Angers realise that with only 18 months left they could see a potential £20-25m talent leave for either a heavily reduced fee or even nothing if he digs his heels in. By all accounts they're touting him around for €20m and maybe we'd agree to that now but he comes in the summer.

By all means a very promising player but they won’t be getting £40m straight up, maybe £20m with clauses or maybe even without is arguable.

The fact there are little-to-no rumours for a centre half right now, but some pretty solid suggestions we're looking at attackers at the moment suggests to me we're looking at a free transfer for a CB in the summer. I know Tarkowski is 'too old' for our normal model, but Evans was a masterstroke at roughly the same age on a free (I think?)
