Because ‘he already did it’. firstly I don’t think Farage is the sort of person Starmer should be comparing himself to . He should be above that. Above him. Also, if people are saying Farage did something wrong then they are basically admitting Labour have too. Yeh but that is where the opposition, the sitting office holder, is at now. Less than two weeks pre election. 'They did it already so it's fine!!!!!' Hilariously incompetent running of a campaign. I am glad Starmer has not resorted to the 'they did it already' argument in relation to his sleaze being uncovered. At least I think and hope he hasn't. 1

I know it seems quite weird to non-politicos but this has been going on for decades and is perfectly legal as long as you’re not taking taxpayer funds to do it. I know quite a few political activists who have campaigned in American elections and have met Australians and Americans who have campaigned in UK general elections. My first boss was a former Tory MP who took a month off work to campaign for Barack Obama in ‘08. If they’ve used Labour Party funds to pay for stuff that’s a cock up but can’t see how it’s illegal.

davieG Posted 23 October 2024 Posted 23 October 2024 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1lg54y71r2o Officers on trial over shooting suspects to get anonymity Firearms officers facing trial over shooting suspects are to be given anonymity unless they are convicted, under reforms announced by the home secretary. Yvette Cooper's announcement comes days after police officer Martyn Blake was cleared of murdering Chris Kaba, who was shot in the head during a vehicle stop in Streatham, London, in September 2022. Cooper said there would be a "presumption of anonymity for firearms officers subject to criminal trial". The Home Office said later the right was still "subject to judicial discretion in individual cases". Cooper added the Kaba case came against a "backdrop of longstanding concerns" about police accountability, standards and confidence. The reform is part of a new package aimed at improving police accountability, and includes several measures proposed by the previous government in March. They include:

Popular Post urban.spaceman Posted 23 October 2024 Popular Post Posted 23 October 2024 I love how we're all so used to political scandals from the Tories that, now what they've gone, Labour doing something within the rules and reporting it correctly is now considered to be "sleaze". Just 4 months ago we had some Tory MPs betting on the date of election based on insider information from within No. 10, and another sharing his government colleagues phone numbers to someone he'd met on Grindr under the threat of them sharing pictures of his cock. The best thing they can up with is "PM accepted a free ticket to see a popular music act, who was then the victim of an attempted terrorist attack elsewhere, and when the same act - whose shows earlier in the year had brought in millions to the UK economy - asked for better protection in the light of said terror attack and far right riots in the UK, the UK government happily obliged" We need a better class of media in this country. The current lot are still drunk on 14 years of corruption - Laura K "accidentally" sent a former Tory Prime Minister her questions ahead of an interview for his book of lies before grilling a Labour minister about a tweet and lying brazenly to her viewers about it being from 2 years ago and in different context, while Kay Burley was tweeting Mills and Boon style tweets about a different Tory PM as if he hadn't called a snap referendum and left us in the shit for a generation OR been personally involved in the Greensill scandal that hasn't been covered by the media for years. We deserve better. 10 2 1

If someone is viewing the matter objectively, that shouldn't be here or there anyway. It's a ridiculous irrational double standard fallacy borne by big sections of the press and social media that Labour have to be a lot cleaner than the Tories to get the same respect (that even Labour itself appear to have to have bought into for the sake of political expediency), and it should be challenged and rejected whenever it is stated. 1

If you are viewing it objectively, then political colours should have no dog in this fight, as the notion that political bias is consciously or unconsciously purchased by favours of any magnitude cannot (and must not) not be disregarded in favour of political point scoring. Non-partisan decisions are just not possible in a world where gifts form some sort of allowed valueless currency.

Corruption is a simple fact, but the more it's accepted, the more it grows.
