long before he was sacked. He lost 5 and drew 1,  then after he was sacked we went on to win 5 out of the next 6. That could show that he'd lost the dressing room or that he'd almost cracked it

The definition of stupid is to keep repeating the same thing and expecting a different result...

😂😂 anyone that says that has obviously not been a fan for long.

Try these if you think Puel was bad.

McClintock

Pleat

Taylor

Get three in like them and you'll be begging for Puel back.

You really dont know how bad it can be.

I get what u are saying but those managers never had the backing/owners Puel had.

The only thing I give Puel credit for is the way he handled the helicopter crash.

The trouble with Claude is his pattern is always the same.

Starts well, then the team can't win for toffee for the rest of his tenure apart from an occassional one. The life gets sucked out of the team. Which is a shame as he clearly has good qualities.

On a more happier note, I was at WBA - Bristol City for talkSPORT today, watching a rather more popular ex manager of ours.

Saw Nigel afterwards for press duties.

Big smiles and the usual "eh up lad" but wasn't sure whether to go for the fist bump or handshake or even if he was keeping his distance because of his Covid issues.

We eventually went in for a handshake and hand-on-the-arm thing and with a huge smile he said:
"Of course we can shake hands... but obviously I'll need to sanitise afterwards lol!"

Never change, Nige. Never change :nigel:

Big Nige, one of my favourite people in football. He's got such a presence to him.

What's happening at St Ettiene is expected. Pointless, low-energy possession football gets you spanked every week. Frankly, I'm just surprised it never got that bad while he was in charge of us.

That's why, when we're crap under Brendan, the comparisons are drawn. Puelball is probably going to be a permanent part of our vocabulary as fans now, the definition of 'what not to do'.

It basically would have done if it wasn’t for Vardy. His shots to goal ratio when puel was here was outrageous. Any sort of a chance he was burying and making puel look like this was part of his game plan.

Spot on! We were by all intents and purposes a hoof and chase it team. OK OK that’s a pretty harsh assessment, but we certainly didn’t have the quality or calibre of player to be able to ‘play football’ against any of the truly half decent teams in the Prem back in 16/17 times. We HAD to work through the pain and in hindsight, I think we did pretty well. We brought it some genuinely decent players that had played at a high level and progressed in that respect under Puel, it was a necessary evil as you cannot sustain success sacrificing 60%+ possession to dog poop Watford’s/Norwich’s and the kind … actually looking back it was crazy to think that awful teams would have more possession than us as we purposely set up that way. We’re now a much more cultured, quality outfit and can attract genuine talent because of it!

If it was Stringer, he would made sure he went for a Pony first and didn't wash his hands. "Of course we can shake hands Ian"

The word "hate" gets thrown around with regard to Puel.

I don't know anyone who hates him. I certainly don't hate him.

I was disappointed in his stubbornness and arrogance (especially when things weren't working) and treating players and staff with contempt which turned the place toxic.

He had plenty of opportunities to make life better for everyone but chose not to take them.

He brought everything on himself.

When mild mannered players like Andy King go public and smash him so viciously that ought to set alarm bells ringing in the minds of those who defend Puel.

Find it quite staggering he gets defended so much on here.

I wish him no harm but don't care whether he succeeds or fails elsewhere.

PS I'd rather he doesn't get another managerial job in this country because I pity the reporters and players and staff who have to listen to his boring drivel and deal with his lack of man management.
