Why does Ronnie always have to say such wanky things? Is he just attention seeking?

"I'd rather not be playing here because it is a hard tournament.

"I've always said that this and the Masters are my two worst tournaments. I actually prefer going to Leicester to play in the Championship League, but you kind of have to show up to this one and give this one your best."

I do wonder sometimes if he does it on purpose, i mean he pulled out of the championship league in Leicester so that comment makes no sense.

He genuinely just says stuff, what comes into his head at that moment really lol

So much stuff Ronnie says contradicts with the other stuff he says so almost better just to take his comments as entertaining only.

Nah I really don't think it's attention seeking - I don't want to suggest some kind of label because a) it's not appropriate and b) I am not qualified, but I think it's fair to say he's a complex individual. He reminds me of Robbie Williams in some ways who puts on this overconfident persona, but a lot of it is an act to hide insecurity.

I don't doubt he's a complex character, but I've never heard, well let's say the person you likened him to, Robbie Williams, constantly calling out his fellow musicians, the whole industry, the fans, the concert venues etc.

I don't doubt O'Sullivan has some mental health issues, he's as much admitted it. Doesn't mean we can't call him out for what he is though, a monumental bellend.

Outrageous play from Williams in those final two frames. Hard to believe he faded by his standards for all those years before his 2018 world championship win.

The semi final line up so far consists of a 46 and 47 year old. Could be joined by another 46 year old and a 45 year old.

By comparision, the minimum age for the world senior championship is 40!

For sure. I can’t help but support him, but wouldn’t want to be friends with him. I just don’t think he would see what he says as wrong and that he wouldn’t understand why people get upset that he is speaking honestly.

And that's why he's a bellend, he has no tact and will happily upset people, rubbish the sport that made him famous, and shatter the dreams of young players who probably looked up to him. Rather than be uplifting, or trying to impart some of his knowledge to younger players, or even just keeping quiet, he has to stick the knife in.

And the worst part is his fans lap it up and say he's earned the right to say what he wants. Does that mean Lionel Messi has earned the right to call out young footballers as shit? Do Djokovic, Federer and Nadal shit on the tennis tour at every opportunity? Look at Murray, pretty much every young British player is in contact with him, he's happy to mentor. Look at Mark Williams taking young players like Jackson Page under his wing. I'm not saying O'Sullivan has to do all that but he's the total opposite of a positive influence.

And that's not say sports stars can't criticise things, but half the time, as other say its just like he's doing for the attention, the backlash from it or he has to put out some negative energy. Like the one today, saying he prefers Leicester to the worlds and the masters, when he pulled out of Leicester. Clearly bullshit then isn't it. So why say it? Because rubbishing the worlds whilst playing them brings attention? Because he likes to inflict negative energy around the snooker tour at its biggest event?

Great player, probably the best to pick up a cue, certainly the most naturally gifted, but I'm sorry I think he's just a bit of a twat.

Say what you want about Ronnie but without him its dull.

Most of what he says is BS and hes in a wind up or says it tongue in cheek.

Snooker will be boring when he retires.

I would suggest you're not a snooker fan then. I get he brings in new fans, but snooker will still be enjoyed when he's gone by people who actually enjoy the sport not just his antics.

Describe a fan?

I've been watching snooker since the Taylor Davis final in 86 when I was at School!

Yes, people will watch the sport, but sometimes its the characters.

I love characters in sport as much as the sports themselves.

I cant imagine a whole load of Binghams or Selbys would create much of a buzz!!

Each  to their own though!

And I would suggest snooker was bigger back in the 80's than it is now, so what exactly has Ronnie brought to the table?

Selby is actually a decent character, so is Trump for example, they all have a laugh at times round the table. They can all do that without being disrespectful to others.

Also isn't it funny the shit some other players have got over comments recently, like Murphy, Brecel. Yet when Ronnie says stuff it's fine. **** off. Why is he allowed but nobody else?

If you're on about style of play, I accept he's exciting to watch, but again I appreciate the ability of the likes of Selby, Yan, McGill etc to grind down players and that actually often creates more dramatic frames.

So will snooker be dead when he goes? I hope not because the people who genuinely enjoy it will still watch. It will just lose Ronnie and merry band of gobby morons that follow him round, and imo it'll be better for it.
