The Year Of The Fox

Sir Bobby Charlton

Recommended Posts

His thunderbastard against Mexico in 1966 is one of my favourite ever goals.

A wonderful footballer, and seemed to be an even better man.

The game and life in general, we're very different when Sir Bobby played.

He always seemed very humble.

Will definitely be missed.

Always came across as a humble and very decent old school gentleman.

In the liking of Sir Bobby Robson.

Not many people in general like these guys never mind in elite sport.

Hope he gets the respect he deserves.

To my my generation.

A shadow passed over England & the world tonight...

Only by coincidence I am still pushing my last & next month's.. but I one of the many English/UK sports generation that saw & accompanied   A TRUE LEGENDs career, a True gentlemen a true sportsman... a GENUINE sportsman.. A simply great footballer.

No waffle, no swash, the words 'Genuine legend' sticks for this man..

Any mention of football... 1950s,60s,70s,Eo-70s he belongs in that Football Bible..

I went to spend a year of my degree teaching in Eastern Germany, just after reunification, 1991 to 1992.

The bit where I ended up was was a bit of a backwater.  There were Russian soldiers still stationed in the town and locals there didn't  speak much English or have that much of an idea of Western Culture.

I got involved in a game of footy on the park and the local lads, when they found out I was English, the first thing said to me was "Ah, Engländer - Manchester United.  Bobby Charlton.  "

That they said that, 20 odd years after he stopped playing, is pretty impressive.

Some innings the man had.  :appl:

Yes.. A strange quirk, traveling lost & known far corners of this world....

From brightest to darkest areas..

Actual 50+ years of traveling and then associating periods of old & present names... CHARLTON & MOORE,Matthews, Beatles, Rolling Stones, seemed more than friends,or  family  steady aquaintances that followed me, even also to & through work places...
