It's just after world cup final so some teams may be forced to rotate, depending on how many players they're missing.

If Belgium make it to the final, we miss Youri, Castagne and Faes.

Not sure what the statutory break is, so even if teams make the semis we may be missing quite a few.

Is there a statutory break? They don't get one when any other international break happens mid-season. I thought the statuary break was so they were guaranteed time off between seasons. I don't see any reason for players not returning directly to their clubs (of course, managers might want to give them some rest, but that's a decision made after all games.)

I like the draw, but my only concern is that League1 and 2 teams start playing again after WC group stages, so will be in a rhythm. Of course, Dons are right above the drop zone (for the moment), so might not want to risk their first team on a League Cup tie they will probably lose in any event. That being said, I expect some shock upsets in this round, and hope it's not us.

I also expect there will be one or two behind closed door matches before the restart to get the team fighting fit (not to jump on a soap box, but they could've organised a couple of high profile friendlies against European clubs in the same boat...I would've watched.)

But given the expected allocation and the proximity, I might actually try and get to this one!

Shameless self-promotion: I am hosting a pub quiz at the 1852 Brewery Co. in Wigston on Sunday Nov. 13 at 8pm. C'mon down.

Good point on the statutory break. I don’t think there is one you know. $$$ at the end of the day. But the final is on the Sunday, so any players making it will defo not be playing midweek cowabunga cup, prob lucky to be playing Boxing Day the following Monday!

I recall quite a few clubs have organised friendlies in the run up to the restart, abroad of course, $$$$$.

You would think mk dons will take the money and run here. TV game, increased ticket prices (£27.50 away fans..) and not really bothered about the result

Given we are probably going to be one of the 3 TV Games (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) when do we think they’ll shove us on? lol nailed on Thursday for me lol

Unlikely ours will be televised. I reckon:

Man CIty vs Liverpool

Man U vs Burnley

Blackburn vs Forest

Folly to talk about who you'd want to play in the latter stages but it would be very special to put the likes of Forest and Newcastle to the sword in the semi's and final especially in such a disgraceful season as this has started.

Say what you like about us and Brendan but we have been adding invaluable experience both in success and in defeat in the latter stages of Europe and domestic cups for a long time now. I really hope we can seize the opportunity if it opens up for us.

Very fair stance. I just really fancy this, especially with the huge allocation and after the long break without domestic footy.

Yeah, I'll have mates going to it and no problem with that. Just a personal choice.

I don't really understand the experience thing. We should be reaching the latter stages of these cups with the talent available though. Based on the Roma game, any of this experience you mention was absolutely no use at all.

Then again I've never bought into the fact that players need to experience playing the same game in different competitions. It's a game of football at the end of the day. I don't even think the "European experience" thing holds much weight now that players basically fly in hotels these days.

There are so many different managers, players and approaches to the game in the premier league. I'm not sure it matters what compeition you're in, every player will have experienced pretty much everything they could possibly experience in a match. (Aside from squirrels running on the pitch, but Nuge handled that magnificently :D )

Win this and we'd have completed the full set in England in the last 8 years

We've already completed the full set in the last 23 years!

(amusingly ... until this season, we had won the full set since Forest had last kicked a ball in the Premier League)

I think what I meant was, if we come up against the likes of Newcastle or Forest in the latter stages of cups - we've autonomously already been in such stages so many times that although there's ample chance of us fluffing our lines, we've a fair few successes at such stages to draw upon. That implosion can come at any time under pressure but its even harder to ride without anything to draw on in the past, that win away at PSV last season was just phenomenal given the way the 1st half had gone, against a team who seldom ever lost at home and on the back of such a horror show when it control of a game at the same stage in the Carabao vs Liverpool.

I would like to agree but my grandson as never been and I am trying to complete as many away grounds for him,

the only money we will spend is the ticket nothing in or outside the ground

My point was that the managers will likely use the best available players.  Which probably makes playing a team now harder than it will in the next round.

A few key players might be missing or on breaks but as you mentioned we will be missing a lot as well so it was good to avoid a good team.

I think even if belgium reach the quarters their players won’t be involved. i think i heard they will be giving them a 2 week break after if possible.

I mean I wouldn't punish local traders outside, they're just doing what any good business would do and attaching themselves to somewhere with heavy footfall. Inside the ground fair enough!

I think it was mainly a case of us having to go for broke and being a fitter and stronger team. The Liverpool game we had something to lose and Brendan cacked himself against Liverpool reserves and went into defensive mode.

I dare say if we took a 1-0 lead into the half time against PSV that Rodgers would have put the fear of god into the team.

Possibly but we I thought we defended admirably vs Rennes when they launched wave after wave of attacks in the round before and I'm not convinced Iheanacho was offside for the goal that got disallowed that would have put us 2-1 up on the night and 4-1 up on aggregate.

The most accomplished cup performance in the latter rounds was Man Utd in the QF's when we won the FA Cup. Total and utter domination.

Agreed on the QF. Most of my favourite performances under Rodgers have been against Oles Man U team lol
