An excellent team performance.


Really put in a real shift and played some very good football .

 

Now hopefully more of that v the Dutch .


Spain obviously not taking defeat well .

I don't really understand why Spain didn't get a penalty for the handball if I'm honest.  But I'm never able to keep up with hand ball rules.

Certainly was a nail-biter, going into extra-time.

Fantastic to see Oviedo back in the top flight, they have the better, bigger fanbase, the bigger stadium. What a journey from the depths of going into administration.

 

Have to say, though – the penalty looked a bit soft.

 

Now Santi Cazorla has to add another season. Legend. Always liked him, be it at Villarreal or Arsenal.

Haven't really been following this but judging by a lot of comments online it seems like Italians think there's been something of a stich up to keep Samp in B?

No easy answer really 
 

Brescia were deducted four points (originally), then eight and it seemed that way but they’ve subsequently gone pop. Some believe if Brescia stayed in Serie B without the points deduction then the money to keep them going woukd have been found.

It's tempting to get drawn in to that thinking, especially on internet echo chambers and with the dubious nature of Italian football in general.

 

But in fairness, it's hard to argue Brescia were always going to get a points deduction and Salernitana were granted their request to postpone the game after an outbreak of illness at the club. 

 

Neither Salernitana or Samp should ever have been anywhere near that end of the table and both have been grossly financially mismanaged, I can totally see why their fans would be furious in any case. But I don't really think I see an injustice, just a complete mess really.

Sounds familiar! Perhaps apart from the bit about furious fans as many of ours seem fairly content.

Does that mean Stade Reims stay in Ligue 1? Or will Dunkerque and Guingamp have to fight it out in another playoff fixture?

Certainly not the result we were hoping for.

 

Hopefully Phonzie will be fit for us when we do need him for the WC. Injuries are always a concern with him.

 

Anyway, no excuses. A draw against Curacao and losing to Guatemala(even if we were down a man) isn't good.

Giroud played a dozen seasons in England and Italy and never scored more than 16 league goals in a season, so yes he was not prolific.  He might score 4 in a row and then not score again for 15 games. He played more games for France than Henry, but they do have a similar goals per game record.   So no ‘mad disrespect’, good player, but just not a top striker.
