Once again numerous deaths of teenagers happening from entering bodies of water and getting into trouble. It seems 4 reported including just down the road from myself at Rother Valley in Rotherham.

So needless. There seems to be a real lack of awareness about water safety and you only ever hear about it after a series of incidents like now.

Should schools be doing more? Surely educating young people on matters like this and road safety is more important than certain parts of the curriculum. Do they cover this and it’s just always going to be certain people don’t take notice? Is it parents not doing enough? Really hard to know but it’s really worrying as a parent.

In a very old pub in Penzance yesterday, made of big blocks of stone. Raging hot outside, lovely and cool in the pub. No AC needed.

Thought I’d share.

Older buildings with their thick walls are cooler in summer and warmer in winter. In southern Spain I´ve seen reasonably modern houses built within caves and the same principle applies.

I have a temperature "station" with 2 sensors, one inside the house and one outside. It helps me to decide when to open and close the windows and doors  to warm/cool the house. At the moment, I leave them open in the morning until the outside is warmer than the inside, close them during the rest of the day and open them at night when it´s cooler outside than inside

It's horrible, and I think you'll always get an element of 'it'll never happen to me' on anything like this.

I was annoyed the other day as there was something on FB about the police warning about these very dangers and the comments were littered with stuff like 'why aren't you catching criminals', 'let kids be kids' and 'I used to jump off a 50ft cliff into 6 inches of water and it never did me any harm' and all that total bollocks, and I imagine if you live in a household where that's the sort of thing that gets said then the risk goes up quite a bit

We need more shocking children's education videos.

Like the kids who lost his legs on the train tracks.

We used to get the Public Information films on the TV back in the day, warning of these type of things.

Perhaps they should start appearing in the ad breaks when youngsters are on YT, Snapchat, Instagram and the like, with no option to 'skip'

I do find this weather unbearable. I’m far happier on a mild 15 - 20c and the sun being out.

I think wearing sun cream makes it worse though, as I just feel greasy and sticky

It’s the humidity that does it, more than the heat though. As you sweat and can’t cool down.

Some of the best times of my life have involved being greasy and sticky.

I'm all for it, tbh

Are you on the Eastern side of the county?

Just looking at the lightning maps and the storm looks biblical over there.

Caves and underground systems are known for being at an almost constant ambient temperature.

Don't let kids become dead kids.

Just because the parent survived being chucked off the bridge in Abbey Park, doesn't mean the kid will, but the parents do seem quite risk averse because of the second bit in bold.

Melton Mowbray. I've honestly never known this type of weather. Whats worse is the water had filled up (10cm high) a step outside my dining room and there was no escape and it started leaking thru the patio doors. (Note to self to get new doors)  So just spent the best part of 2 hours mopping the wooden floor which will probably be damaged after being sat under 3cm of water ffs.
Had some respite for about 45 mins but its started again with thunder / lightning, hail and rain. Im dreading going into dining room tomorrow ;(

Wow! That much!

I’m currently down in Somerset and it’s still bloody warm with no rain in sight.

I hope you get it sorted. Meanwhile, here in Hinckley, it's muggy with a bit of breeze but no rain, disappointingly. The temperature hasn't really dropped by much either. We have a south facing garden so there's very little respite from the sun.

It's going to be hot and sticky in bed tonight.

I think it's a variation on the 'don't tell me what to do' stance which a lot of folk like to take in all sorts of situations including many where they are not being told what to do. 'Don't warn me of risks with a view to helping keep my family and I safe and avoiding foreseeable harm!' doesn't have the same ring does it?

I’ve given up fighting with my missus on this

she simply cannot understand that having the windows closed is better once it’s becoming hotter outside than in

does anyone else have this issue with their female partner when it comes to this (and thermostats )

It's just common sense, no? If it's hotter outside than indoors why would you want to let the warmer air in? Here in Spain we have the doors and blinds closed all day in the summer, they are only opened first thing in the morning before the sun comes up and then not again until night time when it's cooled down enough that the air outside is cooler. If we want daylight we open the blinds but put the air-conditioning on lol

Luckily my wife gets it. Have you explained that when the weather is cold you shut the windows to keep out the cold air. When the  weather is hot you shut them to keep out the hot air

You have more than one drive? Surely you can afford a boat to park on one of them.

My wife completely gets this but I used to work with a bloke that would always come back from going for a walk on a hot day with a proper sweat on and EVERY TIME open the window we'd kept shut all morning to let a lovely blast of hot air into the office and say 'oh, that's better'

How many drives do you have at Suzie's Manor House? :)

Had thunderstorms rolling around since half 3 and apparently will have them keep going until around 2am.

Loving it. Got the bedroom down to 20c and not sweating like a pregnant nun any more.
