So I live in North Carolina these days and I saw the Northern lights for the first time. A simple point and click with my iPhone.

 

 

im sure other people saw them last night  so feel free to share some photos if you did!

Missed them last night but luckily saw them in Iceland last autumn 

 

(Crap photo, I was driving so the wife took it :rolleyes:)

For fans of outdated cultural references like me (I mean I'm a fan of them, I've never been a cultural reference) there's lots of fun Day of The Triffids stuff going round.

 

I did love that book though

It just looks like clouds unless you’re in the arctic north but shows up on your phone camera in a way it doesnt to the naked eye. I’m sure it’s genuinely impressive if you see the real thing but the couple of times I’ve seen it I can barely make it out until I point my phone camera at it

I'm pretty sure we will see more geomagnetic storm-related fiction in future, given how much damage it can do to our digital society these days.

 

But on topic, it's a truly amazing phenomenon.
