Scored 18 last season & wants new challenge. Player targeting PL & admires #LUFC project, but not clear if reciprocated by club. Ex-Clarets skipper open to move abroad. This just has too many red flags for me. I'm convinced it's one of those we'd look at in a year and think it was a good move and look at in two years and think it was madness. We aren't going to get him on a reasonable deal, that seems to be precisely why he's left Burnley. 3

Jazzy_Jeff Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 (edited) It’s all hypothetical unless we know what he was on at Burnley. For all we know they were offering him £40k a week for 2 years and we’ve offered him £50k a week for 3. Wouldn’t be the worst deal in the world assuming we shift Wilf and/or Bouba. Worth pointing out that he is a year older than Wilf so if his salary is less and we get a fee for Wilf that’s good business imo. Edited 31 July 2025 by Jazzy_Jeff
RedSoxUK Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 One good season? Let's ignore his 4 goals In the PL the year before in the Kompany system. You would expect him to go to a Wolves, Everton, West Ham really as a squad player. Perhaps that's why we're the next best as he wants a better salary than Burnley offers (not hard, PL or not,) and to start, not hard.
kingfox Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 You can play Brownhill in a number of ways, and he’d certainly give us that box-to-box type option that I feel we’re missing. The issue though is age and contract, if that link is true, giving him a 3-4 year deal when he is close to 30, is partly why we’ve gone backwards in recent years, while if the best case scenario happens with being promoted, his history at Premier League level is pretty meh. I went on the QPR forum last night and found an interesting comment regarding their midfield. Last season they had Jonathan Varane, with Sam Field being used more as the box-to-box midfielder, they both give you legs in midfield and defensive nous, especially Varane who ranked as one of the best midfielders in the Championship for possessions won and interceptions. The only midfielder we have who posts similar numbers is Ndidi, but as we know, we can’t be playing Ndidi in a deeper midfield dictating role because his passing isn’t good enough. A Marti midfield seemingly requires legs and energy, someone like Brownhill would give us that, but partnering him up with Winks or Skipp, they just don’t have the defensive nous of a Jonathan Varane for example. 2
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 29, 30 in a couple of months we shouldn't really be looking at anyone over 25 generally in my honest opinion 4
EastAnglianFox Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 Rodger’s and Celtic all over this Move on, thankfully
AKCJ Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 I'm not massively against it provided it's not too long of a contract and that the wages are reasonable. 29 isn't the end of the world. He won't have a resale value but he'd come on a free so I don't think that's an issue for PSR. I think a 3 year deal has potential to be a good move. Wouldn't go for more than that though.

Pliskin Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 I don’t think he wants it, wants either a move to the PL or overseas. 1
FOXYTALK Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 Got to be a 2 year with a 1 year option. Otherwise walk away. 1

In an ideal world yes but you’re not getting proven player, who just rinsed the league for free at that age and we haven’t got a pot to piss in. This is a very good deal and one you’d be frustrated to see Wrexham or brum get makes sense to me. Even with large wages it will still save a lot of money for that elusive striker
fox_favourite Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 If it's not extortionate wages, I'd take him personally. He has something we haven't currently got in the middle and would improve our championship squad. Put it this way Brownhill or Soumare/Skipp?

pmcla26 Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 Just now, Jimmy said: does Brownhill give that or is he more of a grafter/box to box? Box to box. If we go aggressive with our press and get the creativity from our wide men (if we’re assuming Bilal goes) then it can work. KDH and Ndidi were far from creative as 8s but the system got us there for creating chances and attacking/overloading the right spaces. If Marti gets it right then it’s fine. Just need to negotiate a sensible contract…
Scotch Posted 31 July 2025 Posted 31 July 2025 9 minutes ago, Jimmy said: does Brownhill give that or is he more of a grafter/box to box? 24 goal involvements last season. The 22/23 season when they were in the championship it was 17 goal involvements. 19/20 he spent half the season on loan in the CH and got 7. The 2 or 3 seasons before that, he's pretty consistently getting 10. Questions can certainly be asked at a higher level but certainly at THIS level, he gets and creates goals. 1

From that I'd take him but I worry about blocking the likes of Page and Braybrooke if 3 from the other 4 aren't moved on, Page is still to sign his pro deal as well

The likes of Louis Page should be given his chance to prove himself but putting the pressure of being reliant on him performing for an entire season is unfair.

I'm not expecting them to e starters but I want to see them getting regular minutes off the bench, that won't happen if we have Brownhill, Hamza, Skipp, Winks, Ndidi and Soumare in the way I don't expect Hamza to be playing right back that much when the league season starts. If Page agrees to sign a deal then gets a good loan to league 1 then I have less of an issue signing Brownhill before we manage to move others on
