He'll be desperate to get out in the Summer rather than play in the Championship and his agent will be pimping him out as usual.

Obviously nobody will come in for him so we'll have to play him.

As it's the Championship he'll do quite well and all our fans will love him again.

Nobody will come in for him again the following Summer so he'll accept an extension on massive wages from us.

Puts in another laughingstock of a season in the PL.

The cycle continues perpetually.

I agree with most of what you said apart from the bit about another laughing stock season in the prem. We go down this season, we ain't coming back. We got fortunate last season as we hired Maresca, but generally clubs as poorly run as ours won't keep getting back up. The championship has some really good sides and as crap as Ipswich and Southampton have been this season, wouldn't surprise me if they were stronger than us next season.

Yeah, that's fair enough.

I actually don't agree though -  I do understand the doom and gloom around going down and staying down...but I think the squad we have will do very well in the Championship.

If we can avoid points deductions, we'll do well next year.

Happy to come back to this post when we're in the bottom half at Christmas having just been battered by Stoke though!

I'm comparing his style not his ability level.

But how is is style actually similar? The only think that he can do similarly to Soyuncu is his long range passing. He doesn't have the pace of Soyuncu which allowed him to take risks in terms of positioning and going into challenges. I have never seen Faes totally dominant an opposing attacker in the way that Soyuncu did. He doesn't have the same physicality. Whilst decent at bringing the ball out, he can't do it in the way Soyuncu did.

I understand why you're trying to make that comparison, but they are not actually similar in style. If you can't do the same things as another player in your role can (let alone do as well) then you're not a similar style of defender. Even JV was at his best in terms of front foot defending last year but you wouldn't describe him as similar to Soyuncu. I think that's part of Faes problem in that he doesn't have a single role in defence that he can do well. Can't be the front foot defender ala Soyuncu/Fofana, hasn't got the concentration to be a proper backs to the wall defender (though that is his best role), doesn't have the composure/decision making to play as the quarterback and doesn't have the positional awareness/pace to play as wide centre back. He's just not very good at anything and on top of that, has as shocking attitude. Telling that so many people would put JV ahead of him who is also not up to it at this level.

He was a bargain basement cost (14m euros) and plays like it. I never doubt his effort and he is very rarely injured. He just isn't very good, but im not really surprised based on how much he cost. Cant keep comparing him to other CB's who cost a lot more. Even Souttar cost about £4-5 million more!

But Wout isn't our problem. Our issue is that we only have bargain basement CB's that no one else wants and we've not been able to recruit to improve. 3 of our CB's are Coady/Faes and Vesty. Its comical. I like the look of Okoli but i think its going to take him a little longer to get fully up to speed.

Agree with the first half, and much of the second. But he most definitely is a problem, and ours, for now. I look forward to the day a bottom half Ligue 1 team take him off us in the summer.

Never forget his Brace at Liverpool, for Liverpool.

I always thought a better defender in that situation does not score those goals. People claim "unlucky" but if Evans was in that position he wouldn't have done it.

Faes has been terrible all his time here. Aside from one season in the Championship. Same with Vestergaard. Those two must be up there with our worse centre half pairings of all time.

This is the kind of defender he is, was and always will be:

Every time you get soft on him, watch this to sober up.

If   they are both so bad why are they picked for Belgium and Denmark   both on par with England

He’s such a donkey of a player as a defender. Totally untrustworthy and unreliable full of catastrophic mistakes! No team with any sense will risk him in their back line sureky

Using international selection isn't really a defence for me. You've got to consider the competition.

Both Countries might be on par with England but if they were English they wouldn't get picked as our options are better.

I haven’t watched Belgium and Denmark game that much but maybe they have better players around each one that mitigates for their weaknesses. We’ve just been the basket case of lining them both together as our defenders which is asking for trouble

The same questions been asked by Belgians and Danes in a lot of what I read over the most recent international breaks

First goal is very poor marking from him.

Similarly to what Kristiansen is criticised for the second goal, he looks twice at Merino before the cross comes in, then for some reason points to Soumare (?) to mark him even though he'll have to cover Trossard behind him.

Why is he passing the responsibility on to another player? That seems his default thing to do.

He’s a real problem for us.

Ruud seemed to understand this and dropped him when he first came in but for some reason has now gone back on that understanding and I’m not sure why.

Faes is very often doing something poor when you look at goals we concede. Even if not an obvious mistake, he’s often out of position or has switched off or has made a half-hearted attempt at something.

Vestergaard and Coady lack pace and are by no means world beaters but I’d sooner have either of them in the XI than Faes. I’d happily see him never wear the Leicester shirt ever again. Absolute clown.

Yep that first goal could have been prevented. He needed to take ownership of that situation and make merinos life difficult. As a senior player he should be able to sniff out danger and take charge

Arsenal were average by their standards in the game. That goal could have been easily prevented

The fact that he rates himself is enough warning that he's thick as mince. A poor player with a terrible attitude, who doesn't want to be here. Just stick him in the reserves please!
