Aston Villa are backed by extremely wealthy owners who have ambitions to get into the Champions League. Their points total last season after Emery's appointment was in the top 4 of the league.

Tielemans is signing a 4 year contract there, so it seems like a sensible decision to showcase himself at a rising club in European competition, before either playing on with them should they make it to the highest levels or moving on again at 28/29 with 1 or 2 years left on his contract.

Edit: He's still a fat lazy git.

I’d like to see Soumare in a midfield that can actually run, he’s looked half decent when he has someone like KDH in there. Putting him in there with Tielemans and Ndidi was a disaster because he’s arguably the more mobile of the three- and that’s still not great. Can’t say I’ve thought he looked half assed on the run in, more just physically limited because of those around him. Either way I doubt he will be here next season.

This reminds me of an incident in one of our last games. The ball is a few yards away from Youri and he starts gesticulating to Soumare to get the ball and give it to him, even though he's closer to the ball with nobody marking him.

Yes, because the "big 6" will pick apart any team that starts to actually achieve something. Just look at Brighton already losing Mac Allister. Makes it all seem a bit pointless really.

Yes I mean numerous teams have tried to shake up the big boys. (Blackburn, Leeds, Newcastle and more recently West Ham and Brighton)

We have been the most successful and also inspired others to try.

But like you say it's a bit of a concrete ceiling

The chipmunk will play well until Xmas then go into his usual hibernation and put on some condition.Thereafter Villa will work out that their midfield lacks energy and commitment . He can pass but he cannot hide.

Why waste energy on this loser. Thank you for your part in the FA Cup win but nowcget to ****! hopefully we get players who want to play for this club and make it better. The minute we started buying and keeping players who thought they are bigger and better than us is the moment we failed.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to move there, too, on a free transfer as well.

Forgotten about him as a player; hasn't played many games over the past few seasons?

I thought that was quite optimistic considering we don't yet have a manager or even know who will make up the squad.

Well that's my point exactly, no opinion can be formed, so why have a negative one?

174 pages of people not quite understanding the following:

This is a sideways step from when he refused to sign a new contract with us not from the current situation which is, of course, an upwards step.

A lot changed in the last 6 months, and in football that's like a lifetime. Villa under Emery are clearly ambitious and they have the makings of a squad to challenge for the top 4. I'm sure Youri was sold on their project and probably was told he would get regular games. He might not even have to move house which is a factor no one seems to consider. A few months ago he wouldn't have thought of going there but fans need to realise Villa and us have swapped places from 3 or 4 years ago when they were useless and we were a good side.

It is still, in my opinion, a sideways step from we’re we were. We’d just won the FA Cup and had two 5th place finishes. They are a good team in a good place but I would very very highly doubt they make top 6 next season. Even if they did, it’s still a sideways step.

I do find it surprising that Villa have announced agreement but absolutely nothing from Tielemans side. I’m not doubting that they have an agreement in place but given the sort of person Tielemans is, could this turnip be waiting for another “better” offer to come in before signing ? I wouldn’t put it past him, he has very little class. I actually think it could be hilarious.

That’s just talksport spouting nonsense, a midfield of Kamara, Luiz, Tielemans, Mcginn, Ramsey, Dendoncker is stacked enough.

Where ? It must be his story rather than the main page. Ok, stand corrected.

Hello all  Villa fan here first and foremost it’s disappointing to see you guys go down it furthers validates that Premier League is corrupt following your title win there was absolutely no way in the eyes of the premier league hierarchy and scum 6 that any team would be allowed to burst the bubble again and you got cherrypicked year after year which inevitably only ends one way it happened to us During the MON years and it’s happening now to Brighton. Hopefully you bounce back up and get that next managerial appointment correct.

I’m curious to understand what went wrong with Tielemans this season? Was it a case of him downing tools or disillusion of losing top players not strengthening the squad and a egomaniac in Rodgers at the helm? I know from my experience as a Villa fan how players can appear to down tools just look at the state of our club when Gerrard was in charge it’s easy to blame the players but sometimes bad form is a combination of lacking confidence and poor management , was this the case with Tielemans?

No way a sideways step. European football and in the premier league with a massive salary increase and signing on fee.

It's a step up in every single way.

So in other words what he'd have gotten here when he downed tools and started agitating for a move

Don’t think anyone has the golden bullet answer for you there - it was just this season either, it’s probably 18 months. Take a look at his error at PSV. Just hasn’t appeared fit enough to move around the pitch successfully.

He wasn’t great at the World Cup and his form didn’t pick up under Smith. Just loves his roast spuds too much

That more or less i a description tha villa fans used of John Mcginn pre Emery now he’s probably the first name on the team sheet.
