He's been here for over three years and he's played 12 times for us in the top flight - on six years worth of contract at probably £3mil a year minimum.

Doesn't take a financial expert to find out how it's gone to shit here.

The fact Vestergaard’s behind Coady in the pecking order probably hurts him the most. This must be down to off pitch personality and leadership skills as Conor is at least as slow as Vesty and visibly isn’t as good on the ball or particularly dynamic in the tackle.

can't say anymore, and know a lot more than I can say, but Vestergaard is on the naughty step, he don't get on with cooper...

If there is one thing I feel like giving credit to Cooper  for ( and there’s not many things), it’s working out fairly early on that Vesty’s lack of pace would be found out in the prem.

It’s not even his pace, it’s how absolutely diabolical he is in the air which is genuinely astounding for someone of his stature.

That's fine but I genuinely don't s3e where the love for Okoli or the hate for Vestergaard is coming from Okoli hasn't impressed at all imo and Vestergaard was one of if not our best player last season and is putting in strong performances for Denmark at International level

I think Okoli looked poor on his first outing and took a few games to bed in. But he’s improved with every game and now looks a really solid CB to me

He's not as dominant as you'd expect someone his size to be but he's still our best CB aerially. If you're picking Okoli or Coady over him it's not because they're better in the air.

Yeh I’ve heard bits about a poor relationship between them both too.

I don’t think there’s any hate for Vestergaard, just by the looks of things early Okoli is a far better CB, especially in a two CB system.
Vestergaard is a limited footballer with some string attributes, but him and Faes together is not a good combination.

Right now, I think game by game Okoli is getting more comfortable and more reliable, I thought he was superb against Bournemouth.

I do feel a bit for Vestergaard having signed a new contract, but I really can’t understand the clubs thinking with a 3 year deal, especially with the likes of Ben Nelson coming through who will hopefully be a first team player for us within the life of that contract.

Vestergaard had a bit of a redemption last season, but you could argue he’s found his level. At the moment, he’s 4th choice here and we probably should be looking to move him on in January.

I mean that's fine I completely disagree I think Vestergaard is the best CB we have and Okoli hasn't at all impressed me.

Also it might not be now but there has always been a dislike for Vestergaard on this site stemming from when Rodgers refused to play him and it has led to him being held to a higher standard than others in our squad

Okoli & Faes are playing well together so unless one gets injured I don't see Vestergaard getting a Premier League  start. He looked good for Denmark playing in a back three but is suspect playing in a two with the fullbacks pushing forward. For me I think he should be moved in the Jan window with Ben Nelson being recalled for cover.

Think Okoli has done alright but the treatment of Vestergaard is harsh.

Ive said elsewhere, Okoli is very poor in the air and it will cost us.

Every CB has got their weaknesses, we can’t expect them to be the best in every attribute. Overal we’ve got 4 decent lower to midtable Premier League CBs all with some great qualities and some weaknesses to their game that may cost us from time to time, but if they didn’t have those weaknesses they’d be playing for a much bigger club than us.

Only 11 players can get on the pitch, so I don’t think it’s harsh to prefer one player over another. The competitive nature you want within a squad is if one players gets injured/suspended it should be tough for him to get back in the squad - that’s the sign you’ve got a bit of depth.

Having depth though, ultimately means when everyone is fit someone will eb left out of the squad.

Hence why with Buonanotte playing well and El Khannous on the bench Alves can’t get an sniff of a squad.
Over the season we will need everyone at some stage - just got to hope you can keep them happy in the meantime and match fit and ready to perform when they do come in.

I agree, and it’s clear Cooper has pissed Yannik off.

To develop into a Premiership quality CB Nelson needs game time, not to sit around providing 'cover'.

Not a chance this bloke is 'injured' by the way. Fully fit to play 180 minutes for Denmark but suddenly his ankle injury resurfaces. He has clearly had a falling out with Cooper, probably in a similar way to the rumours of Winks and has been placed on the naughty step.

I'm not having that he would be any worse than the defensive pairing at the back currently (1 clean sheet in 7, of which we could have conceivably conceded about 30 goals) and he can actually pass the ball out unlike the current pairing.

He will either go out on loan somewhere in Januarry or outlive Cooper and be back in the side by then. Think the team is actually quite well set up to play a 3 at the back given none of the full backs can actually, you know, defend, which he would be well suited for.

Reminds me of Soyuncu treatment by Brendan. Will be back in the squad immediately under a new manager but by then the damage may already be done

at least Soyuncu played well when he started with us to justify the outcry…

Vestergaard was our most succesful player last season (with other 180 mins) for aerial wins: 72.3% vs Coady's 66.7% and Faes 55.7%.

Very small sample numbers but this year Okoli has only won 37.5%.

I think Vestergaard just looks worse when he gets beaten because he's so tall.

dont think it’s fair to compare  stats of Vesty in the Champ with Okoli  in the prem..

Just dont rate Vesty as a PL defender and to me he represents the epitomy of our string of bad signings duirng these times. In the team we scored 9 against but we ended up signing him on massive wages. Crackers.

If you look at most teams in this league he’d be nowehere near their first 11
