Methven was great as always. Says basically everything I can think but with multiple times the knowledge and experience while being very articulate. He was spot on about our signings. They aren't really cutting their cloth.

 

I think this takeover process will last years unfortunately. I think their value is always going to be way higher than reality. It's reflected in what they ask for for players as well. They're still bothered about accounting loopholes rather than cold hard cash when the latter is what they need more now. You can just see a scenario playing out where we're top of the league this season and he reconsiders things. Didn't someone on here post something along these lines the other day - he was thinking about it after the first relegation (correctly) then as soon as we started well he changed his mind again. It's all emotion driven. Like a gambler.

It's nuts given how much money they've put in over the years (even if spent badly for the last 5 or so) and what it was worth 4 years ago, but if you're buying the opportunity to lose £20mn a year I kind of get why they are so comically low.

Hard to do a comparison but Sunderland went for £40m in a similar situation

The stadium is valued at £44m on last accounts but your market value is lower as a purchase asset because it has a defined use. Similar applies to Seagrave. You’d have to spend a significant amount to repurpose both uses of land.

we also still own Belvoir Drive, that should also be added to the valuation of the club

We own the lease hold for Belvoir Drive, not the freehold. Again significantly affects the valuation of the land. YMCA outright own the land.

The ideal scenario is that we are taken in the near future by someone who is insanely wealthy and is prepared to meet the valuation and take on all of our debts because they're a bit daft and having ambitions of taking us back to a level of success again as some sort of vanity project. That is not a likely scenario. It's not entirely beyond the realms of possibility because people that get involved in owning football clubs are often a bit mad, as there are much safer investments they could make, but even then, it's still not likely. 

 

The next best scenario is that we get promoted and someone is prepared to offer us closer to the valuation and the club is sold with us in the championship. 

 

I do share your concern though. Even if we are promoted, I am concerned that Aiyawatt is gonna either try hanging on thinking he has turned it around, or will up the valuation because we will be in the championship.

Massively impacted by the cost of running Seagrave when at a level that income is massively over shadowed by costs. We are haemorrhaging tens of millions a year including the £10m + in interest on loans.

 

I really think our fans are in for a rude awakening.

 

I still do think we have our recent history that goes in our favour so someone looks past the state of us thinking they can correct that and then benefit from the assets we have but can't see that being for £100m + to Top and then take on the debts and the possible litigation issues with Leeds. 

 

We are in essence begging for someone reckless to buy us and then not be reckless when they own us, another obstacle.

one basic thing they should have done by now is move the women's team into Seagrave and get whatever money they can for Belvoir Drive, it would also reduce costs and we wouldn't be running 2 training grounds

As above they can’t just sell Belvoir Drive, YMCA have the freehold of the land and there’s a number of covenants on the land. Perfect example of how poorly educated the ownership is

That would be the lucky outcome. The rumours that we have a local businesses interested are encouraging as that makes me think that is probably a fan of the club who might do what Clowes did with Derby if things get really desperate.

 

You would think by pure market force that even if we are promoted he might still be forced to sell, so you are right.

 

He was spot on about our transfer business. It's a tough balancing act because we do need to get promoted but I still think we're playing quite a risky game. I bet Chaplin and Cullen are both on not even bottom half Championship wages. I still think going for 21-25 year olds with a year left on their contract in League One / upper League Two is probably the least risky way we can do this.

Great pod, Methven just makes everything make sense, but he’s been there, so he gets it, he can tell us exactly how it is…..

 

Truths are, no one is buying us until we’re at least in the championship, and have cleared the debts…. Unless they’re not bothered about the finances, and value us as an asset over the finances. 
 

What is clear, is “the family” aren’t backing this football club, and haven’t for some time.

Great pod and Methven is a really interesting listen. 
 

Interesting/ worrying that he suggested the club probably think they’ve done a good job cutting costs etc but are still no where near where we need to be!!!
 

Also we know Top is a gambler, and you get the sense in the business we’ve done so far that they have made some effort to reduce costs, whilst simultaneously spending on “proven” players in the hope of bouncing straight back and therefore Top/ KP achieving a reasonable sale price. Which feels like a massive gamble, that we have to promote this season, otherwise we could be in all sorts of trouble next year….
