Whilst the topic is tiresome, so are the replies 😂

Of course things should be better once we have our players back from injury

That’s assuming we don’t get any more injuries in the meantime, and that players don’t take 6 months to return to form like Maddison did

What a tiresome reply

We’re doing the best we’ve done since winning the league. Yet this season has been terrible especially with our squad. And the injuries are concerning. That’s my summary.

as soon as Fofana got crocked we knew we'd be up against. as soon as we actually get our 1st choice back for playing regularly we will be flying. aim to get back into Europe. we just need to plan for YT leaving and Evans not playing a full season in the next one.

We’ll be mid to lower table for the next few seasons I think. With or without Rodgers

Which is where our natural position should be anyway.

Other clubs are moving forward quicker than we are now. Like Villa, Wolves

For me the season is a write off we not going down, and we not getting Europe qualification, cup win would be a good ending.

The priority of the club right now has to be to sort out the injuries, the situation is at insanity levels.

Here's where we're at.

Leicester have always been a club with ups and downs. We are not of a sufficient size to be expecting multiple seasons of European football and trophies every year.  Realistically, our ceiling is to get ourselves into a position to challenge the top teams.  We are at that level now and have been for a few seasons.  Plot our trajectory with 5 year periods...

06/07 - 10/11 We were a Championship club that suffered relegation to League 1 and bounced back to the Championship

11/12 - 15/16 We made solid plans to obtain Premier League status which we finally achieved with 14/15 being our first season back in the Prem.  We all lived the dream in 2015/16 with the unlikeliest title win in sport ever.

16/17 - 20/21 Champions League, Europa League, pretty much always being around the top of the league and an FA Cup win to boot.  A world class training facility is built.  This season is our 8th consecutive Premier League season

The trajectory is most definitely upwards, but I do think that we have reached as far as a club of our size can.  Now we are at that level, there will continue to be ups and downs.  Some seasons will be fantastic and some will be disappointing and there are so many variables that play a part - not all of which we can control.  When we are injury free and the top teams under perform we can take advantage, when the top teams play well and injuries mount up for us, then it's to be expected that we fall away somewhat.  To be able to consistently perform to that level whilst having mounting injuries and other set backs is probably the next level to aim at for us.  As we grow as a club with the stadium expansion and as we bed into the training facilities, we might get there, but to consistently finish in the top quarter of the Premier League is a very, very difficult thing to do.  We are talking of truly world class levels of performance at the very pinnacle of elite sport in the most competitive league in the world.  We are just not in a position to expect us to be there all the time right now.  It's difficult enough to sit at that top table, but there are a growing number of other clubs with legitimate ambitions of doing the same too, which only makes it more difficult.

The question mark for me is around Brendan and what his legacy will be.  He delivered us the FA Cup (and Charity Shield) but ultimately our league showing during his tenure is littered with missed opportunities.  There's no way we've gone backwards, but it does feel a little bit that we've stalled.  No doubt we are in a rut in this moment, it's all about where we emerge from it - back on the road to the top or dragged back into the pack?

One thing is for sure though.  This has been a golden age for our club.  Our achievements have been exceptional in the current climate.  To not be a traditional "Big 6" club and win one major trophy is unlikely, to win two is almost unbelievable.  Wes Morgan, Jamie Vardy, Kasper Schmeichel, Marc Albrighton and Christian Fuchs all have two winners medals.  I think I am right in saying there are no other players this century who have 2 winners medals for any domestic trophies without winning at least one of them by playing for a big 6 team.  Remarkable.

Absolutely.

Sometimes we're going to have to take a step backwards to keep going forwards.

The higher you go, the less room there is to improve and your rivals are more entrenched in their positions.

My hope, though, is that we're playing the long game. The really long game. The way our club is run is the envy of many clubs in the game, and many look to follow our model.

There are so many inventive, innovative and forward-thinking clubs out there who do things differently to gain a competitive advantage. Brighton and Brentford are two such impressive clubs. Even Leeds, whose owners have said flattering things about Leicester more than once.

I hope that the clubs at the very top - the Greedy Six - the ones that often rely on pure spending power to get their way, will fall behind in ingenuity and creativity, and there'll come a time when even they can't fight the cyclical nature of the game, and one day, the top 6 won't feature any of those teams. And maybe we could see one or two get relegated.

