The only thing I'd say is go to a proper running shop, get fitted and see what they say. A shoe that works for one person may not work for the next.

It's the most expensive way of buying shoes but I cut down the long term costs by getting my next pair (either the same or the updated version) online

I've just made the drive this morning from Barnsley to Alderly Edge to visit Running Bear to get my gait analysis done. I picked up a pair of Clifton 9s online last year following some shin splints and as good as they have been I've had a bit of pain in my hips over longer runs. Essentially this morning has shown I overpronate on my right, while my left stays pretty strong. Ended up going with a pair of Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24 which are in a very reasonable price range.

Definitely worth the visit for anyone who's ever out that way, there were some serious looking runners in there who had a few fair boxes around them I imagine dropping a fair bit of £££.

One thing after the other with me right now. Was back pain, which I think turned to sciatica as was so painful in the left cheek area or upper leg. That's just about cleared but now shin splints are back again which I thought I'd got rid of. Absolute agony they are and it's really demoralising having to stop 2/3k in more than once.

Think I'm going to have to rest for longer from running and do something different like swimming to keep myself active

Can anyone recommend some good shoes for longer distances, I'm talking half marathon or marathon distance? For probs no more than £150

Think my Brooks have had it with about 600km on them, and all my other shoes i think are more 5/10k speed run shoes.

Brooks Glycerin 22 are the shoes I've previously had

Adidas Evo SL are the best 'all rounders' I've ever run in...and I've tried them all! Within your budget too.

100% this. Novablasts have revolutionised my running.

Thanks for the recommendations, I've gone for these in the yellow type colour. Hoping they become my long run shoe!

I’m really anti the NovaBlasts 5’s. I find that they lack a bit of oomph and don’t hold up over 10K. Really disappointed with them.

My day to day are the Nike Zoom Fly 6 - the 5 were dreadful but Nike have pulled it back with these. Decent workhorse of a trainer.

I also have a pair of Vaporfly’s and Saucony Endorphin Speed 4’s - love the saucony and they feel like slippers on longer runs.

Nope but keep an eye for out for the Windmill Fell Race - it’s already been this year and a few from my club run it. If you fancy trail, mud, hills then look at next years Belvoir Challenge or the Belper Rover.

I simply love Asics, no other brand comes close in running trainers for my requirements. The scandalous thing is the Jolt 4 which cost about £45 if you can still find them are the best all rounder for me. Can run 20-30km in them and no bother which compared to my pricey Brooks I bought several months ago my feet ache like fcuk after 10km.

Novablast 5 I find very reactive even over longer distances but no single shoe is going to suit everyone, you only have to read your findings on the same brand and models but the iterations to it. Bloody minefield.

It’s a nightmare! People rave about Brooks but I’ve never got on with them. My best shoes were the Nike Lunarglide 9’s. Paid less than £50 and then they discontinued them.

Ran it (or large portions of to) in 2016, good challenge, pissed down the entire day spoiled it a bit.  The last few flat miles back in to Horton from Ingleborough were grim on that limestone pavement though. Go for it !  If you want something local, check out the Charnwood Hills race, Anstey thru Braggy & the golf course to Beacon Hill and back roughly speaking.  Organised by Bowline Climbing Club, usually entries go live in Oct ish for Feb race and it always sells out very quick.  14 ish miles..   https://www.bowlineclimbingclub.co.uk/hills-race

So had two days off 😂

Just done a 5k in 20:24 which I'm fairly pleased about, and that's deliberately holding back a bit with my niggles recovering. Made sure I didn't go quicker than 4 mins per km and 3rd k was mainly up hill too.

Think my ambitions by end of this year are still to be sub 19 mins 5k and sub 40 mins 10k. Current PBs being 19:25 and 41:20 respectively.

Need to switch to more half marathon training soon  though with Pboro half in just over 2 months away

Found out on Thursday that I’ve been picked by Alzheimer’s Research UK to run the London Marathon next year.
Doing it to honour my dad who passed away in January.

Bricking it but excited too.
Always feel awkward promoting things like this. But I don’t know if this is the right place to share my justgiving page?
Just in case anyone fancies chucking a couple of quid towards a great charity.

Asics Novablast 5s

Thanks for the advice again mate. Did a 5k  run in them the other day. Decided to do a marathon today 😂 wanted to go run whilst listening to Lcfc game. Big success in the novblasts, very comfortable

4:12:54. A new pb by ten mins. That's including stopping for a total of about 20 mins for drinks/buy drinks and a train crossing which took forever 😂

Also an elevation gain of 150m 😂

I think in a organised marathon with drinks handed out and in slightly cooler temps I could do sub 3:45. 3:40 under I'd be delighted with.

So elapsed time per km was 5:59. And moving pace 5:30. Delighted again not one km split went over 6 mins.

The worst part of long runs is when you get towards 30k and then over. The distance clock doesn't half start to move slowly. It's like holding on to a lead and watching the scoreboard clock 😂

Will be used purely for my long runs of 15k onwards I think generally. But definitely finding them so comfy.

Just need these niggling injuries to disappear too now 😂

Ran Clevedon Parkrun yesterday - sub 25, pretty chuffed given current form. Today I did a 10k around there. It felt like I climbed every hill possible and thought it must be some huge elevation but apparently not. Either way some good running
