All of my childhood car day trips involved a packed lunch and the calor gas stove. No services and Costa in those days.. said days out were in the 1970's. My parents still have the stove and offered it to us for a recent trip.

We also had an electric heating element which went with us, along with a Pyrex jug on holidays abroad. No tea and coffee in the room in those days. But, Mum had her trusty tupperware of coffee and coffee mate.

Yes, I think it's called Food and Nutrition or 'Food Tech' these days.

My Mum was a secondary school Home Economics teacher back in the day :)

Reminded me of this film from 1959.

Some great but dated comments in the narration. My favourite is the girls learning all the skills to be good housewives.

Only watched the first few minutes lads on the lathes with not eye protection. Will watch the rest later.

Kids playing out.

I said this other day as I thought the same. Can't remember the last time I saw kids just playing football in the street.

We have a green space visible from our upstairs windows and I often see kids having a kickabout and others coming and joining in. The main kids have their own small goal as well. Makes me think all is not lost to computer games and the internet.

No photo description available.

The old Giro cheque that you had to wait in line for at the "unemployment office".

Or dole queue as it was known back then.

Try and tell kids today you only had 92p a week to live on, and they won't believe you.

But you could go out with two bob, drink 6 pints of mild, eat fish and chips and still have enough pennies for the bus home. (Except the last bus was 8 o'clock in those days).

May be an image of 3 people, hospital and text that says "I can remember going to the doctors with no appointment, no receptionist, just sat in a room with others. Doctor opened his door' Next" and we all sorted who was next between us. We'll never see the likes of that again, but we experienced it..."

You couldn't have a day off sick without a note from the Doctors which meant the above where people were coughing and sneezing spreading germs.

How is the arm now?

Sling is off, though this just makes it more painful. Limited amount of movement (can raise my arm to about 20 degrees from my body) lots of physio to come.

Before anyone says you don't see CDs anymore, I bought 5 last week.

From Our Price?

Just read they have actually relaunched. :jawdrop:

Used to avoid Our Price like the plague. Stores like that contributed to their own downfall.

Local, friendly and knowledgeable music stores are still around.

I'd been listening to music that was streamed or downloaded and was getting blasé about it all. Then one day I put an old CD on my dusty CD player and was blown away by the detail and clarity.

Screw streaming.
