Maddison is one of the best players we've had for ages but in the system we play he doesn't fit in. He drifts inside leaving the right side with just Castagne. When Praet came on playing on the right, Castagne and the team looked better. Maddison went into the centre and promptly scored a brilliant goal and Praet played a ball for Castagne to go past two players and set Vardy up for a tap in. If Maddison was to go we'd have to replace him with a right winger with similar goals and assists. I can't see that being easy. We seem to buy players without a clue of how we are going to utilize them and so have ended up with a squad of players of which many don't fit the way we play. 1

moore_94 Posted 25 October 2022 Posted 25 October 2022 Can’t see either of Youri or Maddison actually leaving in January, and I think Youri will wait until the summer to agree a deal Perez - free Soyuncu - £5m Vestergaard - bin Centre back and right winger in Loan one and buy the other Use the World Cup break as a chance to line deals up and sorted as soon as we get into January 2

moore_94 Posted 27 October 2022 Posted 27 October 2022 January? “You’re constantly reviewing it. I’ve got a meeting today with the recruitment team looking at January. It’s ongoing. There will be gossip around players, but that doesn’t concern me. Hopefully we can do some business in January.” Add to squad? “I’m hopeful we can. You can see the impact one player has made to our team, and if we had another four of those, that would help us. Let’s see if we can do anything in January.” 1
Lcfc-1992 Posted 27 October 2022 Posted 27 October 2022 Someone make the peep show meme 4 signings Brendan? 4? That’s insane 1
LVFox Posted 27 October 2022 Posted 27 October 2022 Won’t hold my breath about too much happening in Jan. Just as long as anything that does happen is either a GK, CB or RW, I’m happy.

Guest Posted 27 October 2022 Posted 27 October 2022 (edited) Presumably unless our financial situation has improved pretty dramatically and/or we manage to shift some of our deadwood, we're going to be scrabbling around for loans and maybe bargains on players with contracts coming to an end? Finding four such targets who are going to improve the squad and are enthusiastic about wading into a relegation battle seems unlikely. Edited 27 October 2022 by Guest

Or we just got the Fofana deal done to late in the summer to get other deals done. We also have a head of recruitment in place unlike the summer window. 1

What little inside information we got over the summer suggested that we'd only be able to spend a fraction of the Fofana fee, and then most of that went straight on his replacement. I don't dispute we might be able to do some further business e.g. going back in for Boga, who we had obviously worked out we could afford. Unless he's a genuine miracle worker then having Glover in place doesn't change my opinion that it's pretty fanciful to think we'd be able to source four players with the ability make a similar impact to Faes, and I suspect Rodgers probably knows that.

Fanciful maybe. But the owner may have taken the view that he has no choice but to push the boat out due to the risk of relegation. We may also see a few leave. As Wout Faes has provide you don't have to break the bank Edited 27 October 2022 by coolhandfox

Why do we not concentrate on a Right Winger, who is someone who enjoys the craft, as opposed to players we slot in to do a job? I am sure we do not see ourselves with a winger other than Barnes, unbelievably we still do not see it as a problem, perhaps that is how the manager sees the game!
Sly Posted 28 October 2022 Posted 28 October 2022 If we’re looking at 4 players, here’s a few to consider. New Goalkeeper? Rodgers seems to rate Ward but I think we all know we need a new number 1. Rotation option for Barnes? We'd have signed Lookman if we could have afforded him, I'm convinced of that. Right Winger? We can dream, but I'm not convinced we will sign one now it seems to be Maddison's starting position. Another CB? Been linked with Atila Szalai a few times, who is left footed and an absolute unit.

Long term we need all of the above positions improving, then replacements for Tielemans and sadly Maddison which is going to be horrible. Alves and Braybrooke may honestly help solve a huge headache though, but we can't expect that. I also expect Iheanacho to depart in the summer and we'd need another forward but to get the best out of such a player I think they need to be very dynamic that cover Barnes or the 1st choice RW or a player that can properly play up front on their own and give us something different. 2

That's a pretty good list to be fair, I think 3 of those will be high on the agenda. It is tricky because we have to blend immediate needs vs long-term rebuilding of the squad. Looking at the goalkeeping situation, we have two very inexperienced GK at this level, I can see us adding a keeper with top-level experience and maybe moving Iversen on at some point. Looking at the CB situation, we only really have Faes as a long-term option, Evans, Amartey, and Souyncu are all out of contract in the summer and Vestiguarrd is not fancied. We are going to have to address it this winter or in the summer. RWer is a no-brainer for me, you want your best player on the ball as much as possible, get Maddison back at 10 should be a priority. Lookman was always a luxury signing for me and a gamble to see if he could play RW, we can't keep buying squad players and rotation players when we have big gaps elsewhere. Ideal you want a player who can play both or an out and out RW. For me the next 2 windows we need to focus on restructuring the balance of the squad we have too many CM and not enough wide opinions. Whether people like it or not BR was right that we need a refresh and a rebuild, it's going to be a massive job for the club and Glover as head of recruitment. 2

Agree with you on this. Rodgers does love to make an excuse for himself, but this team is almost at the end of the line. I didn't realise all of those defenders are on the way out!
