Considering that the stream is approximately a minute behind the live action when I'm watching Sky Sports or BT Sport on NowTV (I can get the goal alerts on my phone before I see them) - I wonder if you could technically argue in a court of law that you are not actually watching 'live' TV?

We had one when we lived in the UK. We watch a fair bit of live sport, football tennis and the F1, and although most of the TV we watched was recorded so we could skip the adverts, as it's been mentioned, you need one for that.

Considering the content the BBC provides I always saw it as value for money, especially compared with what we had to pay for the likes of BT sport for much fewer viewing hours.

I think if you take into account the price of a monthly non terrestrial  platform the bbc is pretty decent value?

How much is the basic sky or Netflix package a month? £20-30 a month? So that's well over £200 per year.

Yeah, of course.

I also have Sky, Disney+, Prime and Netflix (but I have just cancelled Netflix because I haven't watched anything on it for months, if not years - basically I only like The Crown). I throw money away on this sh!t, especially Sky, but BBC is the only one I would want to keep at all costs (and then maybe Prime, which has grown on me). I can't say I like everything that the BBC does, but I value it as a service in all sorts of ways.

Basic Netflix is £5.99, so you're quite off on that.

With the price of everything seemly skyrocketing, it got me thinking whether we could save some money by getting rid of our TV license. We very rarely watch live TV so don't think we would miss it. I thought it would be interesting to see how many people actually get by without one.

Yes officer, I have a licence.

Yes, you need a TV Licence to watch TV live online. You need a licence to watch or record any TV programme live, on any channel or TV service. ... This applies to any provider you use, including BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, All 4, Sky Go, Virgin Media, BT TV, Apple TV, Now TV, YouTube, Roku and Amazon Prime Video.

Actually, I was under the impression that you had to pay a licence fee if you had equipment capable of receiving TV broadcasts. A TV for example?

What happens if you don’t have a licence but watch bbc live? Do you get reported or does it just not let you?

Back in the old days, there used to be TV detector vans cruising round picking up the signal transmitted into peoples homes and they would check if the address had a licence.

That’s your opinion. Either way it’s not £20-30/mo.

That is not correct. Only to watch live broadcasts, which could be via terrestial, satellite, cable or internet. There is no relationship between devices and licenses as almost any smart device is capable of receiving live broadcasts now. This applies to even YouTube streams according to the BBC.

I’m not angry? You said basic Netflix was £20-30 a month, I replied it was £5.99 and you then said it was “sh1t”, which is irrelevant to your claim of how much it costs. It makes no difference to me either way, I don’t have shares in Netflix.

Over here in canada i dont have the regular tv cable.

I pay for iptv (about £6) a month and get hundreds/thousands of channels from around the globe. Any footy match, afcon,  south america, mls etc.  Indian channels, movies even  porn (although who needs that when you have better options). I supplement this with Netflix and youtube subscriptions as i stream a lot of music over youtube, watch a lot of DIY an other content so advertisements can kiss my arse.

I wouldn't say that i save a lot compared to cable tv but the selection is much much better. Well, until iptv goes down one day lol.

And well, pornhub.com is fantastic :) where was this when i was a young lad?
