Rodgers opens up on Leicester City transfer struggles but 'won't go to war' with club

It's the same squad as last year less Lookman and no Europe games so there's no reason why we can't match 8th or better especially if we have less injuries.

I agree, especially if momentum and mentality click.

Only worry that now, not only might we have a player or three who dont want to be here, now they feel unwanted too.

Hopefully he he is just stating it as it is and everyone just gets on with it.

We’re paying a load of them too much, it’s rather telling since Vestergaard came out saying he wants to stay and fight for his place in the Denmark squad! Or is it he’s happy being 5th choice and taking the money?

Think we’re just gonna have to take the hit with the likes of soyuncu and Youri and keep them, hoping they don’t sulk which i have no reason to think they should

What?

Direct investment in players that didn't come from the sale of assets. We should have capitalised after the title winning season and we fooked it.

Not saying necessarily that the all guns blazing splashing the cash on top talent is a great way to go in the long term but after we won the league it could have been useful, when we were at our most attractive to anybody looking in from the outside.

We're struggling with signings because of the wage bill. If amything, the owners have been too generous in investing in players...

I'd argue they've spent FAR too much on contracts, not on players.

Has anyone seen the full transcript that led to this article?

All of those commenting on the not going to war with the club comment it could be that the question we was asked directly led to this assertion.

It may not be the case but alot of people seem to be getting their knickers in a twist, assuming he's getting his excuses in etc, when he might just have been answering a direct question.

Problem is under Rodgers there are not many successful signings - Fofana, Justin and Castagne. I can’t think of anyone else. There’s more misses than hits. He inherited a good side and I don’t see him as doing the so called rebuild as stated.

James Justin was going to be out for at least another 6 months

Timothy Castagne was regularly having issues with his shoulder and often picks up niggly injuries

Ricardo had just come back from his ACL and was struggling to get fit and picking up other injuries

Luke Thomas was still only 20

Going into last season it made sense to bring in someone like Bertrand

It was also only a two-year deal. It's not like we are saddled with him until 2025.

Brendan can’t win. He comes out with an open and honest assessment of our situation and yes, he maybe partially responsible for some of the panic signings we made last year but we still finished a credible 8th despite the worst injury list (of some of our better players) I can remember in my life time as a supporter. If he said he was happy with the current situation (with no signings) he would have been destroyed on here for being disingenuous and trying to pull a fast one. We learned nothing new from the interview, we are in a difficult situation regarding the transfer market but we still have a good squad of players and if he gets them ticking we can still have a good season.

The Premier League era still feels like a dream for me. I am happy to be here and if we need to take stock and reset over the next couple seasons but somehow remain competitive then I am comfortable with this.

You’re right he didn’t say anything new and and there’s nothing to learn from it. It’s just that instead of trying to rally everyone behind the club, we’re starting to hear more excuses.

The Premier League is still a dream. And the most fun we ever had was when we never made excuses about transfers and were willing to take on all opponents, no matter who they were.

As much as I criticise Brendan, I can’t here. I understand his frustrations here. The next question is, who signed off on Vestegaard, Bertrand and Soumare last season. Who scouted and pushed for Praet (a player I’d be happy to keep). For all the good we have done as a club, there have been some amateurish mistake - entering a new signing with potentially no signings is one of them.

Most, if not all, clubs in the world do the same!

I truly will never understand the Bertrand transfer. We have Thomas Justin and Castagne. Why the hell would you sign an old shit left back on £70k a week?! I appreciate injuries etc that is no excuse. Seems extremely dodgy.

Rodgers has links to Bertrand's agents and was with him at Chelsea, old boys club.

Right ? So pointing it out isn’t really an issue at your own club ? We’ve cocked it up and I’m pretty sure most at the club won’t be happy with the situation (as they wouldn’t be at other clubs).

To be fair Rodgers did bring Congerton. His man was the chief scout now he wants to play the blame game.

Its not looking good for him. Seems like he is getting his excuses in early.

The man is preparing his exit strategy for his next job... Can't wait personally.

My Mum always told me if I don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it. So I’m not saying anything. Nothing at all.

I agree with you!

So we don’t need an overhaul?

If we want to go back to challenging for Europe and/or avoid a situation where over the next couple of seasons basically all our important players leave for free, it might be an idea yeah

Hopefully now we going to get a proper chief scout coming in Glover, we can better plan for future players and with all his experience he'll have lots of contacts in the industry.

Congerton was abit inept and clueless in his signing, just getting any player available willy nilly.

Improving the depth of the squad yes but the 1st eleven or so is capable of repeating or bettering last season if it stays injury free, plus it’s never a bad thing to add some young freshness and move on the less used players but we do have some promising academy grads who could fulfil that role
