Yep very true and story of our season. The Cifuentes system just leaves the Wingers isolated and allows teams to double / triple up on them which is criminal considering the options we have on the wings (looking at their performances last time we were in this League and the potential of Monga).

Under Maresca we had two no 8’s inside them as an option to pass to. Now the only option is to beat 2 or three men. As Wilder intimated, mark our wingers and you beat Leicester.

Instead of two high 8s we play a luxury no 10 who apart from the odd goal has been anonymous. They been help no castigation. Marti out! Like the last two they say they’ll play like Maresca but none have.

Hes literally a school kid.

He has years of development ahead of him

Wish people would remember this!

Thought he was one of the bright parts of last night, final ball let him down a few times but he looks so comfortable on the ball and I wouldn't want to train that out of him. Hopefully he gets a chance to have a run of starts and tighten some of that end product up. No real issues with his performance last night overall though.

Just remembered him jumping backwards into their defender and winning a free kick lol

Couldn't believe it was given.

That was straight out of the Maddison playbook. Throw your legs at the player and fall over.

a couple of times he sat his full back on his arse and stood a decent ball up to the back post not dissimilar to the ball for the winner, if anything we didn't give him enough chances to do that, by the time the one man tempo killer Hamza would pass him the ball all space and speed in phase of play was gone and he had little option but to go back, when we missed Hamza out he attacked the full back.

You don’t want to slate him because he is 16 , clearly got huge talent but against west Brom Monga was really frustrating for me I wanted him off at half time, he possess sublime skill  but also messes up the simple stuff and keeps losing the ball and we then we are getting turned over in transition , this is a tough quick physical league id keep him as an Impact sub for now. but I think he will come good.

He's a 16 year old kid with natural flair who needs a decent coach to develop him into a professional footballer, but he's having to try and wing it with a pub team manager.

It’s a shame we probably won’t be able to see him progress here further than the end of the season.

We should be doing everything possible to make sure we build the team around James and players like Monga, Nelson, Page etc coming through it's the only way we are going to create some kind of new culture at the club, even players like Skipp who is a work horse will be a valuable squad member to have.

If we can keep Marti till the end of the season all he has to do is keep us up then find a better manager and build in the summer, we clearly don't have funds available to swap managers again this season anyway imo never mind rebuilding.

Hes literally a boy playing against fully grown highly physical men. He has the skill and ability to beat his man but taking on multiple is hard.

Hes adapting but also playing in a side struggling with form and confidence and being looked at to be one of the main creative outlets.

To be fair to him, the fact were expecting anything from him shows the shit situation were in. We know hes going to be quality but we need to lower the expectations on him in difficult circumstances for a seasoned professional, nevermind a boy that only finished high school in the summer.

He's very young and still learning but i fear we won't see the best version of him (even the 16 year old best version of him) because our wingers are completely stifled by a shit manager. Even Fatawu, who is a fantastic player, has looked awful for large parts of the season but has fortunately managed to come up with magic every so often like last night. Mavididi and Fatawu were great in this league under Enzo but both look a shadow of what they were that season, so I think its unfair to have too much criticism of Monga, when its probably not really his fault that hes not looked like the world beater we thought he would be. Oh and the fact he's only 16.

What is impressive is hes composure. He doesn't seem overly fazed or emotional, unlike Adbul where it can get the better of him. I think that's a good trait for Monga to have.

You could blame the manager for the wingers performances but we don't have a striker who defenders are worried about like previously Vardy would create a lot of space for them just because of how dangerous he was.

We also don't have very good full backs who can defend and get forward at the same time.

That's why they look so isolated or keep getting caught out as they have to try and take on 2 or 3 players and produce something at the end of it, no overlaps as Thomas, Choudary and Ricardo are not good enough and Ayew chugging around up front

Yeh agree with both of those points but I still feel Martis tactics, or lack of, doesn't help them. Shame Ricardo isn't the player he was, as he would be a good overlapping outlet for Fatawu but his legs have gone. We talk about how poor our striker options are but arguably, our full back options are just as hideous.

Possibly but I think most managers would have the same problem with the current options.

That's why we always look better with Daka in the team as he at least runs and creates space.

This is why I wasn't against the idea of Antonio (before he got injured) as he may not have scored a load of goals but his experience and movement would have given opposition defenders something to think about and potentially free up a bit more space for the wingers. Most teams known they can double or triple up on our wingers as out strikers offer no threat at all.
