Teams defend as a unit, and that's where our problems are. Our CBs, FBs and Gk are all shit. It's not one player, it's all five of them.

So I’m looking for a better standard of debate?

If I see a claim that is wild, I am minded to call it out - such as the recently offered “try Skipp at left back” opinion.

If you’re going to make a contribution to a public forum; at least put some thought into it!

Did skipp once play at right back against us at Wembley ??

I remember them  playing some kid there and thinking surely that’s a weakness

Could have dreamt it

actually I can see Jennifer Anniston at centre back ……..

All this waffle.

Your example doesn’t carry weight because you’re quoting brands that you will have prior awareness of - you have additional knowledge to make an informed choice on a preference and could state detailed reasoning for that choice without direct experience.

Now you could, in theory, do that with the Souttar / Lascelles claim; “I’ve watched them play for Newcastle / Stoke respectively and think they’re styles of defending and skill sets would be well suited as a partnership.”

But the reality is, there was no evidence from the OP for the stated preference other than; they’re not the players currently playing there - which brings us to a Schrödinger’s cat style of desired team selection when a team or player is not performing - see the Thomas / Kristensen (or Skipp 😏) at left back debate and the “should Wink’s play?” for further examples of this.

Now that sort of debate is quite empty; it offers little value within the context of a public forum; so why not question it?

You are completely 100% correct. Questioning things is good. Like you questioned him and then I questioned you. Thank you for agreeing.

All I know is that as an objective observer I read your post with less 👏 and more 🙄. Just seems a bit harsh on the guy when I think we all know what he meant.

You called my post waffle and then answered your own question and agreed with the point I was making. Yes Souttar and Lascelles have played football before. They were not just created and beamed into the squad. They are not unknown entities. We may have opinions on them as footballers. These opinions may be poorly researched, based on very little. But they’re not insane. It just felt a little harsh on the guy that’s all. You are clearly very intelligent and very good at debating and well done to you on that. We all applaud you. But honestly (and I may be wrong because this is my opinion) I don’t think many people reading the offending post from the other guy were thinking what you were thinking. It just read as a bit needlessly obtuse to dive into semantics so heavily. Also, can you explain how it is a “Shrödinger’s Cat” team selection? Seems a poorly used analogy to me?

This player (cat) is the better player to pick because we don’t know whether they’re bad (dead) or not, because we’ve not seen them in the team (box).

Simple enough.

Thanks, fairly simple, I understand it now. Chemistry was never my strong point. I suppose under those rules every single transfer ever is a Schrödingers cat transfer?

Leicester definitely need at least one experienced centre back playing every week. With the full backs conceding so many crosses I’m tempted to try Jakub again simply because he tries to gather more of them. With his confidence being low Boro away might not be the best time.

Do we have another Jakob, surely you don’t mean the one who is absolutely terrible.

Hmmm.... AFAICS what you're describing is a 'grass is greener' form of cognitive bias in the case of Skipp at left back, or an 'unrecency' bias for Kristiansen playing there.

To fit Schrödinger's analogy, your;

       "This player is the better player to pick... because we’ve not seen them in the team"

should be;

       "This player is simultaneously a better and worse player to pick... and we absolutely cannot tell which until we see them in the team".

...which is not a particularly strong counter to someone proposing Skipp at left back.

That said, the dead/alive cat thought experiment was designed to highlight what Schrödinger saw as the absurdity of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics, so it's possible he would have had some strong thoughts about playing Kristiansen there.

Nah, we just go off the players YouTube video to make an assessment… until reality hits.

Okoli and kristiansen both played in Serie A and did well. I have no idea how that league is worse than the championship but it must be. Kristiansen finished in the top 4 ffs

That’s £20 million too much

We spent over £76m and got Kristiansen, Souttar, Coulibaly, Coady, Vestergaard and Faes

Tell me about how mean the Premier League are by stopping us from spending. They really were worried we would disrupt the big 6.

Given our transfer record over the last 5 years they were probably just trying to stop us embarrassing ourselves

We would concede a lot of goals from counter attacks, she can't handle the situation when it's on a break...

Brain dead from him. Can't even blame the head injury because he does this shit week in, week out.

Hopefully someone can blame that so they hook him. Hope he never plays for us again.
