Surely we need to start loaning out more of our players.

We have Stolarczyk and Brunt at 21

Flynn and McAteer are 20

Those 4 imo HAVE to be getting senior league football at their ages really.

Then you've got the likes of Marcal-Madivadua, Braybrooke, Maswanhise, of whom any would probably do well to show what they can do in league football, and loaning out the oldest and more experienced youngsters would allow us to promote the likes of Popov and Alves etc to the U21s.

Regardless of the transfer issues we've had we need to keep developing and allowing the best/oldest young players to follow the same path as KDH, Wright etc unless we're planning to give them actual gametime in the first team this season.

With potential issues down the line of cutting costs, we need to make sure we're doing the utmost to develop our academy players and whilst that can be done at the club to an extent, I do feel like we need to be more proactive in loaning out than we have been so far this season.

Teams have to actually want them first

And be a suitable club. No point just chucking them anywhere and either not playing or not getting developed.

That's where we need to be better, either at promoting our players to other clubs or improve the standards of our academy players to get loan moves.

Plenty say they are impressed with our academy and the talent coming through, so why aren't clubs queuing up to loan these players then?

Braybrooke is England U18 captain for heavens sake. Guarantee if the England U18 captain was at any of the big 6 they'd be on loan in the Championship or League One already.

I think one of the reasons Braybrooke has possibly not gone out is because he looks a bit light weight . Oh and the fact he looks about 12 , Christ I’m old

Carabao Cup tonight, I hope both get a start tonight and do well.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Nelson start tonight. Manager says he's going to make changes from Saturday's starting line up.

Carabao Cup 1st Round:

Ben Nelson - starting for Rochdale vs Burton Albion

Khanya Leshabela - starting for Crewe vs Grimsby Town

I think rochdale could beat burton.. they are looking wobbly. That would bve just what he needs to lock down a spot

I always thought Nelson looked way less composed and confident in a back 3 for our U23's compared to a back 4. I hope Rochdale playing a back 3 doesn't hold him back.

Got nothing against Hamza really, always tried whenever called upon and never really let anyone down from what I remember. Limited footballer though but I think he will have a decent career coming up and down between the Championship and Premier league.

Loaning someone who is out of the contract at the end of the season says everything about our inability to sell anyone.

Good luck Hamza, hope you restart your career.

Hopefully do well for us .

Won’t need to be that great to improve our midfield tbh .

Getting close to the opposition would be a start .

Genuinely think he'll do well for you. Play him in every game, and hopefully his high energy style will suit playing the high number of games in the Championship. Just needs to re-focus. Good luck to him.

He’s exactly the type of player you need in the championship. He’s comfortable enough in the prem, so will do well a division below. Will love getting stuck in and having regular game time.

Me too but he seems to have made a good start last night.

Anyone seen any feedback or comments knocking about from Rochdale fans about him last night?

Im a loser and went on their forum. Not many comments on him which is odd, but in their match ratings thread he got a 6.9 which was the 3rd highest and clear of the other defenders . Which suggests a steady, did what needed to be done performance.

Promising Leicester City starlet takes important first step
How Ben Nelson and Khanya Leshabela in their first few weeks at their new loan clubs, with centre-back Nelson getting his first taste of senior football with Rochdale

Promising Leicester City defender Ben Nelson made the first senior start of his career this week as he helped Rochdale cause an upset in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

The England Under-18s centre-back, one of the most highly-rated prospects in the club’s youth ranks, played 90 minutes on Tuesday night as part of a back three, helping League Two outfit Rochdale keep a clean sheet in their 2-0 win over League One side Burton Albion. James Ball and Devante Rodney scored the late goals for the Dale.

Nelson had played pre-season matches for City and had been named by Brendan Rodgers on the bench for the first team on eight separate occasions, but had never tasted senior football. That has changed at Rochdale.

The 18-year-old made his first appearance in the club’s opening game of League Two, coming on for the quarter of an hour in their 2-1 defeat to Crewe, but was an unused substitute in their second outing, a 1-0 loss to Gillingham. He will hope that a clean sheet in the cup helps him get a first league start this weekend, when Rochdale host Grimsby Town.

City’s other loanee in League Two, midfielder Khanya Leshabela, also played 90 minutes in the Carabao Cup, but was less successful. His new side Crewe were thrashed 4-0 by Grimsby. Leshabela has been used off the bench in each of the Alex’s first two league games, both victories, but this was his first start for the club.

The South African already has some senior experience to his name, making his City debut in March 2021 in a win over Sheffield United, while spending a portion of last season on loan with Shrewsbury.
