I've heard off the grapevine from a few people that because of a restricted budget, we are looking at free agents and loan with buy options.

Josh Brownhill (free)

Tyrhys Dolan (free)

David Camo (loan + plus option)

Chido Obi Martin (loan, no option)

We can see in the coming days if any of this is true or if this is another "Scott Parker has been appointed" moment.

All very decent players tbf…

For the Championship absolutely. The problem is that only Chido I would be confident would cut it it (eventually) in the Premier League. Josh Brownhill is a good example actually of a player that is too good for the Championship and maybe good enough for a lower placed Premier League team, but not any better than that. But that is the market we are shopping in nowadays.

But that in itself is an issue, how do you catchup to Premier League teams without being able to spend Premier League money? The only way really is to develop young talent and buy under priced gems out there and hope that you can create a much better squad than what you paid for.

I would be happy with all of these.

I think he is one we go for if we hopefully shift someone like Ayew

Dolan mainly plays right wing but also sometimes plays as a 10

Brownhill makes no sense.  There's no way he chooses us over Burnley unless we offer him more money or a longer contract than the clarets are, and that's the kind of shit we want to move away from, so why would he join us?

Dolan for free makes sense as competition/cover for a couple of positions.

Obi also makes no sense.  He's a young lad that needs playing time.  We have our own young lads that need playing time in the forward positions, but we'll get to reap the benefits of their progress. We won't if Obi comes with no option. Pointless. Actually detrimental.

Josh Brownhill's estimated weekly salary at Burnley is £45,000, which equates to £2,340,000 annually. This makes him the highest-paid player in the Burnley squad, according to estimates. His salary is reportedly £5,000 more per week than his midfield teammate Josh Cullen.

Wonder what that means for us.  He'll be better value than Skipp I suppose!

All these players are being offered by their respective agents. You can probably guess the other clubs that will be in the race for the same players. If it comes down to wages… well Leicester City and sensible wages are not usually bedfellows!

If you moneyball the signing it’s actually a no brainer, especially as Buonanotte and El Khannouss won’t be here. You could argue it blocks the pathway for others but it’s definitely a position we are short in. With a 46 game season, signing one of the best Championship players last year with over 25 goal contributions… well you can see why we’d be in for him.

In your post you made it read like you had inside information that they were players we were targeting?

Or are they your guesses?

Got no problem with him as a player for us. But we know his ceiling and we know we'll make him impossible to shift when we inevitably want/need to.

If we put him on a sensible contract he could be a very astute signing.  Will we do that?

Optimistically signing him would hopefully mean we've already got a few outs sorted.  Buo and Elk don't play the same role as Brownhill so their absence (and potential departure) isn't really a factor.  More Soumare, Wilf, Skipp...

Not true. Wilf  will only play as #10 or an extremely attacking #8 in the championship lol

A lot of clubs in for Dolan, cov, and derby included. I think given our manager situation we miss out because we simply won’t be signing anyone yet. Makes it vital to get a new manager in quickly.

Brownhill would be terrific. Think some of us are too obsessed with signings that are PL-ready. Risky and costly game for a club who can barely be trusted with money. Hopefully we can find some more Hermansen's

Mavadidi also played CF in France, could do that in the championship.

Managers don't buy players, clubs do. Also, if we wanted our new manager to dodge an input, and we already knew who it was going to be, they could still have input.

Brownhill would be an excellent signing on a free. Proven at this level with Goals from midfield.

Get rid of Soumare and we can easily afford him while still saving money.
