There's no doubt he was poor last night and I like him as a keeper. I think his confidence was shuck when he was dropped for the first game and he was edgy last night.

 

I hope Martin points out his mistakes last night but plays him on Saturday because thats the only way to imrpove him.

Of course all goalkeepers make mistakes, just like all outfield players make mistakes, but it's the number of mistakes and the same mistakes that is the issue.

I'd actually say the cobbled together defence actually looked better than any of the so-called proper defences we've put out this season.

He may be the best but the goalkeeper position is one of our weak points.

And he cost West Ham 20 mil. Going round in circles for no reason here. We are a L1 club and cant afford the sort of transfer fee for keepers like Mads. Anyone we have or would look for would have limitations. The one we stick to has to have limitations that cause the least amount of issues overal.

I'm not, people are just missing the point, after the start of last season people were spouting how Jakub was as good as Hermansen. Which was my initial point.

Since his injury he's been shite. The bicycle kick he conceded against Charlton was as bad a save as any goal we have conceded since he left.

Again missing the point and ignoring the good performances he had at the end of last year for West Ham after forcing his way back in as number one

He's been really poor for a while, but he would benefit from actually playing and ironing out his mistakes in a more suited system for him.

 

Being back up to someone who is going to knock your confidence even more isn't ideal either.

 

We'd probably be better off just cashing in at this point and letting him play under a manager that gets him back to basics.

He was the lowest rated player in the Premier League in May. He may have been ok in February - March time when West Ham were in form and he didnt face many shots but he was a big reason why they went down last season.

 

If they don't replace him before the window closes they could do a double relegation like we did. Certainly won't be going up with him in net.

We’ve seen him play well, it’s just his confidence has been destroyed and he’s played for an ineffectual side for years. He's a good shot stopper but his technical flaws are more apparent and I think he needs to move back home to reset his career. Hyper short build up and  a physically-lacking team exacerbates his failings. Despite plenty of poor performances I don’t dislike him, unlike a lot of them.

 

I think if we had a well balanced side and had leant into being more direct and physical there is a word where he's maybe a lower PL keeper. When he first broke into the team he looked very capable, that could have been his flaws weren't known or targeted yet or it could be he was confident and enjoying himself.

Played 18 games and he's a big reason they went down  yeah not like he's won promotion before.

Imagine if Sven never signed Kasper. Lcfc fans under the age of about 35 wouldn't have seen a good goalkeeper play for their club.

I'm surprised Martin's not trying to train up an outfield player to play in goal as he knows absolutely **** all about goalkeepers

He's played McCarthy back into the team.

 

Our goalkeepers are going to cost us too often for us to get near to going up.

Whether we had to sell him or not, last summer people were claiming Jakub was as good as or better then Hermansen.

He's been edgy since he got injured last season, was superb at the start of it. 

His performances in goal, alongside Fatawu's wonder goals plus James' finishing were keeping us going in the top half. And then all 3 of those pillars fell apart for different reasons (James through injury).

I think Stol started well when he first came into the team (I was particularly impressed that, in comparison to Kasper, he was confident in coming out and claiming crosses) but like many of our players he seems to have lost confidence and that assertive quality.

 

 

 

Who can say whether he's been affected by the shite defence he's had in front of him from day one, or the insistence on him pissing about passing around the box (which doesn't come naturally to him), the coaching he receives, or whatever.

 

 

 

I still think there's a chance he'll regain his spark if Russell continues to play him and show confidence in him, and it will be helped if the defense can be solidified over the next few weeks.

 

 

 

At the end of the day, unless we get a new keeper in he's the best option we have currently and, given his compatative youth and the woefullness of our other options, he has the best chance of improving.
