She's only 17 so might be a year or two yet.

not in the women's game they seems to come through much younger, some at 15 so I wouldn't be shocked it it happened this season

Yeah Ava Baker broke in at 16, Monique Robinson was 17, it's about the age to start looking at getting in and around it tbh

Wasn't this a few years back, though? Might be slightly different now - we have a much higher squad standard and playing at a higher level.

Baker made her debut in 2022.

OK, not that different. Having said that, this season's squad is in a different class to last years, so it might still be a bit tougher for a 17yo to break through.  Exciting though.

Foxes Fall To Narrow Bristol City Defeat In Pre-Season
LCFC WOMEN

Missy Goodwin and Aimee Palmer scored in a 3-2 friendly defeat to Bristol City at the Robins High Performance Centre on Wednesday afternoon.
ByMatthew Temple

Pre-season preparations continued for LCFC Women this Wednesday as they travelled to the newly-promoted side, who they will meet again at Ashton Gate on the opening day of the 2023/24 Barclays Women's Super League campaign.

After drawing with Manchester United, Leicester took on the Robins, and came from behind twice to be level at half-time, thanks to goals from Goodwin, and ex-Bristol City midfielder Palmer, but were ultimately beaten by a last minute Amalie Thestrup strike.

The game's first chance fell to City's captain Aileen Whelan, but after cutting inside, failed to hit the target, and on the half-an-hour mark, the hosts took advantage when Emily Syme picked out Abi Harrison who converted from close range.

The Foxes responded immediately when Goodwin broke through and fired an effort high into the roof of the net beyond 'keeper Fran Bentley, but once again, Willie Kirk's side found themselves behind in the first half.

A free-kick, from about 25-yards-out, was hit convincingly by Megan Connolly to restore the Robins lead, but there was one more turn of events to happen in an action-packed first half which saw the scores level at 2-2.

Former Robins captain Palmer, who joined the East Midlands Club this summer ahead of Leicester's third consecutive season in the WSL, also scored a free-kick, finding the bottom corner, clipping the post on the way through.

Throughout the second half, both teams saw chances, with Thestrup forcing some strong saves out of Demi Lambourne, with new German striker Lena Petermann also coming close to finding the goal herself when she rounded the Bristol shot-stopper but struggled to convert from a tight angle.

With just minutes left on the clock, the hosts found a winner when Carrie Jones, who spent last term on loan at Leicester from Manchester United, played through Thestrup to steal victory in a hard-fought pre-season battle.

Edging closer to the new campaign, season tickets for all of the Foxes' home matches at King Power Stadium are still available HERE - make sure to claim yours ahead of their first home match against Everton on Sunday 8 October (3pm BST kick-off).

Seems a bit odd playing against the same team we play in the season opener.

'We’ve Re-Energised The Group', Says Kirk
LCFC WOMEN

Willie Kirk is raring to get his first full season as LCFC Women Manager started, with a great deal of new signings at his disposal after a busy summer.

- LCFC Women have added six new faces so far during the transfer window
- The Foxes finished 10th in the WSL last season
- Season tickets for Leicester’s upcoming campaign are available HERE

The Foxes are in the midst of a lengthy pre-season, ahead of their third consecutive year in the Barclays Women’s Super League, after achieving safety on the final day of last term.

When Kirk took over, Leicester were at the foot of the table and without a point, before the former Everton manager overturned a 10-point deficit for the first time in top-flight history.

Now looking ahead to a first full campaign at the helm, Kirk has opened up about pre-season training at Belvoir Drive and feels excited about the upcoming games.

“It feels like the team is coming together in terms of getting our numbers in and getting the players back from the World Cup,” the Manager began. “With the new signings coming in and working on our physical condition but also our principles of play, it's been enjoyable to be back.

It's only been two windows and it feels like my squad, so that's positive.

Willie Kirk
“I think anybody who comes into Belvoir Drive can feel the positive atmosphere. You want energy around the place and that's what we've got. We've got a nice balance between our retained players, our new players, and across ages. It's just a really positive place to be.

“New players always freshen it up. The aim is to really freshen the group up this year on the back of the last two seasons and what we want to achieve on the pitch. But, just having those different faces around, re-energises the group off the pitch as well.”

