Steve Cooper Post Match vs Man Utd

Cooper on game

"It’s never a good scoreline you want to be on the end of. The reality, as simple as it sounds, for United’s goals, there were two shots from outside the box. There's plenty to talk around the quality, but we didn’t get enough pressure on the ball for the cross and the first contact for the second goal. Third goal phase of play started from our corner.

"As much as we got in good positions we never looked like the threat that we’re capable of. We fell short in and around both boxes. I felt the game was largely even in general play. We had some good phases and spells in the game. As a team around both boxes we’ve not been what we wanted to be."

Goals coming from right side?

"I’ll have to look at the ins and outs of the goals in more detail. You look at the game in isolation but we have to look at bigger picture stuff as well. Regardless of which side we haven’t got to the ball when they’ve been in and around our box. Once again we leave here thinking there’s so much more we could have done in the game. Did it feel like a 3-0 loss, no. But it was because we didn’t do enough."

First time not scoring. Why?

"There’s a frustration because we were in more than enough positions to cause a threat we just haven’t turned it into chances. It’s frustrating we didn’t hit those levels today."

Lack of threat because of Vardy's absence?

"It will always be, because he becomes alive in the box and he’s as good as it gets in terms of sniffing out a threat. It’s about the guys who played today and there was more than enough opportunities to cause damage but we didn’t turn good opportunities."

Fans' boos?

"I accept that it’s a 3-0 defeat you won’t get cheered off. No problem with any fan reaction, they’re entitled to do that. Always respect the commitment of a football supporter. I accept any situation and be motivated to get better and keep going with what we believe in. Got the break to work with the players that are with us and do some extra work off the pitch and get ready for when we return. Won’t be any days off for the staff."

He says the right things tbf. Doesn't change on the fact that he isn't good enough, unfortunately.

the usual non-sense then

as for goals from the right side, its been clear since the first game there is an issue there,

what we need is a new manager

I agree with his assessment too. Thing is, it's like me diagnosing the problem on my car is the clutch. But I dunno how to fix it.

We're all good at pointing out the blindingly sodding obvious. The issue is, it's his job to fix the deficiencies, and he doesn't have a clue how to.

The definition of rolling over and having your belly tickled, United were dog sh!t and somehow we contrived to be even worse!

We have zero identity as a team, we don’t soak up pressure and counter attack at pace, we don’t draw the press and play through lines, and we don’t have (enough) quality of individual players to rely on to produce game winning moments. I think I read someone else say that it feels like a team of players that met in the car park beforehand and were thrown together and that’s genuinely what it feels like. I have no ill feeling towards cooper at all, but quite simply put he has to go before it’s too late…

I’ve pondered whether I’d rather be Southampton who have a clear identity but less points, or us. I’m not sure.

But I’ve had enough of Cooper. I don’t know what he stands for, I don’t see what he adds and I’m getting bored of saying it. I drive around 3 hours for a home game, and for the first time I genuinely question whether I want to. Similarly we played in Manchester twice in the last 2 weeks - it’s not far for me. But I didn’t go to either - which is unheard of. So what I’m saying is that Cooper is slowly changing my relationship with this club. I watched today and thought we’d get pumped, but that was on the basis of United having their tails up and playing well. They didn’t have to get out of second gear. We all can see flaws - notably at full back - and yet he isn’t doing anything about it.

I thought this season would be difficult. But we’ve no points deduction now and we do have quality. It is the manager who is holding us back, and imo it’s getting worse as the season goes on.

I'd like to know what Cooper thought might happen after throwing a sub on in desperation at 86 mins when we're 3 -0 down!   We handed Man U that game on a plate and they didn't deserve it.    The play was untidy, careless and lackluster, the silent crowd said it all.

We just don't have a settled side each week. Different players in different positions means it's more than likely to go wrong. He just doesn't know his best side or where to play players. Too much chopping and changing

So you get someone in who does.

I agree.

Not one player, (Vardy aside for sentimental reasons) that I actually feel good about, or that will leave me with a sense of gratitude for what they have done for us.

Yep, I can just about count on one hand how many players I’d happily keep.

The majority of this squad make me feel nothing.

He was, but he's being hung out to dry because of the system Cooper is trying to play. It's just not working. Any player in that position would struggle.

With Ricardo out for four months, it's going to be JJ there for a lot longer.

Agreed, however, he's been absolutely woeful for a long time now.

His current performance level proceeds Cooper

Yep, totally forgettable. About six points better off than we should be. Bailed out in two games by red cards.

No wonder we are barely televised.

It'll be us or Wolves joining Southampton and Ipswich. Fair play to Ipswich on today though, I really thought we'd knocked the stuffing out of them last week so to respond with a result like that is impressive. Wolves we'll see if they can actually put any kind of run together. We're similar sides - just both lacking in identity or lots of quality.

We're very bland. Biggest also-rans in the league in 2024.

Lack of physically is really poor too, and should've been the first thing we went for in the summer. I know the delivery was shit but who in that team is going to win a header?

It’s been our problem for years. Especially up front

Not a chance it’s Wolves with Cunha in their side.

He’ll be saying the same bs in 2/4/6 etc weeks time with the excuses. It’s plain to see the outcome with him in charge. He will not turn it around, I do not understand what the club are waiting for? Puel and Rodgers were the same, well before they were given the tin tack. With Pearson, you could see some fight and determination, this guy, nothing.

My thoughts after our latest s**tshow!

Leadership - There is zero leadership being shown at any level of the club. From Top to Rudkin to Whelan to Cooper to every single player. Without strong leadership any company or organisation will fail.

King Power - This is a tricky one. Yes, I agree that Top might have lost some interest in us and would probably like to sell, but following everything that happened with Vichai, this has made it virtually impossible for him to do so. Instead, I think he’s chosen to distance himself and hand the reigns to Whelan and Rudkin who are not showing the leadership needed.

Cooper - For me it’s time for him to go. He might have been all we could attract when we faced a points deduction, but that no longer applies. We’ve seen enough now to know that we need somebody better. Better to act now rather than later when we might be in a worse position with fewer games left.

We simply have to find a way to survive this season and for me that means sacking Cooper now. Our playing squad has a severe lack of leaders, so I think we need a manager who can really drill some discipline and a clear and effective style of play into them.

Yes I think you're right. Those injuries killed his potential, which is unfortunate for JJ.

Cooper is adept at soundbites like this. Nothingism’s that appear to say lots but have very little meaning other than obvious statements whilst trying to put a positive spin on shit shows like this. Presumably he says similar things to the players which is why we continue to repeat the same under whelming performances week in week out.

He’d be better off moving to a social media post at the club where he could speak this well worded dialled in shite week in week out without the expectation it will motivate the players or the fans.
