Yet in convinced there's an appetite for a cabaret/club scene. I've seen a couple restaurants that seem to have an act on tonight (Nye).

Problem is, as you say, the rent + rates + utilities.+ 2x  chefs at 45k a year + cost of foodstuffs and brewery drinks + fixtures fittings + entertainment + service staff. And only viable three nights a week max. Impossible.

Great shame. I remember how much I enjoyed them. Of course it was a treat rather than a regular night out which is also part of the problem that you list. Much easier and cheaper to cram a load of people into a space and have a DJ. But hardly sophisticated entertainment

Traditional nightlife is declining around the world, not just a London thing - article on FT about it today. Subscribe to read

The best thing about London is it constantly evolves, like NYC. People are more concerned about health and aren't as rich and frivolous with their cash as the boomers were. I have no need to get trollied in MoS or fabric until 6am when there are so many other options for entertainment.

That's true, but he infamously appointed a very well paid 'nightlife czar' who seems totally useless. If what you say is true, then it's at best a pointless appointment and a waste of money.

London just feels so much worse than comparative cities in Europe for nightlife. Even in the early 2010s you'd get young adults, students etc out drinking in central London but I hardly see any now, just groups of bubbly ladies from Leeds getting ripped off by those hellish rickshaws blaring out Mariah Carey. When I go to Paris or Madrid or pretty much any big city in Europe I see way more twentysomethings in the centre until the early hours of the morning. That is unfortunately partially down to our culture though not the Mayor of London.

As I am sure you well know,  the only part of the criminal justice system the major has any control over is police and even there he shares responsibility with the Home Secretary,  so struggling to see how you can say he his responsible for overseeing the increase in  crime,  which of course we have seen across the country.

Hardly something worth rewarding for then is it.

Possibly. Like you I only have my own anecdotes but when I moved there in 2011 central was exactly the same. Dumb and naive weekenders in those stupid rickshaws. Much like Amsterdam in those area near the main train station
European culture is totally different, they can handle partying until the early hours. Our rounds-based pint of lager drinking pub culture isn’t built for that

I think I'm very liberally using the word 'central'. Even parts like Shoreditch now seem to be cleansed of most of its young and not-so-rich, or maybe I'm just not getting invited to the right places.

Khan's a lightning rod for wrong 'uns. No explanation needed.

Knife crime "ballooned"? Blame the last government.

Said wrong 'uns like to point out problems, but as demonstrated time and again they *never* have solutions. Actual solutions are not compatible with their champions' mission to reduce taxes for the richest!

So true. My local ex-MP got a knighthood just for supporting Teresa May's govt during the period after Brexit and helping push through votes.

Roland Rudd got a very nice reward for supporting Bliar and Brown during their periods too. Jeff Archer got the same for supporting the end of the Thatcher period and grey Major's reign.

All snouts in the trough to fulfill their own vein legacies.

So WWE moved to Netflix today.

Including all of the Chris Benoit footage that had been removed!

I’m surprised at that.

And exactly the same might be said of his burgeoning (and only just beginning) interference in the UK political process.

It will only end horribly. For the UK, Germany, the US, and the entire human species.

Western democracies need to find a way to claw back the wealth that has been perversely accumulated by billionaires. Nothing against people get rich but billionaires have too much power and megalomaniac narcissists like Musk will undoubtedly destroy democracy. I fear it is probably already too late, they are just too powerful to be brought under any kind of democratic control.

Quite apart from the moral complications, wealth disparity of the degree we're seeing today is simply incompatible with civilisational survival in the future.

The very best case scenario would be The Expanse where even the oxygen you breathe comes at a price. The worst is...well, that's been discussed before.

Something has to change or events far bigger than our species will take it out of our hands.

The suspect accused of driving a truck through a crowd on Bourbon street in New Orleans, killing 10 people and injuring at least 36, has been identified as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar, according to two federal officials who spoke to BBC's US partner, CBS News.

The FBI confirmed earlier today the incident is being treated as an "act of terrorism" and the perpetrator was killed after the attack.

Well, shit. Another death-worshipping fascist gets his moment in the sun at the worst possible time.

And a US citizen and 10 year army veteran who turned that way too, apparently.
