Looking forward to the return. The great man deserves nothing less than a full kop tifo of an ostrich.

That would be worth seeing and hilarious.

Great manager for us but like it or not 2 managers since him have had more success here than he had.

For people to say it was 'ferguson-esque' calm down a bit it was nothing like it!

One of them won 2 trophies that we had never won before (not that he will be as loved as much as Nigel I agree)

For someone who headed the ball a lot during his playing career, he breaks the mold of most English Managers, he always comes across as articulate and quite intelligent......unless of course, the red mist descends on him, then we know what happens!

Its arguable neither would have had the success without the foundations Nigel built. It takes time to buid a club, and ethos, a mentality. Its never been Vichai that built the football team, he paid for it yes, but Pearson built it and eveything we were. Ranieri carried it on, Puel set a new direction, Rodgers benefited from Puels work and players, then cocked years worth of work up setting us back 10 years. What comes next on the rollercoaster?

Vardy, Kasper, Morgan etc

Brendan Rodgers only wins tinpot trophies without those legends. The longer he was around the more rot set in. Id say Puel in many ways was a better manager than Rodgers.

No he didn't. He put us in an horrendous position but didn't relegate us. The players did that.

I think Nigel cuts such messianic figure for many of us as it was him that effectively built the Premier League winning team

That's not to say we would have won it with him as the The Don still deserves huge credit but Nigel for many is the one

The winning streak started with the Great Escape though. He was onto something but you are right that then we just needed Kante and Ranieri to make it all happen.

Two trophies?

We hadn't won the FA Cup before but we had won the Charity Shield which was renamed the Community Shield.

Just the one as far as I'm concerned.

That depends on how you measure success.

One of those managers took us up two divisions, kept us up, and assembled a side which would soon outperform their modest pricetags to a greater extent than any other in history.

The next delivered an astounding title with that squad, before he failed to invest wisely and left us on the brink of the drop zone.

And the third you mention subsequently picked up a couple of top five finishes and an FA Cup, again with players mostly put together by others, but also failed to invest well. Resulting in one of the most unexpected relegations in recent top flight history.

Two of those records stand head and shoulders above the other, because they're the architects of one of the greatest achievements in sporting history. You can debate which of the two was more crucial; the ascent through the divisions and budget team-building under Pearson, or the delivery under Ranieri. But it's a hell of a stretch to elevate what Brendan achieved to that level, unless you're purely judging people on the status of their accolades, as opposed to the progress they achieved.

By that measure you could also argue that Brendan was more successful than O'Neill, Orr more successful than Hodge, Taylor more successful than Wallace or Adams - and so on - because they enjoyed a degree of success, regardless of the many caveats, on a higher rung of the ladder.

For how impressive NP's reign was and the great escape being an unbelievable achievement we were so poor for so long under Pearson that season! if anything he was lucky to still be in a job. We won 2 in 24 matches! respect to Vichai for keeping him in the job in the end but Christ he was lucky to still be about! Vichai is probably the only chairman in the league at the time that would have given him time to turn it around.

history will remember the trophies, 100 years time CR will be remembered as our most successful manager regardless of what others did before him.

when you look back at history you dont say well year looks at the England team in 1962 and say well they got to the quarters under Winterbottom so we have to give him some credit (even though they didn't qualify for the euro final in 64!)

Brendon will be remembered for bringing home our first FA especially after the loses in previous finals.

As i said he was impressive for us and did wonders at a strange time for the club but that's it. The love in some have is exaggerated.

Nigel reinvigorated my love for Leicester, very much like how Enzo is doing now. It’s easy to forget just how bad the years of dross we were served before our inevitable plummet to league one, and what a low ebb this/our/my football club was at. Pearson breathed life in to a club that was in steep decline. Look how long Leeds and Forest were stuck in league one. Then, after the Sven circus Pearson came back, riding on a silver steed and put in place the building blocks, ethos and personal that was the catalyst for what happened next. Nobody can change my mind on that. I have so much respect for him and I’ll always have a place in my heart for our Nigel.

He’s a man of integrity and in the world of football that’s a principle that’s in short supply. I’m looking at you Brendan

One of the biggest heroes in the long story of our club.

Saying that he is over-rated and is seen here as a Messiah. 3pts tomorrow please to send him away moaning.

He played for Boro didn't he? So that would be a pull for him I'd imagine.

Nige was the captain for Middlesbrough when we played them in the League Cup final and the replay at Hillsborough.

So many great memories and stories of Nige. My favourite is when he single handedly fought off a pack of wild dogs while mountain walking on his own in Europe.

After the Championship promotion, I went to the open top bus tour in town. We were stood outside the Queen of Bradgate at the top of High Street. As the bus drove past, Nige looked at us and did the drinking a pint hand sign and then applauded us with a big grin on his face.

The man is a legend.
