Feel like people made their mind up about Congerton based on what we heard from Celtic fans.

He's been fine for us. Nothing incredible like Walsh was but he's done a decent job and has signed players that we will be able to sell for massive profit should the situation arise.

Good luck to him in Italy. He certainly doesn't deserve some of the negativity on here.

We heard the horror reviews on him from Sunderland and Celtic fans and I honestly thought he'd be worse than he was but he's not been any good really either.

Most of the signings have barely improved us except for Justin, Fofana and possibly Daka and Lookman. Soumare hopefully comes good but the rest I'm not impressed with.

...are the club attempting to wrestle back control of the recruitment set up!!!

Yes. Congerton was told his contract wouldn't be renewed and left sharpish.

to be fair he was even worse at Sunderland- he burned through their considerable transfer budget and left them with a load of unsaleable duds on big contracts which is partially responsible for their dire position today.

Also when he left Celtic and moved out of his flat he  left a list of potential signings with comments behind. Not in itself a crime but it doesn't inspire confidence and makes him look a bit of a dingus.

Which is exactly why it's really hard to understand when people demand Rodgers be sacked for whatever bizarre reasons they can think of. Just trust the club, we know they know what they're doing.

We'll see, if they have decided to use the fact that we've been rubbish for a year to tell Rodgers that he's primarily a coach rather than sticking his nose into areas where he has no expertise then I'm all for that. Keep him out of recruitment, sports science and medical. Make using a back 3 a sackable offence and I think we might just about be there :p

...it sounds more like the club is divesting itself from the Rodgers crew and putting people in place that can no longer be controlled by an incumbent manager!!!

You get the feeling that a conversation has taken place and this is the outcome.

Just looking at this from  the outside, it seems like a few associates are now piled underneath the player bus, and Rodgers  has had a hand, in them being there.

As I’m not in the know I never judge the transfer success based on one single individual’s involvement. As a club we’ve done ok in the last ten years or so. We’ve had our fair share of duds, but also more than our fair share of spectacular successes.

For me our worst transfer windows in recent years have been: summer 2016 and summer 2021 (i.e. last summer). The players who came in during the 2016 window were mostly after Walsh left, but surely must have been scouted by his team? Obviously after Mahrez, Kante, Vardy et al Walsh gets a free pass.

I’ve never been one to advocate signing: “squad players”, although I appreciate this is sometimes a necessity. I’d rather us sign one or two players who immediately improve the first team and achieve the rest through internal promotions (KDH) and loans (Lookman). I don’t see that we improved the 1st choice eleven in the summer of 2021 (arguably Lookman, but only because of our dearth of players capable of playing wide right).

If we sign players who don’t improve the first choice X1 then, simplistically speaking, our ceiling is only the same as our previous campaign - and lower if we lose players. This is the area I’d like to see us improve upon.

Branston , the guy who manages players loans

Not sure he would be a Rodgers man as wasn't he an ex LCFC academy player and he before him?

I'm not sure it's as black and white as that. Is Daka "better" than Vardy? Arguably not, at the moment. But it's highly unlikely he comes to a side at "our level" if he has another season bagging all sorts of numbers for Salzburg and we, more than anyone, should appreciate that a season or so of "bedding in" as part of a squad can have an immeasurably positive effect down the line.

I know I'm a stuck record on this but, lets be honest, we almost certainly greatly over-estimate the influence of any one of these individuals.

Congerton was a middle management type that came in to run an established recruitment team that we've had at Leicester for years. The difference between his time here vs. his time at Sunderland is that we are just better at recruitment as a club than they were - with or without him.

It's highly unlikely that our next head of recruitment will see things drastically change here.

(Unless it's @Ric Flair and he goes on a Football Manager spree of signing nothing but 22 year old attacking midfielders/wingers and we somehow manage to get relegated whilst also having the highest Goals Scored in Premier League history because our "Centre Backs" are 5'8 left footed wingers from Mali or something who both hit double figures but we concede on avg 5 a game.)

Let's see Brendan back up his elite manager salary when he's only got left footed right wingers to choose from. If he's as good as he thinks he is, we still should finish top 7 and we'll have a bloody good time doing so.

Just realised my Michael Edwards dream won't happen unless him and Rodgers are able to make up lol

We've got a decent system in place, if we can bring in someone who can improve on that then we should do everything we can. There's a tonne of talent out there that's undervalued and we can afford to pay talented scouts/analysts good money to find them.

yes that's right he pre-dates Rodgers arrival by a few years and has been in a variety of posts at the club. I'm not sure that he and Congerton's departure are necessarily linked in any way to an attack on BR or an attempt to undermine him but it's clear that the club have a vision and if it's not appearing to be  met there will be inevitable casualties.

Told you he wasn't going to be general manager.....

Don’t think you ever said to me he wasn’t going to be general manager?

Still sounds like a step up in role for him anyway.

Exactly, plus t's a good idea as well to succession plan, so we're not scrambling around for replacements when the time comes where a player is sold or drops off the level required. Daka and Soumare were clearly signed to help replace Vardy and Tielemans in the long-term and bolster the squad in the short/medium-term.

Yes - great if it pays off and it still could do, but if you sign no players that immediately improve the team then it could be a huge gamble.

A transfer strategy should focus first on what we need now and then, with any money left, on what we might need for the future. Otherwise you could have a squad full of players who, ultimately, fail to make the grade.

That’s not to say that Daka and Soumare were bad signings and, in Daka’s case, it’s the kind of signing we were always likely to make - as we were never going to replace Vardy.

The biggest waste of the summer just gone, however, wasn’t the purchase of Daka and Soumare (as they may still come good), but the wasted resources on Vestergaard and Bertrand. It’s difficult to see what the strategy was in these signings even in the short, medium or long term. The epitome of ‘squad’ signings (i.e. filling the squad up for the sake of it)

Can we add to that not picking the team, formation, tactics and substitutions? If so, I think you're onto a winner 😁

I know Rodgers got one of his pals to write a piece about how poor Edwards was. They used Firminho (Edwards choice) and Origi (Rodgers choice) as an example of why Rodgers didn't respect Edwards' role lol

The old benfica chief scout José Boto's contract was up this summer and doubt he'll be renewing with Shakhtar. Those who play FM will know of him!

Edit already signed for the Greek club PAOK as Technical Director.

Don't know if he interested in coming back to us.....Steve Walsh

Another that I've read that Leicester are interested in is Nottingham chief scout Andy Scott, he seems to have in got great transfers at Forest and will know more about players in the UK compared to a European Scout
