I'd keep Albrighton. He is already happy playing in the championship. I wouldn't want him starting every game but he can still contribute.

Can anyone come up with a 3rd way to present the same information!? lol

I wouldn't have spent 5 minutes doing that post if I knew you were doing the same lol

Potentially we will have two centre back so will need another two (plus on youth, who? Any good enough?). Two central midfielders, so will need at least another 2. No wingers, so need at least 2. 1 striker, so will need another 2... so about 8 pretty important players we need in, at least. Carnage.

I know the intent, but that tweet is worded completely wrong. It reads as if we have the highest ever wage bill and most expensive squad ever and then went down.

But it's actually "Leicester is the highest wage bill and most expensive squad to ever be relegated"

What do you reckon now?

That we’re in serious danger of free falling into League One or worse, and that this is our punishment for humiliating the powers that be by winning the league against their will. We do however have serious grounds to sue Man City and Everton which would be nice.

I keep seeing these figures mentioned, is the £402 million is that the money we have paid for players? Or a figure someone has made up based on someone’s perceived value of players?

Think it's purchase price not value - just a quick back of the fag packet calculation, comes to a similar figure:

Thank you, this is very informative (and to the post below too!) I think i'd let Mendy, Evans and Amartey go too, not interested in re-signing any of the current lot at this moment. Similarly Ndidi, Nacho and Choudhury i would let run their contracts down next season.

The group with contracts from 2025-2028 need to get their heads around playing in the Championship. Yes some of them might be able to get a move, but we don't need to desperately sell them if offers are derisory. I would expect decent offers to come in for Barnes, Castagne and Justin but it's not certain.

Thanks, when you look at it like that it’s pretty crazy isn’t it.

It was all fear driven wasn't it. We stopped making decisions because of the fear or missing out. Didn't shift on Youri (even for a low ball fee) because we were worried we couldn't replace him with better. Renewed Vardy because we feared what would happen if we got rid of the Goat. Didn't shift the deadwood because we feared what would happen if we depleted the squad. Didn't recruit properly because we feared what would happen if we qualified for Europe again. And we didn't act on Rodgers quickly enough because we feared we couldn't get a better manager.  Didn't make cut throat decisions about Seagrave because we feared what people might think of our 100mil investment. A prolonged period of inactivity led to this. In hindisight, the club shouldn't have been scared of a big clear out in return for a few seasons a mid table mediocre finishes. Instead, all the assets they accumulated contributed to the huge fall from grace in the worst way imaginable.

The biggest lesson learned should be quick, decisive actions needed at all times. You've got to be on top of it, otherwise this sport just spits you out. The club should forever more talk about 'Tielemans Syndrome', where you get caught in many minds and just decide to stay as you are, even though you know full well you really should have done something about it.

Great post, couldn't have put it better myself.

Other clubs are learning from our mistakes. Brighton on paper could go backwards by selling Macalister and Caceido, but they are being smart and cashing in now and bringing in suitable reinforcements whilst they can.

Rodgers rightly gets pelters, but he did call out for members of the squad to be moved on, and he was right to do so. The club did't want to take a hit on the investments they had made, but now as a result they are going to take an even bigger hit and risk being stuck outside the top flight for a while. They were probably scared of being seen to not make a profit or in making a mistake. And look what's happened as a result.