This summer has seen a rebuild in City’s camp, with several new faces coming through the door, including Belgium's most-capped player Janice Cayman, along with Janina Leitzig and Courtney Nevin who made their moves to the East Midlands permanent following successful loan spells.

So many changes provide a chance to add new energy and attributes to the squad, and the 44-year-old was keen to commend the recruitment department within the Club.

He continued: “Any manager would tell you that when you take over midway through a season, that it's about getting through that season, hitting your early objectives and then really get to work in that pre-season spell that you've got.

Julie Thibaud
One of the Foxes' summer additions, defender Julie Thibaud, arrived from FC Girondins de Bordeaux.

“It's a really important time, certainly with the work we've done around recruitment, it feels like my squad, and I don't think normally you feel that as quickly. It's only been two windows and it feels like my squad, so that's positive.

“You know that the players that are in the squad are there for certain reasons in terms of their style of play, in terms of what we want to do on the pitch and in terms of positional attributes.”

During pre-season, the Foxes have gained valuable minutes in several friendlies against the likes of Manchester United and Bristol City, who they’ll face on the opening day at Ashton Gate, and Kirk is hoping to be ready to go come 1 October.

“We want to treat the final friendly of the season as the start of the season,” Kirk explained. “So we're aiming to be ready for that day, which is Liverpool at Belvoir Drive in a behind closed doors match.

An Exciting Season For The Foxes, Says Kirk
Willie Kirk believes LCFC Women are preparing well for their third consecutive season in the Barclays Women's Super League.

“The thing that's made us take that approach is that international break, which then follows that game. We feel that it would be a gamble waiting until after that international break where you've maybe only got three or four days with the full squad before the Bristol City game.

“All of our designs around what we're working on, why we're working on it and the physical levels as well are gearing up for that final friendly match.”

With less than a month of pre-season left, the former Bristol City manager stated his intentions and the team’s ambitions, as he looks to entice more Leicester fans to King Power Stadium this season.

“I think it's going to be an exciting season for Foxes fans,” Kirk added. “And hopefully an exciting way of playing, a way of playing that is about us and not necessarily about the opposition. Hopefully, all that comes together the way we want it to.

“It will give us points and that will put us in an exciting place in the league rather than going out in the last couple of games still sweating a little bit around the relegation spots.”

We keep signing attackers, yet we only have five defenders!

...we have looked toothless upfront, we took our chances when they came but we are not a team that creates many clear-cut chances!!!

It will be refreshing if we start to make better opportunities upfront as Missy Goodwin looks as if she is going to be someone we may struggle to keep, due to having the proper support behind her.

Foxes Triumphant In Pre-Season Test With Everton
LCFC WOMEN

LCFC Women beat Everton 3-2 in a pre-season friendly at Belvoir Drive on Saturday afternoon.

On the hottest day of the year so far, the high-pressing Foxes beat the Toffees thanks to first-half goals from forwards Lena Petermann and Shannon O'Brien, while a second-half strike from Sam Tierney proved the difference after a later surge from the Merseyside club.

I would expect to see a couple of defenders signed before the deadline of Sept 14

...I  was not expecting that!!!

The speculation was that it could be Manchester United as she did not wish to announce her new club whilst preparing for World Cup games.

This looks like a chance to earn a lot of money whilst in her prime. I am not sure how she would have coped defensively playing for one of the very top teams, her lack of pace was always a factor, but she did look impressive in transitioning the ball and that would be where she would be more suited as a central midfielder.

Manchester United!  She's barely WSL standard, nowhere near good enough for a UWCL club.  I was surprised her departure was announced so late as it implied there was a possibility of her staying when it was definitely time for the club to move on if they had any ambitions to progress.

On a more general note, the contrast in standard between the players that departed and those brought in is stark.  I'd still say 8th is probably the ceiling though.

She was a solid defender for us. Read the game well enough and good with her feet. Easily our best defender since we turned professional. That being said, unless you are a player on your last legs I have zero time for anyone signing for the Saudi's in their prime. You go there for one reason only that's to get a fat pile of cash which you choose over becoming a better footballer and your own supposed value system.

Fu*k em.
