We can't expose him in the first team till he's signed a contract extension.

Seriously worrying it's up next summer.

Get it done now.

I’d imagine he’s basically waiting for some game time that will push his wage/asking price up. I wouldn’t worry too much.

I think it’s naive not to worry

we’ve lost very decent mid teen prospects already past few seasons

Do you think maresca hasn’t marked the chelsea recruitment department’s card on him and a few others here ??

but if the kid is being advised to see out his deal here then we do need to expose him because that will get his price up at tribunal.  Infact, a bidding war in January would likely deliver a bigger fee for us than him walking away next June.

Got a build like a top level player now hope to see lot more of him

This is the one thing that worries me. In the Beckham documentary there’s a section on when he built extra muscle for aesthetic purposes and it messed with his biomechanics and performance. Let’s hope the bulking up that Alves has done is purely functional.

As long as he doesnt build his muscle past his current level he should be fine, he still looks fully mobile.

I think it's a risk we have to take that we use him and the vultures will circle and be in his agents ear to join them next summer. We'd be in for compensation that would be at least £5-10m based on what some academy players go for without much 1st team football.

If anything it would be better to play him in the 1st team to increase that if he were to leave. However, I suspect if we are serious about using him this season then he'll sign a new deal.

If he does well this season, I’m sure we’ll throw one of our famously massive contracts at him. No need to worry!

I definitely agree you can put too much on I think he looked sharp strong and quick still more like a Ronaldo shape

Why do people think his contract tract runs out next summer? All I can find in the media is that his expiry date is unknown and other players that were given a new contract at the same time as him such as Braybrooke and marcal both finish in 2026 not next summer

Could be an important impact sub this season, hopefully more. Its a pity he couldn't be involved last season, but there's definitely a pathway to first team action here -- especially in our current situation.

Not sure how much of a part this has to play in professional football, but he is a Leicester fan. We saw it a certain extent last season with KDH and his decision to stay.

He has plenty of time in his career for greed, and he might decide that the next few years are for him to live his childhood dreams (and for any Leicester fan, that would be to become a regular starter for the club we love).

Given the injury he suffered, I would fully understand that the kid could be in a hurry. childhood dreams are one thing but a big contract will sort him out for life.  I know what I’d be doing and it would be where I’d play the most at the highest level I could coupled with earning the most dosh.

Bang on. A good example was Lukaku when he went to Man Utd. At Everton, he seemed leaner (if that's the right word) and thus more mobile. At Utd, he hit the gym hard, and that coupled with nobbing about with Paul Pogba, seemed to really hamper him. Of course, it wasn't just that, playing for a basketcase of a club didn't help either!

I’m big into sticking generally too your natural body size too obviously shape it up a bit towards an athlete build but if someone like Cole Palmer bulked up a ton his body clearly isn’t designed for it

I think we get too obsessive about size in England. I remember seeing David Silva and being amazed at how tiny he looked, like a 15yr old. Even the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, Bernado Silva are like 5'7" and built like weeds. What Alves needs, is to play some 1st team football, which should be doable in the CAM role.

His last contract extension was back end of the summer of 2022. Braybrooke and Marcal have signed additional extensions since then.

Ah OK thanks I couldn't find anything on it other than the one he signed in 2022 but it dosent say when that ran too in the article that I saw

Yeah it doesn't state how long the contract was for, I'm not sure if at that age the max is 3 years which takes it to 2025 which is the rumoured expiry. Would be a relief if it was 5 years and he still has 3 years to go.

Indeed. The best player in the world, in recent years, one Leo Messi, is a veritable pipsqueak. It's not hindered him.

Leicester City door open for Will Alves as Steve Cooper makes admission
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder will be hoping for second appearance of the season when City head across the Midlands to Walsall for the Carabao Cup third round

The door is open for Will Alves to play his way to Leicester City game-time as the teenage starlet bids to be involved at Walsall on Tuesday night (7.45m kick-off).

Attacking midfielder Alves, one of the best prospects coming through City’s academy, made his first senior appearance in more than 18 months in the last round of the Carabao Cup, coming on for the final 20 minutes in the 4-0 win over Tranmere. As City head to the West Midlands for the third round, he will hope to get another outing.

He’s more than capable of earning himself an opportunity, Steve Cooper has said, even with Facundo Buonanotte, Bilal El Khannouss, Jordan Ayew, and others to choose from in the number 10 slot. The manager insists that performances in training will see the 19-year-old get a chance, just as is the case with every other player in his first-team squad.

That’s especially because Alves did not go out on loan. While many of his peers, like Ben Nelson, Sammy Braybrooke, and Chris Popov, headed out for senior experience, Alves stayed put, with Cooper suggesting City were not willing to let him go to the wrong club.

“He’s part of what we’re doing,” Cooper said. “It’s on everybody to play their way into the right side of decisions. We really like Will. He’s a good young player.

"We have a strong programme for him. It might have included a loan for him, but if it did, it had to be right for him. I’d rather him stay with us than go on a loan that I didn’t think would be right for him. We’ll continue to work with him, and he can work himself into the right side of decisions. It’s the same for everybody.”

If Alves does feature, or if Luke Thomas, Hamza Choudhury, Kasey McAteer or any other academy graduate gets onto the pitch, it will restart the run that City gave up last time out. After 147 straight games of at least one City academy player featuring, a run of nearly three years, none played in the 1-1 draw with Everton at the weekend.

Choudhury was on the bench though. That means City have included at least one academy player in their matchday squad for all of their last 286 games.