Wishful thinking, maybe. But if there ever is to be a turning of the wheel, we're in as good a position as any to be challenging to replace them at the very top.

These are still exciting times to be a Leicester fan.

As others have said, I'm being realistic about this season and seeing it as a season that we need to get players back, fit and match ready. We have been ruined by injuries this season.  The players are also bound to be a little rusty from games being postponed. Use this season to prepare for the next one.  I'll worry more if everyone is fit and we are playing badly!

If we pick up the European Conference Trophy and finished top 10, for me that would be a good season.

Every club has highs and lows.

Our off pitch investment means we’re still taking steps forward.

I wouldn't say we're going backwards nor are we going forwards. More like treading water and given the circumstances with all the absentees and disjointed season it's not surprising.

If we can stay in the top half and kick on next season, I for one, would be relatively happy.

Top 10 finish and have a crack at the ECL thingy and u never know we might end the season on a high!

Thank goodness someone else has decided to create another over reactionary thread about one point they wanted to make , but that thought was deemed by them to be too important or unique to just add to one of a million very similar existing topics on here!

I worry we don't have enough things like this on Foxestalk!

One of those people who react after every single result rather than a more balanced view.

I don’t really care about this season. I’ll be bothered about inconsistent form when we consistently have a decent pool of players to pick from.

When was the last time Rodgers has been able to pick a team that he hasn’t been forced into picking?

Completely agree. It's been a season to forget. It's not like we have ever had a full strength team to build up momentum. Next Season will hopefully be a different kettle of kippers

I’m calling it now. Our great adventure is over. We will hold out for a couple more seasons, then it’s back to being a yo-yo.

Then we can all get back to doing what we do best on here, reminiscing about past achievements and moaning like fuch. Happy days. 😂

fairly chill about everything tbh but then I don't let football run my life.

you win some, you lose some.

we're in an enviable position in terms of owners, investment in facilities, decent young players coming through, etc.

we make a few errors, blow a few games, sign a few duff players, but then who doesn't.

foxestalk has some very over reactionary members who always like to ignore the fairly obvious and quite reasonable reasons as to why we don't dominate the league every season; I won't list them but anyone with a shred of ability to see the forest for the trees knows what they are.

yes, things could be better - but things could also be A LOT worse.

try to enjoy the 90 minutes, hell, hate the 90 minutes if you want, but spending all week boiling your own piss about all the things we're doing wrong? well, not much joy in that.

just a game, bigger fish to fry.

Post of the season...:appl:

Honestly, I was going spare about our poor form and weird tactical decisions earlier in the season, but i've mellowed. I feel like a bit of a moron for getting worked up to the point of being in the Brendan Out camp before Christmas. I was wrong.

After the highs of last season and two Wembley triumphs, it was always gonna be hard to replicate that level of form. Then the sheer scale of injuries to key players - surely unprecedented in our entire 130-plus year history.

I don't know if it points to us overachieving or the sheer inconsistency of everyone outside the top three, but after a bit of reflection over Christmas I've realised that it's a minor miracle that we find ourselves in the top half, and Brendan and the lads deserve massive credit for managing to grind out some key results while our squad situation has been so fluid.

The fact that we still have the quality in forward positions to compete in games where we're shipping goals for fun has certainly made it a rollercoaster. But it has also meant that wins like those against Liverpool and Man Utd. have tasted all the sweeter.

I'm pretty relaxed about the season going forwards. It is what it is. We're too good to go down, but I doubt we're gonna be challenging for the top six either with our threadbare squad.

Bring on Brighton, let's see what weird and wonderful performance the boys will serve up today!

Only just started to realise this ffs. Realistically, we do not have the budget to compete against the top 4 year in, year out and have been punching above our weight. I feel incredibly honoured to have experienced the greatest period in our clubs history and more people should appreciate that

Nah we won’t go back to being a yo-yo side. What we’ve done well is invest in the infrastructure of the club rather than splash loads on transfer fees, with the exception of one or two duds.

I think the training ground and improvements to the academy will help us sustain our place in the top flight even if we are mid table more often than not.

It was kind of a joke. A poke at the doom and gloom merchants.

I don’t believe we will, but some seem to long for the days.

Attacking wise, we’ve got some of the best talent in the league.

Ultimately, if we could defend, we’d be higher up.
