Rodgers opens up on Leicester City transfer struggles but 'won't go to war' with club

James Justin was going to be out for at least another 6 months

Timothy Castagne was regularly having issues with his shoulder and often picks up niggly injuries

Ricardo had just come back from his ACL and was struggling to get fit and picking up other injuries

Luke Thomas was still only 20

Going into last season it made sense to bring in someone like Bertrand

Nah not having it at all. There was clearly cheaper lower risk alternatives. How many games did Bertrand even start for us?

As I said the other day we're (the club) writing this coming season off before it's even begun.

How are the club writing this season off?

Like who?

I don't like the wage he was on but on a free (?) it was low risk.

My point is the fact he had barely played means we didn’t need anyone. The very few minutes he did play anyone in our academy or a player playing out of position couldn’t have done worse. Fair play to you and @moore_94 if you guys think it was a wise signing I just disagree.

I can see all sides to this argument regarding recruitment.

What I will say is that if we stick with the sell to buy model then we will always sacrifice consistency and ambition. The owners have done wonders off the field, for the club and the city and their investment in the training facilities is a massive boost to a club of our size BUT if you aren't willing to invest in the squad without selling your best assets every year then you have to accept that we can only achieve so much and we're probably coming out of the other side of the best this club has ever been and ever will be under that model.

I haven't said it was a wise signing :)

At the time of signing, with the injuries sustained, it made sense to sign a player there. For all the stick Thomas gets for not being experienced, we signed an experienced player...

It didn't work out in the end. That's just how it is sometimes. In hindsight, a poor signing.

I would say a stupid signing same with Vestaguaard. Just annoying cos it’s not small money and these decisions are ****ing us now in the market.

And so we enter Brendan Phase 4: “It’s their fault not mine

He’ll be out by Xmas.

I would say October. Shame as I quite like him.

He barely played because he was out at the start of the season due to covid and then struggled for the rest with a knee issue he picked up which he ended up needing an operation on

I expect if he was actually available he probably would have played a fair bit more

Did you know they'd be as bad as they turned out?

They're not the sole reason we're fvcked. Quite narrow to think that.

Hopefully a siege mentality will bring the squad together

That’s one thing he has a lot of trouble bringing out of the squad.

For me the club either get rid at the end of last season or they back him this summer - It seems to me they've done/doing neither - of course it remains to be seen.

There seems no future planning or nothing proactive.

I feel the club did try and do something to take back control towards the end of last season - the overhaul with the physio staff, taking back control of the recruitment, giving Rodgers no excuses other than 'the club haven't back me' (Why change the habit of a lifetime - he chucks everyone else under the bus and comes up with all these excuses), this for me is all leading to a Rodgers sacking not far into next season, hence wasting an opportunity to sack him at the end of last season, starting a fresh, instead we've given him this summer, with no backing to sack him a quarter to halfway through next season so for me that's writing the season off before its even begun. Pointless.

I see no change in style of play forthcoming and that is where my issues mainly lie.

I agree with much of this but if there’s genuinely no money to spend and we can’t get rid of any of our players the last thing you want is a new manager.

I fail to see how we, as a club, have written off this upcoming season. Not to ignore your post, but not sacking him at end of last season is not equivalent to writing off the season to come.

Won’t go to war with them cos he won’t win. But yet it’s really weird how they don’t cop any flak.

Who actually appoints Congerton? Sure Brendan might have a say but who actually gives it the green light? Who are the people that keep Brendan in a job when so many wanted him gone. Who actually negotiates the deals? Having players on stupid wages that we can’t shift predates Brendan. Did we really need to spend so much on a training ground or was it a vanity project that cost twice what it needed to?

Seems plenty are keen for responsibility to go up chains of command when that suits the Brendan bashing but no higher.

Yup maybe we've been soft maybe abit of a F*** you going to war will be good for the players. They seemed to not get out the trenches in many games last season until the end games

The owners are very rich, they just don't like spending it on players. We are strictly a sell-to-buy club and that can and will only ever get you so far.

I've never understood why the owners are willing to invest millions in training facilities and stadium upgrade, but not a penny on players. Surely to maintain an ambitious, achieving club you need both the infrastructure and the playing staff. No point having the best facilities in Europe if you don't invest in the players to match.

Not that I'd trust Brendan with the money though...

We're struggling with signings because of the wage bill. If amything, the owners have been too generous in investing in players...
