Chucking the insane wages around was always going to catch up with us.

At least we have a PL title and a FC cup to show for it.

Imagine being Everton

It always used to amaze me when people thought we managed to sign players from champions league club due to the ambition of the club and the training ground.

Dollar dollar bills y'all.

What’s upped our wage bill from last season? Is it the more the new signings or more the contract renewals?

Management and players bonus were deferred from 19/20 didn't help.

Maybe it’s just too nice here ?

we treat the players really well. The atmosphere around the club is apparently excellent. Players like Simpson have commented that once they’d left they didn’t realise what they had here mentally and emotionally.

the training ground must be one of the best places in the world to ply your trade as a professional footballer.

players usually move on because they want more playing time or to be somewhere better or to earn more money.  With five subs on the table this season, maybe those players we are trying to move on think they would prefer to stay here and play bit parts and then when they have to move they will command a much larger sum for themselves as free agents or with only a year left a pretty decent s/o fee.

cags is a perfect example - he won’t be earning much more than 35k per week and yet he shows no intention to sign a new deal or agitate to go anywhere (at least we hear nothing from his agent via the media).  He seems quite happy to see out his last year and then take the thirty pieces of silver en route to a ‘bigger club’.  Given that he probably won’t get that much playing time this season to impress any suitors, you’d have to assume that his next club is already sorted.

What about one year rolling contracts for all clubs, if you don’t perform you go, simple

It's never gonna happen as the horse has bolted. But still think a players worth should be dictated by there contract.

For example we have vardy on 4 year deal, on 100k a week his value is just over 20 million a year into it he's worth 15.

Bigger clubs that have the likes of pogba on 500k a week for 4 years can command just over 100 million a year later he's worth 76.

Wouldn't stop the big clubs paying more for wages or players. But every side would know the value of the player they are trying to sign or sell.

Would probably mean clubs like ourselves thought a little more about handing out the wages we have to hamza, Bertrand etc.

so the smaller clubs with he smaller wage budgets won’t be able to get big fees for their players and the fat six will just get fatter at their expense …..

Definitely a issue there yes. But we have found ourselves with the opposite problem after a few years of good sale profits we now can't shift hamza, perez, Dennis etc because we are paying them too much but still demanding big fees

Someone like hamza would be valued at 6 million and maybe more attractive to suitors if that was the case as apposed to us trying to demand 15 when it's a figure basically plucked from thin air.

The rich clubs aren't getting richer from transfer fees realistically, as they barely touch the sides compared to TV income, merchandise etc, yes we use them as a way to bridge the gap currently, but we would have been able to pick yorui up for closer to 12 to 15 million not 40 odd and still recoup a much better percentage even with one year left because we are paying double what he was earning at Monaco, I think over time it would see a overall reduction in transfer fees meaning a levelling out, and certainly a reduction in wages, messi, neymar, mbappe etc would be in an elite bracket but you wouldn't have clubs risking paying squad players 200k a week. Knowing other clubs aren't gonna be wanting to pay 52 million to take them of there hands if they needed to sell

Bubbles eventually burst! Was going to happen some time, test will be how the fan base reacts to a challenging new era potentially.

Have followed the City and Football in general since the early sixties and find I'm becoming increasingly disillusioned in the modern game. Obscene wages and players becoming more distanced from the supporters fan base just treating the club's as cash cows. Money really has tainted the game with even our fans debating whether Tielemans is worth 200 thou a week ! The involvement of foreign mercenaries has in my opinion exacerbated the situation and of course the hype surrounding the game , with sky for instance. Maybe the bubble bursting is not a bad thing , pro Football will survive but maybe in a more measured way.

I’d have said he had a fair point maybe 8-10 years ago but the English tax has taken over that and they are worst mercenaries in the game now.

The price and wages paid to/for slightly above average players is staggering.

Our clubs are the richest ,(most income,) in the world... the money is given to the players... are the clubs the best in the world?  No.

Some of this is caused by the financial in efficiency of turning over managers... some is down to agents taking clubs for a ride and the clubs bidding up the wages.

It's grim..... articles by sports journalists being written about Leicester and other teams fans talking about us on social media.

Didn't the board we realize we would be in the mess by wasting millions signing crap and paying players who just sit on the bench millions or were they duped by Brendan

I honestly do feel bad that we’ve apparently gone from being a club we could be proud of, in terms of signing the right players and getting them to play well, whilst not going overboard financially, to one that’s signing garbage and not even playing them!

Rodgers is as culpable as anyone here I reckon. He surely must have some say in terms of who we sign and the likes of Perez, Soumare, Vestergaard, Bertrand are costing the club a significant amount of money whilst he basically continues to play mostly the players who were already here!

We haven’t progressed much under Rodgers in terms of this aspect and he’ll probably leave us in some turmoil I suspect
