I don't think it would make that much difference to be honest

This far into the window other clubs will already know the situation with the players we are wanting rid of

yes they will, and now they’ll be offering less.

I have to say, it did take a while but I genuinely think if we can keep the team fit, utilize Praet on the right and with no Europe to worry about, we could challenge for the Conference league.

It might mean taking a bit of a hit in the cup competitions.

If we played Kasper, Castagne, Forfana, Evans, Perriera, KDH, Ndidi, Maddison, Barnes, Vardy, Praet. It should be enough to see most teams off.

Couple of injuries or going 1-0 down, not a lot of options on the bench apart from Daka and Nacho and I suppose that all changes with people to replace injuries.

Think we’re just gonna have to take the hit with the likes of soyuncu and Youri and keep them, hoping they don’t sulk which i have no reason to think they should

What I've seen on the pitch personally makes me think they started sulking a long time ago and the only hope we have is that they start treating it like a shop window and actually performing!

Won’t go to war with them cos he won’t win. But yet it’s really weird how they don’t cop any flak.

Who actually appoints Congerton? Sure Brendan might have a say but who actually gives it the green light? Who are the people that keep Brendan in a job when so many wanted him gone. Who actually negotiates the deals? Having players on stupid wages that we can’t shift predates Brendan. Did we really need to spend so much on a training ground or was it a vanity project that cost twice what it needed to?

Seems plenty are keen for responsibility to go up chains of command when that suits the Brendan bashing but no higher.

Correct. He's gotten things wrong and he's not blameless but Rodgers shouldn't be taking 100% of the stick. I'm having doubts on Rudkin again I can't lie. Manchester United's idiocy has clouded things.

That's a glib manager mostly just saying things we all know.  But at the same time a one-foot-out-the-door interview.  He's lost a lot of his leverage and he can't be happy.

So I'm surprised it seems to have pissed off so many people who want him out.

Oh behave! Clearly we needed new players!

Yeah maybe a couple of new players, which will probably still happen. Not this idea of overhauling the squad.

This squad is more than capable of a top 10 finish talent wise, obviously a few players heads need to be sorted before that.

I get that people feel it's constant Brendan bashing, but the bloke has a track record of covering his arse. As honest as it may be, a lot of his own faults with regards to set up, tactics, squad management need to be addressed also. He will be well aware fans are disgruntled with a lack of transfers and now his excuses are in early, fail to perform and it's I told you so, start well and we will be hearing about how he's managed to make this squad into something special.

Regardless of wanting him out or not more than anything I want the club to do well. This interview drums up further negative emotions, with a couple of weeks still to go I really do fear what the mood around us could be going into the start of a new season. We know how poisonous and damaging it can be when things aren't great off the pitch and in the stands. It could all very quickly turn sour.

If we can minimise the injury list and keep a fit squad we should still be able to compete for around 8th.

It's a shame though because with a few quality players we could of pushed on for Europe.

But we've made some poor transfer decisions under Brendan - Soumare, Bertrand and Vestergaard. It's not hard to understand why nobody else wants them. They're absolute pants.

I think after a poor summer window last year they are making him rectify it by undoing some of the poor quality first to raise funds. He needs to address the existing players contracts also. I think that is fair. Get on with the job please.

Is it? Still comes across as him making excuses. As others have mentioned, most of the players he wants rid are his or given massive contracts under his watch.

Sympathise with him to an extent but if he was to 'go to war' with the club, that would be pathetic and you can't be outright saying the squad is weaker than you need (when it's your squad) whilst trying to lower expectations.

He’s cited annoyance with the situation, he’s being honest to himself there regardless if it’s misguided.

It’s better than the ‘reconnection’ waffle

To be honest, I am surprised no one wants the likes of perez, soyuncu and Tielemans.

I thought them 3 would have been taken off our hands before now.

The later clubs leave it the cheaper they will be hoping to get them most likely.  The chances are clubs will be aware of out situation too, that we have to sell in order to buy, and will hope that will drive down the price too.

He won't go to war but yet he's sort of calling them out. Couldn't be brendan...

Yeah and did he get the ok from the owners before telling the world he was going to get 6 players and a major overhaul ?

Maybe he isn't getting the signings he wants as the club are not 100% convinced in Rodgers.  Maybe they are hedging their bets in case they need to remove him next season and have money for a new manager.

100% wrong,

This puts an awful lot of pressure on next season’s transfer window. Youri will be off on a free most likely, suitors for Maddison will have taken note that we need funds and we’ll still be left with some of the players we want to shift and they may have no inclination to leave.

Did he actually say either of those things?

Rodgers knew exactly what he was doing when he bought this idea of a squad overhaul up last season.

Was never going to happen, his excuses are in early.

I agree.

I had a similar conversation with a fellow supporter at work just as preseason started, that at he would at some point before the season actually kicked off, give an ready baked "excuse interview". Something to keep his credibility intact, should the poo hit the proverbial fan.

Brandan's very good at spinning the rhetoric to protect himself, its never his fault, and if on a rare occasion he does accept the 'responsibility' for something, there is always a catch or an however tagged on it soften it's severity.

Was this an excuse interview? Did he say anything here that we didn’t all know already?

This was a team capable of pushing for 5th with European commitments. It is not a bad squad. What I dislike about Brendan is how he talks the squad down to manage expectations about himself. We might be better if he talked them up. It’s difficult to believe he’ll get the maximum from them when he’s giving them the opposite message. Time to bring in some youth. That would excite me and mean we were trying something different. It could work too.
