1:58 - forty seconds off a PB.

Went off very quick - ran my 10 mile and 15k PB. Just couldn’t quite keep it up. It’s not a surprise that’s the case given how my training has been affected in the last 3 weeks. Was a bit gutted at the finish line but progress is never linear.

Not run for nearly two weeks until yesterday due to illness/extra childcare duties and the fitness drop off was HORRENDOUS. Was running 8.30 minute miles comfortably before and yesterday it was more like 10.30 (although my GPS wasn't playing ball and I suspect it wasn't quite that bad).

Maybe a 10k comeback run was a bit optimistic

Tried a new, flatter route for the first time today and was noticeable how much more I had in the tank by the end.

It's also slightly more scenic and I think that makes a difference. Did a 5k at the weekend with my sister-in-law that took in rivers, parks and tree-lined old railway lines and noticed how much more I enjoyed that just because of the surroundings.

Sometimes it's a new route as well which does - when you run the same route, you know your markers of distance and the harder parts of the route....so your effort works subconsciously.

Yeah. The toughest part of my regular route is early doors so it's a mixed bag. Sometimes have the good feeling of having overcome it early, but others I just feel I've wasted so much energy on it and the rest 9mis just about recovering.

The scenery definitely helps me to enjoy running. I used to go along the canal near me, only issue is they never ground means I stacked it at least once on every run.

I've not ran since i did the Leicester Half Marathon in October due to a calf strain which is just not going away no matter how much physio i have.

I'm literally DREADING the first couple of runs back asi will struggle even a couple of miles.

Considering i could just roll out of bed and do 30 minutes without thinking about it, its amazing how the body just loses fitness....even worse when you are the wrong side of 50 like us!!!!

I'll have you know that I'm still the right side of 50, but I'll let you off because I feel like shite and look worse.

I'll be doing a 5k tomorrow evening all being well, let's see how that goes

How we all getting on? The better weather looks like it might be here.

Thrown myself into training a bit recently and backing it up with weight training.

I certainly need to do a bit of the latter.

Got a bit of a hip/IT band/knee twinge going on at the minute, which I cannot feel when I'm actually running. It's the sort of thing that reminds me that I'm doing no strength work at all

5 and half weeks to Derby - bit all over the place at the moment. Now getting to that 1hr 30+ training runs period which tests you.

I have no expectations for this one. Hoping the weight training helps. I am almost purposely trying to not go OTT this time with training.

Considering a Nottingham-Leicester double - ie. 2 half marathons in 8 days - anyone done similar? I'd target Notts for times and then just enjoy Leicester (or pace set for someone).

My pace is slow because I run off road. I hate road running with a passion. Far nicer running footpaths and trails out in the countryside.

Slow though with the mud, but fun.

I've not run off road for ages, which is daft as I like it and I'm really impressed by my trail shoes.

A friend of mine tripped when running along a stream bed during a race and smashed her knee open on a rock a couple of years ago and I think that maybe that subconsciously puts me off running on more interesting surfaces

Ran on the treadmill a few weeks ago. Didn’t set out to do 5k but got 10 mins in and decided I could probably beat my road time (21.09). Ended up running it in 21.15 seconds but over the next few days I was reminded as to why I hadn’t chased this any more.

Could barely walk, worst bad back I’ve had. Lovely little reminder that I’m not the 21 year old I thought i was.

Running is killing your knees anyway, crack on

It's really crept up from when I booked it!

Best of luck with the rest of your training. No doubt you'll get there :appl:

I live in Derby so do let us know how it goes as I would be interested in hearing all about the course (and your times of course 😇)
