Vardy is on 140k p/w at present.

Even if he has a maximum (reported) relegation clause of 50%, he'd still be on 70k p/w. By this season's standards, that would still make him the highest paid player in the Championship.

This expenditure, for someone who's about to turn 37 in January, seems absolutely wild and unless he opts for an additional pay cut himself, I personally think we need to try to terminate his contract.

I have no doubt that he will score a good few goals in the Championship, but we have no room for sentimentality and we certainly can't afford to have any passengers, or extremely highly paid players constantly in our medical room.

Man City have been excellent at dealing with the brutal reality of professional football - Aguero has a statue outside their ground, but they didn't offer him a new deal because they knew that he wasn't offering what he once could.

Vardy is probably our greatest ever player, but on those wages, we can't afford to let him stay.

Can't believe I found out he's paid £30k a year and it's a full time job.

Always assumed it was some beer swelling thug who'd been given £30 on match day.

I used to know who guy who was Filbert, going back a few years now. I don’t think he was paid £30k pa! More like hourly paid I would imagine. I would have thought things like this will be cut back to something like hourly paid. It’s pretty wasteful really.

There’s lot of chatter on here about keeping Mendy and Iheanacho - and I agree. Interestingly probably the two players who have been treated the worst here, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she took the opportunity to jump ship.

I don't know.

But hasn't this been dealt with in "Championship Starting XI", "Who would you keep" and various other aftermath threads?

Kind of, but this is more a "left on the shelf" rather than "want to keep" thread.

Don't say it to loudly cuts will be made, that's the plan for next season.

The devastation on the face of Kelechi and his tone, the way he spoke about the future and fixing this mess tells me he’s here for the long haul even though, in my opinion; having been treated appallingly by Rodger’s, our club allowing that to happen and despite him deserving better.

We should be aiming to rebuild the team around his strengths, he’ll get us back into the premier league. Especially if we manage to keep Ricardo fit, get big wilf back on form too.

Letting the heart cloud the brain is what’s put us in this mess, we should be getting rid of Vardy, madders, castagne, Barnes etc before it’s too late. We can only really afford to keep iheanacho at a push

Will all still be here in my opinion.

Really hope this is the case, if so, im really confident we will smash the league.

A few question marks over some in there but don't think you'll be far off.

I don't care.  They can all sod off as far as I'm concerned.

I've never felt so disgusted by a group of players. They should be marched through the streets with their trousers around their ankles and told to keep going.

Would rather play the under twelves.

Maybe filbert has a relegation clause.   How much does Birch get?  Dies he have a relegation clause.

Thing is we can’t get rid of everyone. Otherwise we leave ourselves with an impossible task. So the club will decide ultimately who stays and who goes up for sale. The players can’t really do anything.

Those who are under contract and will be able to contribute I think they will keep. Those who are under contract and we can make a good profit off they will sell.

As much as we need a mass overhaul, we can’t leave ourselves with too much work to do, otherwise we will end up in a mess.

And why would (or should) Vardy agree to that - especially with his Mrs legal bill to pick up

A lot of people saying nacho, that would be great but there is a not a chance he stays. He will have offers from all over.

only players I think will stay are:

ward

iverson

souttar

kristiensen

thomas

jj

hamza

kdh

albrighton

vardy

realistically some of them could leave also

Hopefully Iheanacho as I think he’d do similar to Mitrovic for Fulham

If we managed to hold on to him I'd be so much more confident about a return to the Prem.

Think he'd bag goals.

The ones I think will go will be

Tielemans (confirmed)

Maddison

Barnes

Praet

Soyuncu

Bertrand

Evans

Amartey

Vestegaard

Soumaré

Mendy

Meaning that, based on who we have left and rumours, a starting XI on the opening day might be

Iversen

Souttar

Faes

Kristiansen

Thomas

KDH (c)

Braybrooke

Chair

New CM

Daka

Iheanacho

Lighter in midfield than I'd like, and we'll need to get a lot of depth with even fringe players leaving the club, but that back four will be plenty good enough in the Championship and that attack line could be nothing short of brutal with the right service.

This would be an amazing situation but can’t really see Daka or faes staying. As for nacho,  not a chance in hell does he stay, he will offers from all over, defo be gone.

We're not going to have everyone go. We're likely to lose eleven or more players, including our two most valuable and team captain, as it is and take a chainsaw to the wage bill just through expiring contracts.

Very possible that we lose one of Daka or Iheanacho granted, but I don't think we'll sell both as there simply won't be the need with the money brought in through transfer fees and saved from the wage bill. In essence, we'll need the players more than we'll need the money from selling them.

I don't have an issue with Danny Ward at all that so many others do, but probably the right time to let him go if we can get a few million for him. Keep Iversen number 1 and put the young kid who went out on loan as deputy.

Defence wise I'd imagine all the Belgians to leave as they want to start for the national team. I'd be tempted to offer a 1 year contract to Evans on cut back wages with the eye on him coming into the coaching set-up. Leaves Ricky P, JJ, Thomas and the Danish kid as full backs and Souttar, so we have a problem there. Can see someone waiting for xmas to judge JJ's fitness before coming in as well btw

Not sure Mendy will stay, been treated poorly by the club, despite form recently Ndidi should get bids and wages he's on doubt we can keep him. Cash in on Barnes, does my head in running into defenders and having no idea who he's picking up going backwards. Probably be left with Hamza, Albrighton, KDH and Soumare (if a french team don't come in for him)

If we keep Nacho and Daka, they'd both score a bucket load but can we afford them? Vardy, he's done I'm afraid, he was getting caught offside as it is and a year later and a division lower he'd just spend all game arguing with the linesman. How we deal with him for the best though is another matter, could we keep him for 30% of the matches and still pay him £70k a week if he takes half a pay drop? That's a problem I'm pleased I don't have to deal with
