he expected to go straight into the side?

I'm surprised he's gone straight in.  He's only been there a few days; hardly time to bed him in.

Watford fans have been waxing lyrical about Leicester City academy graduate Hamza Choudhury after the loanee’s debut for the club.

The City midfielder signed for the Hornets on a season-long loan this week, with Watford having an option to buy the player at the end of the deal. Choudhury was due to be out of contract with City at the end of this season, but the club exercised a two year extension option in his deal before sending him on loan.

The midfielder was straight into the action on Friday night when he was named in the starting line up for Watford for their Championship clash vs Burnley. The Hornets came out as 1-0 winners thanks to Tom Cleverley’s goal just before half time. Watford did see Hassane Kamara sent off in the 81st minute, but were able to maintain their lead to take all three points from the game.

Choudhury has been on the fringes of the City team for the last few seasons, and has almost left on a few occasions, with Newcastle heavily linked. His move to Watford will see the 24-year-old get the regular game time he’s not been getting at the King Power Stadium.

And it seems that he has taken his chance with both hands. Taking to social media after the game, Watford fans were clearly impressed with the midfielder’s debut, with some even keen for the deal to already be made permanent.

Sam Ucko : Hamza Choudhury was so good. Made some great challenges and offers so much more balance to our midfield. Let’s hope he can keep it up. #WatfordFC

Bradley Hayden : Hamza Choudhury was excellent. Looked a class above anything in midfield, some lovely touches and passes and some brilliant tackles and interceptions too. Sierralta and Cathcart excellent at the back alongside Kamara until his red card. #WatfordFC

Seamus Kelly : Whatever the price is for Choudhury to make him permanent Mr Pozzo please pay it!! #WatfordFC #COYH

Jacob Culshaw : Hamza Choudhury was superb. The tackle in the second half summed his performance up. MOTM. #watfordfc

Jay : Can we exercise that option to buy on Hamza Choudhury now?

#watfordfc

@RevoltingJames : Choudhury a fans’ favourite already. Didn’t take long. Top player #WatfordFC

Tom Bodell : Hamza Choudhury has done well. Energy, industry and regularly in the right position to get a vital foot in. #WatfordFC

Hornet Shane : Hamza Chowdhury was absolutely immense tonight, he was dynamic, tenacious and composed throughout.

Will be a massive player for us this season. #WatfordFC

Choudhury On Hornets Debut: “It’s Gone Just As I Wanted”

Hamza Choudhury immediately endeared himself to the Watford supporters with a committed performance in the Hornets’ 1-0 win over Burnley.

The midfielder, who only joined the Golden Boys on Wednesday on loan from Leicester City, made an instant impact in a hard-fought Watford win, earning a rapturous applause upon his substitution on 81 minutes.

Speaking after the game, Choudhury felt it was the perfect way to begin life as a Hornet, soaking up the atmosphere for the first time.

“It’s gone just as I wanted. Three points in front of these amazing fans, it’s a really good start,” the 24-year-old began.

“[The atmosphere] was really good, everything I expected. I’ve been here as the opposition and it’s always a tough place to come to and the fans really bring the atmosphere, so to be on the team with those fans, it’s a great feeling.”

Facing a Burnley side relegated with Watford last season and keen to make an immediate return to the Premier League, Choudhury knew it would be a difficult test. Ending the game with 10 men after Hassane Kamara’s red card, he was pleased with how his new team coped with the pressure.

“We all know what Burnley did in the summer, they had a big turnover of players and brought in a really good manager,” continued the loanee. “We knew it was going to be tough and we know they want to be right at the top with us, but the boys dug deep, showed fight and courage. It’s a massive three points.”

It’s been a whirlwind start, but Choudhury feels settled already in yellow. Hearing of Watford’s interest two weeks ago, it was the strength of the squad and Head Coach Rob Edwards that influenced his decision.

“I spoke to the gaffer quite a few times before I came and he spoke to me about what he wants me to do,” Choudhury explained. “He made me feel right at home and the lads have really helped me settle in. It’s an amazing bunch of lads.

“I watched a few of their games and I’d heard a lot of positive things about the gaffer, and so far it feels like the right decision with the squad and manager. It’s a great club!

“It’s the third game of the season and it’s important for us to show that we can do the other side of the game, especially in this league where we have to dig deep and get the three points.”

Looks like he’s certainly gunna get some experience of defending there this season.

Rochdale lost every game so far in the league haven't they? They were diabolical last season too, amazing how we couldn't sort a better calibre of club for him.

Seems to be one of the few players getting any credit for tonight on there forum

'Odoh and Nelson were the only positives for me.'

'keeper MOM although Nelson played some nice football at times. '

I remember the owner putting out a tweet about how hard the worked to get him. Would be interested in what those conversations were like.

At his age,  the Rochdale experience should be good.  After his defensive practice,  we could recall him in January and give him a dual role of player/set-piece coach.
