Daka/Kel (depends entirely on how high the opposition will play, sounds like PSV will leave some gaping gaps, so Daka seems the obvious choice)

 

Having said that nacho and his ropey first touch if there’s big gaps he may get away with :P.

 

On serious note if there’s space I’d play nacho, we don’t seem to look in behind much when Daka plays whether that’s how he’s been asked to play I don’t know? 
 

still no VAR in this?

It was the same for the Brentford game before the Rennes game had been played, obviously admin have their lucky routines as well... :P

We had hundreds of nice French people in the west stand

 

little worried that we might have hundreds of Dutch hooligans in the home end this game 

 

especially given its on general sale for so long

I have been told that are bringing with them a French Polisher (from Renne) to spruce up the away dressing room wooden furniture post match. It will be left spotless and pristine to keep those Renne folk happy.

We had several around us in B3 -- where I have been sitting for the European games -- and they were fine. I will note that when I went to buy tickets on the first day (I am a ST holder in the family stand, so need to move for evening games because don't have the kids), there were almost no tickets available in B3 ... so am hoping that the Dutch fans are more confined.

Man Utd result?

“I think it's very positive. We had a sour taste in our mouths that we didn’t win. We are back to our old self.”

 

Conference League?

“It’s a good competition and we’re getting close to the end. It’s a big game.”

 

Motivated by Europa League qualification?

“It’s definitely a big one. We still have the Premier League but why close options?”

 

King Power sell out?

“We still have their support even if it’s been a bit of a down season.”

 

PSV?

“Teams from Netherlands play good football and press hard. They sometimes have problems on the defensive side.”

 

Difference between leagues?

“We can’t underestimate anyone. It’s not going to be easy just because we’re from the Premier League.”

 

European quarter-final?

“It’s definitely big. It’s a possibility for a trophy which you never say no to. It’s a big motivation.”

 

How to deal with two legs?

“It doesn’t matter if it’s two legs, we try to win both. You only think about the scoreline when it’s five minutes left in the second leg.”

 

How close was fractured skull injury to changing your life?

“Very close. I didn’t realise it was so close in the moment. I’m a very positive person. For me, nothing bad is going to happen. It’s not always the best mentality, but it helps me go forward.”

 

Injury play on your mind?

“I thought it would, but I wasn’t that scared.”

 

Goal on comeback?

“It meant a lot, as the first goal in front of fans for me. It was nice to score on my comeback.”

 

Battle with Ricardo and Justin?

"It's great for the team and when we have games every three or four days, it helps a lot. It's always better to have some fight for the position because it brings out the best of you. It's not like it's a negative fight, we all like each other. It's all good and fun."

Utter shambles from the club that there is still a ticket available for this game.

 

There's a single ticket left 🤣

 

Edit: it's a sell out.

 

Thoughts with those that were adamant it wouldn't sell out. It's almost like the importance of the game and a side thats won a few games has an impact on interest.

Pre-match Press Conference vs PSV - Brendan Rodgers

 

Rodgers on injuries?

“Luke will be back in the squad. Vardy is not available. It’s hard to put a timeline on it. When he’s striking the ball there is an issue in his knee, so we have to get to the bottom of that.”

 

Vardy?

“I just had a quick chat with Jamie, he’d been running in straight lines, but when he was opening up the MCL, when he was striking the ball, he had pain. It doesn’t sound as if he’s too close to being back.”

 

Big game?

“When you arrive in a quarter-final. It’s going to be an intense game. Our supporters and players will be up for it.”

 

PSV?

“They’ve done very well in the league. Offensively, they are very good going forward and they score goals. They concede goals too. Roger is a very good coach. Like most teams from the Netherlands they play very good football. They’re very creative.”

 

Conference League?

“Once we arrived into this competition, we wanted to win it. We don’t have a huge European history.”

 

What would it mean to win competition?

“It’s another competition. For me it’s about the team and the performance. The players are developing. They want to continue that feeling of winning. We have two good games against PSV."

 

Form?

“We’re still not at the level. Players coming back allows us to get closer to that. Duels are very much a part of the game and we have to have that physicality. That then helps with our tempo.”

 

Big game for fans?

“We don’t have a rich history in Europe, so it’s deemed a big occasion. Supporters will create a special atmosphere and we will need that for the tempo. We hope to have a good advantage coming away from the first leg.”

 

Rennes?

“We showed real resilience and guts. It’s never going to be smooth, so you have to have those characteristics. At home we have to have intensity.”

 

PSV's threats?

“Their key threats are at the top of the pitch, Gakpo is a big talent. At the front end of the field, they score goals. They also concede goals, and we have to exploit that. Roger's teams always play with a clear identity. It should be a very good game."

 

How van Nistelrooy coming affects PSV?

“I've never been on that experience but I’m pretty sure they will have gained respect for the manager, as he’s clearly been successful. Ruud comes in at the end of the season and they will be motivated to do well and finish the season as well as they can.”

 

Older players have played in European quarter-final?

“European experiences bode well for the younger players’ development. We play in the strongest lagu in the world, so they are getting the experience week in week out. These experiences are always good and if you can win and pick up trophies, it can elevate your mindset. A lot of the young players have won something. The experienced players are sharing those experiences.”

 

Closer to solving midfield puzzle?

“Yeah, you’ll see tomorrow. It’s not rocket science.”

 

Madueke?

"He's done really well. Came through the system here, wanted to play first team football abroad, talented, physically very good, nice left foot, dynamic, can run behind. He plays with Luke in U21s."

Your preferred 1st XI has a 2-2 or 3-3 score all over it. We need a more packed, aggressive midfield against PSV.

The Champions League home games against Brugge & Copenhagen were special but for some reason this one feels huge.  

 

Playing PSV, such a well known established European team full of history and brilliant ex players etc. almost makes this feel like its a Champions League quarter final, I'm buzzing!!
