What does this matter?

Players don't look at where clubs were two years ago. They live in the present.

Villa are on the up, with a seriously good manager and in Europe next season.

We're in the Championship.

I maybe misreading, but I think beepee was suggesting that youri should have resigned two years ago.

And in a worst position than we were 2 years ago which is when he decided he was better than us.

The club and youri signed a four year contract.   If in that time  say last year  the club wanted to sell him then he had the right to continue here and hold the club to its contract.  Similarly he had the right to see out the contract agreed by the club and then move on.

Imo you will see more and more players run down their contacts and so move on with a big signing on payment or much higher wages as their new cky  has not had to pay a transfer fee.  This moves the transfer money to the player.

The club , lcfc, will of course have foreseen this possibility and were happy with it.

There’s a lot of ‘good riddance’ type posts on here and I understand it. Going to Villa is very underwhelming.

BUT, from where I’m standing, we can’t shout too loud. At present, we have no manager and half a squad!

Im just happy Tielemans has gone anywhere, frankly, as it frees up some wages.

But, City need to get their arses into gear. The start of the very challenging Championship campaign isn’t that long off and we look to be in a mess.

Ps. Odd that the club had so many players out of contract at once.

But its not that these players thought themselves to good... eg smarty will now receive big fees for moving to turkey... it's about maximising their money.

One more thing, players and their agents are not aligned.... players want to play and attsi  glory, agents want money.  Eg. Drinkys agent is well please with his time at Chelsea... I expect drinky is not so pleased.. but has more money

Don't worry.

Once the Board finally wake up from looking at the table and realis we ARE relegated they will kick into gear.

Rudkins currently on holiday for a few weeks so he will sort it all out a week prior!!!

Sad for youri that he couldn't kick on and attract a cl club.  He needs to push on now at villa for a big move in 2 years.  Good luck to him... our focus is elsewhere

I won't lie, it's a bit rough seeing this.

Not because I particularly care about Youri Tielemans and what he does, but it's such an indictment of where our club is that our players are leaving for a club which not that long ago would've been considered a backwards step given our success.

Villa acted quickly and appointed a top tier manager that has transformed them. They're a big club that are quickly getting back to where they should be and now they're an attractive proposition.

Our club allowed the rot to set in and did absolutely nothing. I'm still absolutely seething at our fvcking dickhead board.

This is so true. Shows how important it is to get it right now. Get it right and we may bounce back, cock it up and years of championship and even lower football may await. Currently I dont trust the club to get it right.

Top is the backseat and Rudkin is at the wheel total disaster.

not sure if anyones commented to his wage but it was leaked at €5m a year that’s only about £83k a week …. which is almost certainly less than we offered 😫

I'm sure I saw a tweet saying that was £5m after tax.

Think that's more like £150k-£160k a week. Think only Vardy is on more than that here.

Hard to believe that when the queen popped it, we were about to play villa in el sackico. Villa act and get emery + conference league football, we wait 7 months and get a £4 haircut, relegation and a choice between wing commander Scott parker and a Belgian underwear model.

At any sensibly run club heads in the board would have rolled by now. Unfortunately our owner is a nepo baby and the biggest culprit plays him like a puppet

I genuinely loved Youri to pieces.

I've been going down since Filbo and thought myself beyond having a 'favourite player' but Youri inspired that schoolboy glee in watching football. For eighteen months he had me wishing I was playing number eight for City. He made me excited to see him.

But those couple of seasons refusing to sign a contract and ending up moving sideways. It ****ing stinks. He left us in the gutter and did so knowing he'd be alright. His behavior has been, if not unprofessional, apathetic and serpentine. What a character arc.

I can't imagine, as man, being the starman of a city only to let them down when it really mattered. But then I take pride in what I do and I don't find comfort in my pay or my status. It matters to me who I am not where I am. I'd have put in a shift out of pride and obligation. He didn't bother out of comfort and carelessness.

For shame, Youri.

Even if it is before tax, £5m a year works out around £96k a week. Means he’s earning an extra £61k a week compared to his contract with us (according to Spotrac).

Money talks.

Villa fans I know are happy with this so obviously they haven't watched a lot of his games over the last 2 years.

They are the same fans asking me if we would have stayed up had we stuck with Rodgers.

Good luck Youri and hope you do well:wave:

Zero chance he was on 35k a week here

I can't quite pin down this guys personality and attitude, and I have mixed emotions, some days he was absolutely unplayable, a genius with a lethal strike from distance or a reverse pass.

He then just sank instead of showcasing his talent, ultimately that's cost him a major move. I think the bubble will burst quite quickly at the Villa and we'll soon see sulky Youri again refusing to sign a contract.

His big move isn't happening. Its obvious to anyone with half a brain thats been watching for the past 2 years that he is on the decline as a footballer. A lot of people on here are clouded by that goal and his early form with us but at no point in the past 2 years has he shown that he's a good enough player on a consistent basis. He isn't fit or physical enough and his decision making has been woeful.

This is his last big contract and he knows it. He's not magically going to reverse his physical decline and he won't even last 2 seasons at Villa before they are shipping him off to Turkey or Saudi on loan to get his wages off the books.

Tielemans actually only had one good season with us, yes there were purple patches at times but he wasn't really very consistent.  His time at Monaco was pretty poor, so out of the 6 seasons since he departed Anderlecht he's only had one outstanding full season.

I hope people at the club are hanging their heads in shame at not selling a prize asset 2 years ago,  all that nonsense about us not being a selling club anymore, as mentioned by Rodgers after the cup win, has royally screwed the club.  You can't keep players who want to move on, it creates problems in the dressing room.  Whoever listened to the snake oil salesman needs to fall on their sword.
