The game against Stockport highlights to me why he is 100% to blame. The whole match we played Brendan ball. He cannot, and will not, change from his philosophy, even for League 2 opposition the the league cup.  Problem is, Brendan ball is so easy to defend if you know its what you are going to get. All the opposition have to hope for is that Madders or KDH don't score a worldie from outside the box, and the more these players have their confidence zapped away from them, the less likely they are going to score worldies.

Sorry but you cannot play any other way against a League 2 side. They are so used to opposition going long. Lower league defenders will be used to just heading clear the ball all day.

It was winding me up people behind me shouting "lump it in the box". It's never going to work against League 2 sides. Best way to try and beat them was technically, quick football. It's not a coincidence we were on top once Maddison came on.

Is that what we call slow sideways passing now? Nowhere in my post did i say we should have been playing hoofy ball, but actually a bit of mixing it up may have helped. But certainly being more direct and less predicable would have made a difference.

I'm not saying people don't want him gone. But why are you associating him with two of our worse managers of all time? Rodgers' name is nowhere near them. People want him gone but he will be looked back upon fondly considering he delivered us the FA Cup which no other previous manager could do.

ok good call, you are right he's not as bad as them.

I was talking generally. I know our play was slow but it picked up late second half once KDH and Maddison were on.

Didn’t you know? It’s the only alternative mate.

Possession football or lumping it up top.

Theres no inbetween.

Black and White.

If you dare to say you don’t like this “pretty”, “sexy”, “attractive” possession based football it must mean you like hoofing, lumping it up top, knuckle dragging anti-football.

Simple as that pal…..

After the Villa game. I think they will allow him Chelsea and United as two free hits, and then Brighton and Villa will cast the deciding vote.

We’re in no shape to win a football game, we’ve no confidence, no fight, no desire and statistics at both ends of the pitch are that of a side in relegation form.

We won’t pick up another point until he has gone in my opinion, I think the next 4 games will be 4 straight defeats and he will be gone after the Villa game.

The only issue being we will probably have no Fofana, and no new signings. So it’s one hell of a job for the new manager coming in to turn this around.

We will most likely get annihilated by a good Chelsea team and a very average United. The fans will turn even more than they have done and he won't make it to Brighton.

Before you start getting sarcastic, nowhere in my post did I say that OP said that either.

I said people behind me at the game were saying it, and they were.

We usually agree on things, and you know full well I've mentioned time and time again about us needing to go long/direct at times but against a lower league oppsosition, away from home especially, it just wouldn't work.

Direct doesn't necessarily mean aerial balls though, it's playing vertically rather than laterally, moving through phases quicker. That does work against basically anyone.

Also if you are playing direct, the aim isn't necessarily to win the first ball, but defenders having to deal with crosses will be pulled out of position, this is where the team should be pressing like mad to win the ball back while the other team is out of shape after dealing with balls. This is how we scored a good deal of goals in Rodgers first season, turning the ball over and then 1 or 2 passes and we've created a good chance.

Stockport have conceded 9 goals (more than any other team in league two so far) yet we've still got people making up excuses for Rodgers. Mental. Unless people think that our squad players are conference standard, then something doesn't add up.

If we're saying Rodgers has no way of coaching a team of internationals to break down a league 2's second XI then the bar is set incredibly low for our manager.

I wasn't being sarcastic to you per se.

Just those who have the opinion anything other than this (apparently) 'pretty' and 'attractive' possession based game is anti-football and the only alternative is long/direct, are the really that narrow minded?

We can play a possession based game, fine, but let's look to pass it forward, on the front foot, be positive, if you can't, look for alternative ways, switch it and mix it up abit.

Don't just keep doing the same side to side shit, camped infront of your own 18 yard box, every. single. game. Please, it's predictable and more importantly, it's negative.

Generally the 'beautiful' possession game for most clubs is side to side I generally gauge people would rather see that and they see the only alternative as 'anti-football' being long/direct and ironically they beleive that is negative, truly brainwashed by this need of possession.

The idea of football is excitement, attacking intent, to create chances and score goals, not have 65%+ possession, pass sideways, pass the ball to death, whilst create nothing. Anti-football.

There's more than one way to skin a cat.

I was told here yesterday there is only one way to beat a League 2 side - through skillful football. But when Southampton played us they realised we were defensively shocking and scored from a long throw. I don't want to be playing hoofy ball, but to only be trying one thing, all the time is utter madness. We didn't even take notice of Stockports defensive record and mix it up. Just continued to play Rodgers ball, because that's the only way to win a match. Except of course, we don't know how to win anymore.

Only 3 games in but confidence is zero and atmosphere growing in toxicity.

Rodgers has been rotten for a long time and he has no new players to at least try and improve yet Top stays quiet.

Just come out with a not so dreaded vote of confidence!

I think it will be after we get a kicking for Brighton and Maupay scores an unprecedented 6 in one game!

We’ll have to wait till the Everton match for that bit of joy.

I fear there needs to be a protest at a game as the board are been very stubborn, I think Vichai would have pulled the trigger by now.

This. I'm afraid that is what it might take.
