Did the Derby half marathon on Sunday.
Had been the race be been building up to, to go for a pb.
Didn’t have a great last 3 weeks with a few niggles and general prep wasn’t great.

The heat even at 9:15 start was unbearable. Honestly the worst I’ve ran in. Dripping with sweat by the second mile. Got in to a really negative headspace early and couldn’t reset. Wanted to stop halfway but just ground it out as best I could.

Disappointed on the day but think I need a little time off then go again.

Round Sheffield Run was as amazing as ever however the humidity in the woods was something else! Lost the will to live around the half way mark and contemplated a massive DNF howler after being referred to as ‘rapid’ by another run decided not to quit and to see how far in front of him I could finish. (Just under half an hour for those who care and his running mate had quit!)

Finding it pretty tough going at the minute but forcing myself to continue, I can see a few others have said the same so the weather must be a factor.

Just ran 8 miles which is further than I’ve done in a while but it felt a proper slog.

Great effort though pal. Well done for not stopping completely! I did Derby a few years ago and there was one particular part that was just unbearable with no shade, so can only imagine how hard it was this time with even warmer conditions.

Did abbey park again this week. Knocked 2.5 mins off last week.
I’m  recovering from an ACL so only walking. But pleased I’m doing it.
Pisses me off when some pensioner is ahead of me though

Did the local parkrun this morn.

New 5k PB of 19:23! Was aiming for 19:30s so well chuffed. Only annoying this is Strava showing it as 4.95km which is bollocks it won't let me change it.

Did the first k in 3:35 and second only shout 10 secs slower. Set off far too fast really. 20 mins was the long term aim, now it's sub 19

Have you logged onto the desktop version and corrected the distance?

Yes there is no option to edit it. Probably because was sent from my watch to Strava. Have edited on the watch but won't update to Strava. Oh well

Nothing wrong with that time mate. Keep going with it and it will come down even more

I did a 5k this evening that included running up Old John, so naturally it was very, very slow.

First run in ages so made perfect sense to ease myself back in with a run including a massive hill

You’ve got my sympathy mate. I did a 6 mile run that included Old John (from the main car park) and Beacon Hill a few weeks ago and the OJ section is probably one of two occasions where I’ve stopped to walk.

Good effort doing the Derby half bud. For saying it's generally a flat course it's a tough one as nearly always very hot

ive done it 4/5 times from 2018-2023 roughly but every time bar once it was hotter than I want to run in typically

After hammering it through the winter and spring and then my mum sadly passing away, my running has been a bit erratic over the last 6-7 weeks.

I'm back though, a solid week and got a half marathon route planned for North Devon when i'm down there for 2 weeks at the end of this week. Going to get out at it most days.

I have been working on my 5k times and managed to slowly get it down from 22.17 to 20.33. I did a 5k race last week and finished on 20.02, although I was chuffed with my time, I am gutted I was three seconds off a sub twenty. The race was in the evening and was warm so I think on a morning with cooler conditions and I might have done it

The heat saps you. How African runners do it, I'll never know.

I'm inching down to 26 minutes flat. Did 3 miles in 25:50 - but that included having to cross roads. So I'd like to think it's very doable.

My partner and I have started a Running sock business - essentially designed and manufactured in Leicestershire - Polyester/cotton mix so sweat wicking. https://www.run-fox.co.uk/ we are very new to this, we think the product is great and feedback so far has also been good. If anyone needs some more running socks, or gym/sports socks please give us a go, also welcome to any feedback (good or bad) We are also on etsy under RunFoxStore. We are in the process of contacting local running clubs and attending Leicestershire craft fares, if you see us about please come and say hello!

Just had a quick look.

My first thoughts are the design looks decent but i can’t see why I would buy these instead of a normal sock. Are they more cushioned? Etc. Probably needs that clearly explaining on the website, and maybe some pictures of the full sock so you can clearly see the differences.

On a side, more than happy to test a pair and give you feedback. Can wear them, wash them and send them back.
